E3 was good but it was partly because of how many target renders developers/publishers were doing. The reason Ubisoft got caught out "downgrading" games. Can't do it these days, takes too much away from the budget of already mega expensive game productions. So reveals are more cautious and timed with development milestones.

Same. The rush to know everything about a game, it feels like a missed opportunity to surprise us. Six months is a long time, a title could be delayed, given to another dev, or might have been scrapped remade But to keep it fresh on an audience's mind. Have to do something
I hate how the "Big show" is the game awards, I don't really particularly want to watch game awards, all the celebs make me cringe. I'm just here for the announcements. Sounds to me they should be making the big show summer game fest and the game awards the secondary show.
100%. The Game Awards and geoff keighley himself are a massive plague in the industry that needs to go away. The whole focus on the celebrities, advertising, product placements, long shows with a ton of time running, but not much focused on actual games and developers and actors. I know people loves Geoff(For some reason i don't understand), but this shows are terrible for the audiences, for the developers, people who make games, voice actors, directors. We need a REAL GAME AWARDS. Focusing on the actual games, actual people behind the games, the story of the games instead of use them as a excuse to make a show to do product placements and ads of movies, celebrities, movie actors and make use of 70% of the shows on ego stroking any other industry that isn't gaming

Everyone knows everything about every single game that is coming out even the mechanics and story plot points. The best thing i ever did was stop following gaming news places and social media
The most powerful part about E3 is that people were FIGHTING to be the talk of the town which made them pull out all the stops. Now they are hoping folks tune into their own individual show rather than competing. It tones down what the publishers are ok leaking out (they know buzz will get people interesting) and pull for their devs to have something to show when they are competing...Now they take things more easy since they're just showing off to their already earned fans rather than fighting for new ones.
Leaks rob the showcases of the shock of new games coming. I think what matty was saying is, when he went to E3, it wasnt just about the games but the experience of going to E3. Being there with other gamers, being in the same room as game devs. Hopefully im not putting words in your mouth matt. Just my thoughts
Yes, I should've elaborated a bit more. The opportunity to go hands on with tons of games early is obviously amazing, but it served as a center point to meet some of your gaming idols.
I think the real problem is that in the past we looked foward to any thing new and exciting vs today when consumers are just looking for those brands they like.
People saw leaked info on games and rumors from social media > get hyped because one of the leaked game is their favourite game > see the game showcase > only one or two game from leaked is shown > get mad and cursed the game company about the showcase because their favorite game doesn't appear on the showcase > back to the first one.
6:17 I did the same thing Matty. There was definitely a sacred gaming ritual quality to gathering your gaming buds and watching E3. I do the same for the Game Awards now but most people don't watch the show for the awards so it's not the same.
for me the problem with a lot of these showcases is we keep seeing games in the current year that are 3 or 4 years out. i don't care about the games coming out in 2026 or 2027, which is why i'm glad jeff said that there won't be any this time around. don't release a trailer for a game unless you have a set release date that should be a rule imo.
I missed E3 The summer showcase just not the same. The 3 major consoles just do their own thing now. I wish they could come together And just do one big showcase every summer 😂
I want to see a big glossy stage with a middle aged exec and an auditorium full of cheers for even the most uninspiring announcements it was so much more fun
I'm really glad I am just not on social media anymore. I hear nothing about the links so I can just go into show cases and always be surprise what shows up. I might be the only that does that though.
Hype has killed everything in entertainment and gaming is no exception. I think for me at least, hype has overstimulated my enjoyment for gaming. To the point that even the good to great games I’ve played recently aren’t fulfilling. It’s weird out here.
One other point that makes me less excited is that I've been burned too many times by hyped games not delivering on the hype. I'm just more reserved now and manage my expectations, just letting the final game speak for itself.
Its been a huge mistake decentralizing the game showcases. With E3 it was a multi-day event where developers and/or publishers that you might not care about would get your attention merely by being part of the same event as developers/publishers you did care about.
I hate how things are now. Xbox is the only one that keeps the old tradition alive of showing many big things in their showcase. The rest just drip feed things enough for people not to go insane. I would love to go back to E3 week with big announcements it was like a second Christmas.
I think people get too invested in the showcases. They dont really make any promises of huge games coming out, i think it comes down to temper your expectations.
