At 4:00 You mentioned f26. I also designed f367 because I thought it was too busy. I think 367 might be better because it’s simpler. Thanks for the compliment :)

Hey, at least Minnesota has flag redesigns. A state-mandated Massachusetts commission has been working for almost THREE YEARS to create a new state flag, seal, and motto, and it just announced today that it’s disbanding with literally no concrete recommendations - except for recommending that a new commission be formed 😂
So for everyone wondering about the laser eyed shooting loon , its a reference to when new Zealand wanted a new flag and let the people submit designs , somebody made meme status when they designed a lazor shooting kiwi bird as a flag submission

I just don't think it's just a big thing that needs to be done right now. If forced to pick one I suppose the north star one. I don't really particularly like any of them though.
The beige flag with the tree and the blue star to the left is actually Maine's previous flag design from 1901. They are currently in the debate on whether to bring it back or replace the traditional.

I didn’t know duck duck goose was a thing until middle school when my grandparents from Kansas made fun of how we called it “duck duck grey duck”. It has always been grey duck.
@@nbkarkat”grey duck” is the literal translation from the either Swedish or Norwegian word for goose. So yes, it’s real, and I was shook when I found out other people say “goose” 😂
One of the redesigns that wasn't in the video was one that was pretty much the bisexual pride flag with the middle stripe changed to the Nordic cross (the off-centre cross that Scandinavian flags have, for those not in the flag sphere), and while I know it's not true, I find the idea that everyone in Minnesota is a bisexual Scandinavian hilarious.
The laser loons I believe are a reference to when New Zealand did something similar and had people submit their redesign of their flag and the most popular one was a Kiwi bird with lasers
Laser Loon is a reference to Laser Kiwi, a proposed flag redesign for New Zealand with a Kiwi shooting lasers from its eyes next to a feather. It was designed in microsoft paint. Laser Kiwi was not selected.
Scott’s opinions on the loon is so funny to me. My dad is a big bird guy and as a result I’ve always viewed them as very pretty and graceful birds. Hearing someone think they’re spooky is so wild. They can’t even walk! They’re super heavy birds and really can only fly and swim with ease, walking isn’t something they’re super great at lmao!
There's a whole thing in Utah with people trying to preserve the old flag. Preserve tradition! But that's not the original flag. There was a lady at Walmart asking for signatures. She was dumbfounded when we told her that the flag wasn't a flag but the state seal. "the new flag looks like a logo!" She cried. Yeah, that's the point. The old flag is also a logo... cause it's the state seal. A logo of sorts. The new flag is awesome and I'm excited for it to be completely implemented.
Explanation of Duck Duck Grey Duck: Duck Duck Grey Duck is the literal translation from the original Swedish. We're actually objectively correct. "Anka Anka Grå Anka" is literally "Duck Duck Grey Duck". Once it left the Swedish communities and spread across the States, it became Duck Duck Goose, eventually making its way back across the ocean to Sweden so they now also have the version Anka Anka Gås. Duck Duck Grey Duck is often played by using different colors, ie "green duck, turquoise duck, maroon duck, red duck, grey duck!" to help kids learn their colors. Kids naturally try to show off by learning more and more niche and complicated color names, so they're actively motivated to learn, all on their own volition. Since this game is typically played by little kids(usually ending before age 10), it's a useful learning game to teach kids colors and how to listen carefully.
Yes, that's how I learned it as a little kid. Unlike the rest of the country, you don't go around the circle with simply "duck" but instead choose a color of duck. It then becomes "Blue Duck, Red Duck, White Duck, Yellow Duck" etc. Then you do the big fake out by calling "GR___een Duck" instead of "Gray Duck." The kid that falls for the "GR__een" ruse (thinking it's going to be Gray) is out.
It's so fun to watch this as a Norwegian, like seeing the Scandinavian inspiered flags. And just now realizing that Uff da! Is a saying in Minnesota. That is sooooo Norwegian
Oh hello, you're basically Minnesota's parent 😭 Norwegian settlers are responsible for much of Minnesota's culture and population, including the way we say certain words lol (Norwegian-Minnesotan here representing o/) I also say Uffda on at least a daily basis and was delighted when I learned where it came from.
I first learned Duck Duck Goose, but moved to MN when I was young and lots of people were very aggressive at me about it....and then I googled it when I was in high school and the original is supposed to be "Duck Duck Gray Duck" a translation from the Swedish game "Anka Anka Grattanka" (spelled differently depending on source)
As a Minnesotan, I was nearly an adult when I found out that we are actually the only people in the US who say Grey Duck. But I very proudly continue saying it!
Both Utah’s flags have the beehive because it’s the beehive state. The reason is because the Mormon settlers were busy like bees “building nests” temples, rebuilding after persecution etc
3:03 is absolutely GORGEOUS. God I hope they pick that one, honestly a lot of them are freakin beautiful. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that states are finally updating bad/underwhelming designs. States deserve symbols that inspire their residents and can stand toe to toe with national banners. It would be cool if they used the Viking colors, purple is 100% underrepresented in flags. But also Scandinavian/Nordic crosses should be used as it’s kind of a theme for the Midwest as a whole based on migration and history. 16:47 Nevermind… new front runner. What a slam dunk of a design. That's how you get people to really feel like the state is their land. I would love to see more states do this (not Maryland or New Mexico though). Also, Utah, great job.
Quick correction from a Minnesotan: it’s called the ‘north star’ state because it’s the farthest north mainland state. Bit of misnomer since it actually has nothing to do with stars 2:05

But that’s probably because I grew up with more people of Finnish and Italian heritage, not so much German. I grew up eating porketta and kropsua and pasties (because mining was big where I’m from).
It does sound good though, I’ll have to try that soup out sometime.

I believe the laser loon is because of the laser kiwi from the New Zealand flag submissions
I'm loving this second channel content

The Laser Loon is a reference to the Laser Kiwi, that was a popular submission for the new flag of New Zealand.
I'm in Montana and we recently got our six days of Autumn here, so beautiful. Oh well, time for winter!
