Wow I remember seeing this exact video back in 2007/2008 and loving this song 😅 how time flies. I'll always love this era of the Killers along with Sam's Town and Day & Age.
The great thing of the killers is the diversity of styles and music they create. They cannot get it wrong. They are are just amazing! Very few groups can do this...
'There's no way on earth I could ever pretend to know what it must actually feel to suffer such a thing, and I wouldn't presume to appropriate any other individual's feelings for a song' -Brandon. I love this song. However this is fact, and the reason this song was never released is of exactly this reason.
I thought it was appropriate for them to release this too until someone mentioned that it could come on the radio at any time, so now I understand more why they didn't release this.. That would make her family scared to turn the radio on :-(
i used to be really into the killers (not so much any more) up until the release of sam's town, this was always one of my favourite tracks and i really wanted a studio version of it to be released. still would like it really, although it'll never happen.
I did some research and found out some more about this song: Made when they were touring in Scotland and heard about a girl who went missing and made this song about it. They didn't realise it as some people in Scotland had a problem with the subject of the song... Shame it's so good
Musically, this is one of the best. Unfortunately, because of murderous lyrics this song never got to be on the album or the single. When I just heard this song for the first time and was listening just to the music and feeling the vibe and wasn't paying attention to the lyrics. I thought it was about guys desperation to find a girl. ''Where Is She?''
It was because it was in reference to an actual murder, not the fact the song is about murder. Jenny and Midnight Show are songs about murder that made the album.
10199ULTRAMATIC It is still about the murder of jennifer levin I beleive as it was Robert Chambers (who the songs point of view would be from if it is about that murder,) said as his reason why he wouldn't have killed her was because "Jenny was a friend of mine"
i know what you mean. at first i thought that it was just a song, or whatever. but some of the lyrics...i could see how they could really upset her parents. but i do LOVE this song.
Human is the most clever song lyrically I have ever heard, its calling people fake without basically everyone not realising. Dancer also meaning being a follower, not in control of their decisions, brilliant.
It's one of the last songs they wrote during their Hot Fuss days, the last I believe is All The Pretty Faces which is actually a bonus track for their second album Sam's Town (they played it at Glastonbury 2005)
I agree too. It is like artists have to lower their quality and originality just to make everyone like them. There used to be a kind of crudeness and sincerity in Brandon's lyrics, now they are dumb. Last week I went to their concert, I am glad I didn't have to pay anything. Back in 2006 I waited 4 hours outside the arena just to be front row-center: TOTALLY WORTH IT! this and 'replaceable' are my favorite killers songs
Your best bet is downloading it on Limewire or something, that's where I got it. Due to the controversy the song raised(that is, it being about the murder of Jodi Jones, and her parents being upset about the song), there will never be an official version of this song, but you can still find this live version to download in a few places. Just keep an eye out on Limewire, or some other program.
Actually, the song has gone by both names and has never been put on any Killers compliation, including Sawdust. When I heard that they were releasing Sawdust, I really hoped that they would put recorded versions of especially this and of All the Pretty Faces. This has always been hands down my favorite unreleased Killers track.
Mmm, actually what Brandon said about Human was, that he had received the quote, "Are we Human, or are we Dancers" from a fellow artist. The artist had said; "We are raising a generation of dancers." & that's where the line, was "conceived"
This came out prior to Sam's Town & Sawdust, during their Hot Fuss tour. I believe the mom contacted the Killers first and requested them not to profit from it. I recall Brandon feeling so overcome by guilty that he agreed and has felt sorry ever since.
I'm with you here - I did a search for this after reading it was about a 13 year old girl who was murdered - and coincidentally she had gone to their concerts in the past. But I'd never heard it before and thought I knew all their songs
Yeah I completely agree with you there :) At least it wasn't released out of respect to Jodi's parents but as you say it does seem too good not to be released
terrific song . . . brandon's vocals sound amazingly raw here. i'm a bit glad they didn't release this to the public on a record; it's kind of a gem now, i think. ; )
If this song is cleaned up (might be the recording) this will be a great song for their third album... (Sawdust was a compilation album) Can't wait till later this year when it comes out
I love this song SOOOO much! I listen to it quite frequently. The lyrics i think can apply to any poor girl who's been with an A-Hole of a boy friend :( Women are beautiful and should be treated SPEACIAL :( :) Have a good day!
There is'nt anything else by The Killers except Hot Fuss Special Edition, and the 2 Christmas singles. Oh and the 3 re-mixes of Sam's Town that was released between Sam's Town and Sawdust but all 3 of those ended up on Sawdust.
This song is about Jodie Jones, the little girl who was murdered in Scotland, in her mother's point of view. But The Killers didn't ask permission to write and record this song, so there was a public outrage and they were forced to get rid of it. You won't find it on any album, I don't think. It's a brilliant song though!
the song is about a girl who was murdered by her boyfriend in Scotland her name was Jodi Jones. If you look up the Murder of Jodi Jones it will tell you everything.
yeah! I read it 2! I think that they didn't had that intention... oh well... I think that that's the main reason why they don't play this song live anymore... (I think... maybe I'm wrong...)
@cookiecarooi It isnt from a album as it is about real events the family of the girl didnt want the song published and what not, so now they only preform it live
Hey I don't like that he wrote a song from the perspective of a mom who lost her 14 year old daughter in a horrible murder? Like that's a disgusting thing to do. You're all fans so you don't want to see how awful that is, but it really is guys
Matt T It’s not from the perspective of the mother. How would you explain the lyric, “Your mother looked scared, but she didn’t cry.” I doubt she became a caveman and started referring to herself in the third person. It’s written in the perspective of a lover or boyfriend, I’d say.
Also, the lyric, “They knocked on your door, and then they went away.” Unless the 14 year old is the owner of the house, it hardly suggests it’s from the perspective of the mother. I do agree it wasn’t the best song to write for it, but it certainly isn’t disgusting, and it’s misguided to try to shame fans of the song or the band for it.
@Atexbigs05 it isn't on any of thier albums, it was to "controversial" because brandon wrote it about some girl who got killed. people were mad about it. i think they should of released it anyway.
because its about some girl in scotland who got murderd and the parents thanked the killers for writing it but said they wouldnt like it released officialy
@guitarbeatles No, if you did your research you would know that Brandon Flowers [The Killers frontman] released a statement on The Killers official site saying that he was saying dancer. And I'm on my knee's looking for the ANSWER, are we human or are we DANCER, do you see how the two words rhyme?
Been listening to this since the mid 2000’s. I’ve gained so much and lost so much at the same time. I’ll keep listening forever.. still in 2024
Wow I remember seeing this exact video back in 2007/2008 and loving this song 😅 how time flies. I'll always love this era of the Killers along with Sam's Town and Day & Age.
Absolute banger. One of my favourites.
Hot Fuss material for sure! Classic lyrics from the killers, too bad Brandon doesn't like this style anymore haha
Alec Montiel actually sam's town era
Mobile Band no this is hot fuss era
Teddy Blair The Killers biography says otherwise
Mobile Band they have a bio? ive been listening to the band since 2004 and i remember this song from 2005/6
Teddy Blair yup written by Mark Beaumont
Its about Jodi Jones. Thats why it was never released because the family told them not to. Brandon being the nice guy he is obliged.
I miss the "Hot Fuss Sound" for me it will always be the best Killers album.
ya gotta be kidding me. Trying to listen to every one of their songs is an endless feat!
I thought it was appropriate for them to release this too until someone mentioned that it could come on the radio at any time, so now I understand more why they didn't release this.. That would make her family scared to turn the radio on :-(
i used to be really into the killers (not so much any more) up until the release of sam's town, this was always one of my favourite tracks and i really wanted a studio version of it to be released. still would like it really, although it'll never happen.
love this song
one of their best
this and tidalwave
I did some research and found out some more about this song:
Made when they were touring in Scotland and heard about a girl who went missing and made this song about it.
They didn't realise it as some people in Scotland had a problem with the subject of the song...
Shame it's so good
RIP Jodi Jones
Justice was done.that monster is banged up where he belongs.
Musically, this is one of the best. Unfortunately, because of murderous lyrics this song never got to be on the album or the single.
When I just heard this song for the first time and was listening just to the music and feeling the vibe and wasn't paying attention to the lyrics.

