J. Cole was in Texas with his crew working on this album when a SWAT team swatted the house. There’s a video to the song that shows the security footage of it. Since the people around him, all being white, saw these black guys who had money they sadly assumed they were selling drugs
The video for this song is SWAT breaking into his studio house, because the neighbors said they think he was selling drugs, because people were there at all hours of the day. The video is actually his surveillance cameras capturing the police, because it happened in real life.
What kills me is everybody points that out like they're a genius but never seem to notice that forbidden fruit is a sample of "electric relaxation" by A Tribe Called Quest
You guys are awesome because your perspectives come from a different place and your reactions come from a very different space in music. It’s genuine and just really cool
The words, "don't follow me", is referencing Trayvon Martin being followed and subsequently killed by George Zimmerman. I love you guys' reactions. I've subscribed and excited to see more. If you like J Cole, I'm certain you'll like Common. Check out "The People", it's a throwback classic.
Lived in Queens, NY tho to go to college. He says college was his way to go to NY and follow his rap dream. Nas is a big influence on him, and so is living in NY for almost 10 yrs. That's why he has an almost ny sound
03' Adolescence and Love Yourz are definitely two beautifully put together songs you should listen to! Btw you two should also check out his track 4 Your Eyez Only. It is honestly stunning.
This song is actually based on a real incident when he was recording his album, he was renting a house in a meanly white territory using it as a studio, when one day the neighbors called the police thinking he was a drug dealer because there were rich black people smoking weed outside his house. In the official music video on RUclips, you can see about 10 officers breaking and entering the house with assault rifles, and when they realize their mistake they start hitting the security cameras recording everything.
I just love how music brings people who seemingly have nothing common together. Here I am, a black woman from the South enjoying you all's reaction to one of my favorite artists. I like that you both are very open to music that expresses common pains and experiences within my community. Gained a new subscriber here! Excited to open my mind and tastes to other music genres as well!
I love how open you guys are to this type of music and how much you enjoy it even though it’s not something that you’d typically put into your playlists. You guys always understand the point to the song and what they’re rapping about. I love it. I’m definitely subbing.
I agree and I love Nas, but Cole's sound is very different which has mixed reactions as he is hated on heavily by a lot of hip hop fans and mumble rap fans. But Cole is just the guy, he can appeal to wide audiences which people forget
J. Cole - A Tale of 2 Citiez - Intro - January 28th Honestly your able to listen to that album front to back it is great an one of the few rap albums that can do that. Kendrick Lamar - i - Alright - Cartoons and cereal - untitled 02 - m.A.A.d city - Wesley's Theory ... think you guys would like this beat - King Kunta - These Walls ... and this beat as well . The whole DAMN. album of Kendrick Lamar as well - FEEL. -DUCKWORTH.
Your channel is super interesting to follow because it’s like two dudes who have no idea about the genre slowly beginning to understand and appreciate an art form quite different from metal. I appreciate how open minded you guys are makes me want to find a new genre to listen to, keep it up!
great video. also he’s from North Carolina. he went to college in New York and that’s where he stayed to get his name out there and progress as an artist
I’ve been binge watching you guys for a bit. I enjoy the fact that you don’t judge the song based on what the artist looks like, along with hearing everything in the song ; sound, lyrics, etc. keep it up guys got my sub
Yeah, there was a video of his house being raided.. Dope video.. Love the fact that you all are so conscious of the lyrics.. More then many hip hop fans!! Good stuff fellas!
Keep up the jcole guys, btw the 2014 forest hills drive album went platinum with no features, and he is dropping another album this friday, you guys might as well go on a cole marathon
Just subscribed because I’m a huge JCole fan!! He’s from Fayetteville North Carolina. His new album is amazing. I can recommend “Keven’s Heart”, “Brackets”, “once an addict”, “window pain” and “KOD” as some of my favorites off the new one!
Max Perez lol that is odd. This was what I read www.hotnewhiphop.com/j-cole-producer-elite-tells-the-story-of-neighbors-says-fan-theories-are-pretty-close-news.26188.html (back when I was stalking the 4yeo album lol).
I love you guys so much, as I predominantly listen to rap and hip-hop, I praise how open minded you guys are to this genre. It's cool to see people from other genres be able to appreciate hip-hop and rap so open mindedly. Keep going, love the videos. + 1 more sub for you guys for sure.
I love the channel and how you bring an unbiased look to all of the reactions. Seeing people who have relatively little knowledge or experience with hip hop love the genre is awesome. I would recommend lil Wayne, especially one of the songs off of his most recent Dedication 6 mixtape. He has to rap over other rappers beats due to legal trouble but he takes these bears and makes them his own. His wordplay and metaphors are insane, although being a mixtape he doesn't have much of a conscious focus other than flexing and showing off his talent. I recommend off of dedication six back to the 80's, five star, or bank account.
Hey you guys give really honest thurough reviews really enjoyed your views.. as a huge music fan myself I find it frustrating when people say they hate types of music without the effort for accepting that there might be artists within a genre that they could connect to.. I could probably chat with u guys for ages over a few pints lol keep up the good work.. subscribed 👍🏽👌🏾
He’s so relatable that’s why u always be interested in and u can see how he’s rapping about regular shit that we do not glorifying any lifestyle like most of the rappers
Damn y’all cranking out the vids, keep up the great work! I’m a Kendrick Lamar super fan and I think you two have listened too the wrong Kendrick songs. DNA is an absolute banger and a great song but not one if his best. Sing about me/I’m dying of thirst is one of my fav Kendrick tracks but you need to have listened to section 80 and hear it in the context of GKMC it get the full effect. I would recommend Hiiipower, m.A.A.d city, how much a dolla cost? The blacker the berry, wheosly’s theory, feel, or u just to name a few.
I hope you guys do 4 Your Eyes Only. Coles does a great way of opening a window for people to look through. Really allows people on the outside of street life to kinda understand some of the struggles and what someone has to go through when opportunities and resources are limited
Its how he delivers his rhymes and uses emphasis and timing to really drive things home and at the same time doesnt go over the top which draws your ears in
One thing I love about Cole is that you can listen to everything he has released throughout his career and see his style change. You can see how the experience of becoming rich and famous lead him to write music that is centered around fame and money. But in his more recent music, he expresses how he let the fame get to his head, but he is now using his music to open people's eyes.
Some beats that don’t take all the attention allow the listener to analyze the message, the lyrics. Lupe fiascos the master of that! I love this song and the reaction, + the channel
yesterday jcole released that hes bringing his album out on the 20th got to react to that
Fibre I was going to coment the same 🔥🔥😂
Soooooo excited!
Fibre fuck bro im so hyped
This friday??
The boi yes
J. Cole was in Texas with his crew working on this album when a SWAT team swatted the house. There’s a video to the song that shows the security footage of it. Since the people around him, all being white, saw these black guys who had money they sadly assumed they were selling drugs
north carolina *
Ryan McGonigle nah the point of the song is he wasn’t even home and his neighbors got the swat to bust down his house
Akshay Subramaniam wait so he was in Texas and they raided it when he wasn’t there ?
Carson Logue ya
The video for this song is SWAT breaking into his studio house, because the neighbors said they think he was selling drugs, because people were there at all hours of the day. The video is actually his surveillance cameras capturing the police, because it happened in real life.
Also, this beat is a Kendrick Lamar beat, reversed.
Not true at all. It's ATCQ's song Electric Relaxation reversed.
Jonathan maybe the same samples. Download the Forbidden Fruit instrumwntal , and reverse it.
Pretty sure forbidden fruit is actually neighbors reversed
Jonathan jcole even showed it live at alot of his shows, playing forbidden fruit, and pointing out that reversed it was "Neighbors"
Also by the way, the beat for “Neighbours” is j coles old song “Forbidden fruit” in reverse
God damn I would've never known
What kills me is everybody points that out like they're a genius but never seem to notice that forbidden fruit is a sample of "electric relaxation" by A Tribe Called Quest
Christopher Smith in forbidden fruit Cole even shouts tribe out. It’s pretty clear to any real hip hop fan that it’s a tribe sample.
Christopher Smith k cool
Woaat
J. Cole - Fire Squad & A tale of two cities