It's sad that when I look at the Summer Game Fest Events, no events make me really hyped. I'm going to take a look at the Kheigley's show and the Xbox Showcase, but I know that I'm not excited for them. I might watch the others, but not live. PS: Sorry for the Rangers! I hope for you that they're gonna be back and made it to the final next year. (Unless my Habs comeback in the playoffs, which is not going to happen anyway 😄)
My biased opinion on the multitude of showcases is that smaller/ niche creators are now getting invited, getting more hands ons etc, myself included. As well as more access for the general public. But for the average consumer at home not going to the events surrounding it's... a lot.
With E3 it was all focused into a week and now it's all spaced out in different times with different companies, you never know when until last minute and sometimes half of them aren't even worth the time. It's just...urggh. And all we have now is Dorito Pope Geoff Keighly with his muppet/Kojima fetiche
Losing E3 absolutely killed game announcements and I blame everyone who celebrated its death. I remember watching as much E3 coverage as possible on G4 and scouring message boards for what I missed; it was a good time bc it was a central time to learn about new games where everyone was watching. Combining that with everyone wanting to leak everything and it's a miracle there's hype for anything anymore.
I feel like the only problem in this.. is all the people who just love to complain about everything..this is why they feel the need to put expectation disclaimers and other disclaimers out to hopefully get in front of all the negativity they are gonna receive online no matter how good the show is and these people wonder why studios are shut down and the industry is going through a rough patch...I dont care give me all the shows you want I just love watching info about games and devs making the games but thats just me. I watch them on my own time. I just enjoy this hobby I really feel like quite a lot of gamers hate gaming its quite confusing!
I understand the annoyance with E3 that game companies have. It was supposed to be a press conference and industry conference, but it turned into a public event. The public event aspect ruined it, for companies. While I'm perfectly ok with them dribbling out news about games. ti's definitely not the showcase event it once was. But I much prefer an unready game to stay silent instead of them shoe horning it into an E3 showcase.
You were right about e3 10 years ago. Me and my friends would literally spend the night over each other's house to watch the 3 day e3 showcase. I was always more excited for the Nintendo showcase.
I feel like a Games Showcase hasnt gotten me hyped in a long time, probably not since the Cyberpunk showcase honestly, and we all saw how that went on release
I wish we would just go back to like early 2000's gaming. E3 and everything around just having limited announcements really helped to make it less about announcing something 14 years in the future. Also, as I have been replaying old games on my OG xbox and PC, like I would take small, bad graphics games over the crap we mostly get now (outside of BG3 and Cyberpunk which i have adored). Like bring back something that doesnt look like a movie, bring something thats fun, and isn't 300 million to make.
Remember Peter Moore giving us those surprise tattoos of halo 2 and GTA 4… I miss that era of gaming. I miss THAT hype and surprise. I miss E3 and being surprised and amazed at all the new amazing games coming out. I miss spending summers getting excited to watch G4 and the E3 coverage they’d do all week. I miss it.
For me the Xbox Showcase is E3. 🤷🏽♂️ Every gamer I know the Xbox Showcase is the only thing they are excited for. Xbox is carrying this generation IMO they have all the exciting content that’s coming like Starfield Shattered Space, Perfect Dark, Fable, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Call of Duty in Game Pass, Blade and many more. The other two platform holders, in particular Sony has been atrocious. I love that Xbox has like 5 or 6 showcase a year. It keeps me excited and reaffirms I made the best decision possible buying a Xbox Series X because they have the most games.
Honestly I do miss E3 us as gamers we go through roller coaster rides of the industry and E3 was always the saving grace…some of us really love gaming for real so these small showcases hurt us sometimes because they are somewhat underwhelming and I think it’s just the remake live service era that I’m over
E3 was the great equalizer. Companies that were all too eager to disrespect their customers were forced to cough up the goods on a level playing field at a predictable point in time. Now we get these time-wasting bloated shows that show nothing, don't give the fans what they want, and are just an opportunity for these game company prima donna managers to get on camera for a tone-deaf circle-jerk without letting the key developers talk about their passion.
All these problems go away fast if you simply ignore ALL pre-release marketing and get hyped for games AFTER release. I'm only interested in games I can play on PC NOW.