It was because it was in reference to an actual murder, not the fact the song is about murder. Jenny and Midnight Show are songs about murder that made the album.
+Fo Sho No Jenny was a friend of mine is about the murder of Jennifer Levin
DaDonkey Aviation This one was more relevant one. She was a Killers fan that actually went missing and turned out to have been murdered.
+DaDonkey Aviation lol no it was not
10199ULTRAMATIC It is still about the murder of jennifer levin I beleive as it was Robert Chambers (who the songs point of view would be from if it is about that murder,) said as his reason why he wouldn't have killed her was because "Jenny was a friend of mine"
This is such a brilliant song. By any standards. Obviously, a very dark back story, such an (understandable) shame it was never released as a single.
This song is so freaking banging. Brilliance.
i always get an eery feeling when i listen to this song...
Because he wrote it about an actual freaking murder
i know what you mean. at first i thought that it was just a song, or whatever. but some of the lyrics...i could see how they could really upset her parents.
but i do LOVE this song.
The picture at 1:03 is ADORIBLE!
Great song too.
Human is the most clever song lyrically I have ever heard, its calling people fake without basically everyone not realising.
Dancer also meaning being a follower, not in control of their decisions, brilliant.
Wow this song is fantastic, one of their best :)
Similar in theme to Jenny Was a Friend of Mine + the rest of the trilogy
It's one of the last songs they wrote during their Hot Fuss days, the last I believe is All The Pretty Faces which is actually a bonus track for their second album Sam's Town (they played it at Glastonbury 2005)
I agree too.
It is like artists have to lower their quality and originality just to make everyone like them. There used to be a kind of crudeness and sincerity in Brandon's lyrics, now they are dumb.