J.Cole 4 Your Eyez Only ( one of his best stories told )
I would have to say 03 adolescence is a great one too
Its bmanTHEGAME you’re out of pocket. You mentioned a SONG. Original person that commented mentioned his 4YEO album.

Ryan Matson the last track in that album is 4 your eyez only.
Ryan Matson dude
The words, "don't follow me", is referencing Trayvon Martin being followed and subsequently killed by George Zimmerman. I love you guys' reactions. I've subscribed and excited to see more. If you like J Cole, I'm certain you'll like Common. Check out "The People", it's a throwback classic.
Janean L. Watkins great suggestion. Either “the people” or “I used to love H.E.R.”
He explains it here in this video. m.ruclips.net/video/BbU8MaMN1xQ/видео.html

You guys actually give well thought-out reactions. Gonna be seeing more of you.

YESSSSS!!!!!!
That's a great one!
J Cole - Can I Holla at Ya... great song.. so personal, I choke up every time I hear it.
fudhujanta YES BRO!!!
The beat of “Neighbors” is actually the reverse beat of his 2013 song “Forbidden Fruit” so I hope you can check out that song too!
And immortal is the reverse of tale of two cities
03' Adolescence and Love Yourz are definitely two beautifully put together songs you should listen to!
Btw you two should also check out his track 4 Your Eyez Only. It is honestly stunning.
Ted Larsson adolescence for sure!

J Cole - Crooked Smile, very deep song
Nate Montana it is
J. Cole: "At 16 should have came with a coffin..."
Rock Reacts: "THAT'S GREAT!!"
This line is nasty cuz it got 2 meanings
What's the second meaning?
First is black Boys often die around 16
Whats second?
@@saile1011 16 bars in a verse, should've come with a coffin because he kills it

Do ”love yourz” another song by J.cole

This is a true story, while he was away, his house was raided by the police due to the neighbours.
Yep, and the official video for this song is the actual footage from his home security cameras.
He was in his house when it happened. He explained it at the concert I went to. He said he was high as shit when it happened.
Max Perez No he wasn't. Nobody was home, Elite said that. Plus, the concert I went to he never said he was there.
Golden Pineapple Thats odd. I have video with him saying he was high as shit in the house.
Max Perez lol that is odd. This was what I read www.hotnewhiphop.com/j-cole-producer-elite-tells-the-story-of-neighbors-says-fan-theories-are-pretty-close-news.26188.html (back when I was stalking the 4yeo album lol).