this and 'replaceable' are my favorite killers songs

Murder! I've never heard this before, but I've heard of it! It's like a myth!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
This is actually pretty good here.
Totally forgot about this song. So good. Based on a real murder if I remember correctly.
Yeah, about a killers fan from from scotland who went missing was found dead, and wasn't released as her parent didn't want it to be
Loved this song for many many years.
Actually, the song has gone by both names and has never been put on any Killers compliation, including Sawdust. When I heard that they were releasing Sawdust, I really hoped that they would put recorded versions of especially this and of All the Pretty Faces. This has always been hands down my favorite unreleased Killers track.

It was Hunter S Thompson who said it.
I don't deny but I can't live without my mother who dancing to this song while I laugh to the roads color #truthinbreasts
i LOVE this song, i really wish it were on itunes
They need to add it on there next album
Amazing band, amazing song
You can really tell his Morrissey influence in this.
1:01
And Interpol.
This came out prior to Sam's Town & Sawdust, during their Hot Fuss tour. I believe the mom contacted the Killers first and requested them not to profit from it. I recall Brandon feeling so overcome by guilty that he agreed and has felt sorry ever since.

scrumptious 0:35
the songs is amazing, also!
I really like this! they could have cleaned it up and added it to Hot Fuss to go with Jenny
Emma Dryden, this was based off of a real murder of their fan, the parents of said fan asked them not to release the song.
Lovely song!!!!!!!!.
It's such a shame that they got so pissed about this song. It's beautiful & Brandon would've never done any disrespectful.
That bass.....
terrific song . . . brandon's vocals sound amazingly raw here. i'm a bit glad they didn't release this to the public on a record; it's kind of a gem now, i think. ; )
i like this song.
If this song is cleaned up (might be the recording) this will be a great song for their third album...
(Sawdust was a compilation album)
Can't wait till later this year when it comes out
I live just outside the town where the murder happened. On a positive note, this is a good song.
Talent is unfathnoable
Love this track! And yes,Human is a very good song as well and defiantly means more than most people would think. If you'd just listen you can feel it.
Look at those youngsters! Time flies. Was the girl found? A song about a missing girl, keeping the case from being forgotten isn't a bad thing.
Yeah! He's such a very talented guy.
this should've been on Sawdust.. beautiful song
I love this song SOOOO much! I listen to it quite frequently. The lyrics i think can apply to any poor girl who's been with an A-Hole of a boy friend :( Women are beautiful and should be treated SPEACIAL :( :) Have a good day!
Brand has great personal style!
What a tune
Great song.
There is'nt anything else by The Killers except Hot Fuss Special Edition, and the 2 Christmas singles. Oh and the 3 re-mixes of Sam's Town that was released between Sam's Town and Sawdust but all 3 of those ended up on Sawdust.
absolute bop

I wish they would release this.
Didn't think that way but, actualy, you're right. It is
only gotta wait till late august
This song is about Jodie Jones, the little girl who was murdered in Scotland, in her mother's point of view. In an interview, Brandon talks about how in this song they sing in the perspective of Jodi's mom
the song is about a girl who was murdered by her boyfriend in Scotland her name was Jodi Jones. If you look up the Murder of Jodi Jones it will tell you everything.
It was murder.
It happened in the town i live in, it's werid that the killers wrote song about it but i love it.
This song rocks so bad! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAAAAT
@ethan8220 You´re right! And that´s also a reason for loving them. It´s not bla bla bla, the songs have background.
yeah! I read it 2! I think that they didn't had that intention... oh well... I think that that's the main reason why they don't play this song live anymore... (I think... maybe I'm wrong...)
Yes she is think the baby is due sometime in July. Wonder if there will b any photos!!!
@cookiecarooi It isnt from a album as it is about real events the family of the girl didnt want the song published and what not,
so now they only preform it live
These songs are fucking gems!
the new album is called day and age.
Hey I don't like that he wrote a song from the perspective of a mom who lost her 14 year old daughter in a horrible murder? Like that's a disgusting thing to do. You're all fans so you don't want to see how awful that is, but it really is guys

Bro it’s art. You need to chill the fuck out.
brandons vocal is so sick good
Its called soft surrender in some places, you can get it off itunes..
its a song involving the murderer, the neighbor and the mother of the victim.
good song thou!!!!
yess please help ! i def. love this song
gr8 song very sad tho
@Atexbigs05 it isn't on any of thier albums, it was to "controversial" because brandon wrote it about some girl who got killed. people were mad about it. i think they should of released it anyway.

badass indie!
yeah i think it is too

damm i cant find this song....i love it
I fucking love this song and i love the guitar solo at the begging. Why isn't this out on a CD?.