My problem with showcases is they turned it into an attempt to outshine and talked about games they barely had in Alpha and didn’t know if the game would even work. Showcases should be for finished products, unless they want to be open about why it’s still being worked on. And for the most part, at that stage it should be QA. Don’t tell me what you hope to have and get my interest up. That’s for your investor calls. Don’t hype *me* for a game you can’t even promise will work.
Yea, this is more so a personal problem rather than a general issue. I only like specific games and they will excite me whether I know of them from the leak or not. Like the doom game for example, I can’t wait to see the trailer for that.
I miss E3 man. Games announcements meant something during E3, unlike now all of these publishers playing it safe and doubling down on live service games. What I hate about games marketing now is that they keep releasing 1 and half min trailers and after another year they release another short trailer, and when the game is "ready to ship" before it releases they start with a showcase for the game like Dying light 2 or Cyberpunk 2077 for example and many more. Man I don't care about your show case just give me a 15 mins demo to know what I'm buying and that's it no need to overhype your game. Your game will fail because your overhyping the game and when it releases they act surprised as how their games failed. Not to also mention every release has been this gen was very safe release with no groundbreaking elements or anything impressive. The only game that tried something new and succeeded was Elden Ring.
I pray Microsoft has some kind of grip on the potential leaks, for their showcase. I hate when surprises are ruined 😢 I'm hyped for Sunday, let it be great 🤙
I actually like the new way better, as I can focus on what I want to know about. I actually wish they would tell us upfront what will be shown at each show, so I can even better focus on what I want to see.
The industry across the board needs a new approach. I hope they see the positives that used to come from Gaming Magazines, getting to see the development process. Things shouldn't be so secretive. I Hope gaming can see all of the things it has forgotten about and left behind in previous gens that so many people would love to have comeback. We never wanted certain things to go away. I feel that if u grew up in the 90's. We truly believed the future of gaming was going to be awesome. It wasn't about graphics. It was physics effects, art styles, a range of gameplay modes, gameplay mechanics, damage effects, environmental interaction, engaging AI to play against in single player mode, CPU bots in offline modes, just good AI in games campaigns. Current video games focus on graphical nitpicking. It seems they forgot how much players enjoyed physics effects & other aspects that make games fun. Quirky graphics can work, if a creative art style is used. Add engaging CPU AI, gameplay modes, the list goes on.. idk what happened? Also: {We have seen that even if companies delay games, it isn't improving the quality of games being released. Which is a sign there is a MUCH DEEPER issue going on with modern games. No excuses, devs used to make great games with much less and they would have given anything to have certain capabilities to utilize that are available today. It just takes actual passion, focus & talent to make great games. Sidenote: I don't understand how some companies can keep getting away with messing up so badly. It's frustrating because other passionate devs are restricted from making other versions of certain types of games. Games that so many of us love but no longer get any version of them anymore.. These huge companies obtained full control over them. Even if they have no intentions to ever do anything with those game IP's. All I'm saying is there is huge fan bases out there and there's tons of passionate devs dying to make certain video game ideas.. I wish there wasn't so much BS getting in the way of all that creativity. That frustrates me beyond belief}
If only there was some sort of convention where ppl could go and see what these companies are about. We could call an electronic entertainment expo or something
when e3 is gone we face new problem now which is we don't have like marketing competition between companies to do there best to catch customer attention for the best games and everyone wait for the other or move the games deadline which makes less games releases every year to avoid competition for people money.
Only honestly seem to enjoy Nintendo's showings. Doesn't help that for me this generation for both Xbox and PlayStation has been sooooooo fucking underwhelming
E3's death has been a travesty for gamers. Like you said, my friends and I would take the day off and watch the announcements live. Then we would hype eachother up about what we were excited to play. Now what you considered a weakness, this shotgun approach where small things get looked over I see as a strength. Before companies had to come out with their best foot or they would get forgotten. I don't care if the Xbox showcase tucked when there's a Bethesda one 4 hours later or Sony and Ubisoft the next day. Now these companies are pooping out terrible showcases and it's the only content around.
I’m not sure I like how Sony is handling their games and how they’re revealed. We all want that big showcase where we finally get to see what Santa Monica, Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog are working on. At the same time, we all hate when a game is announced years ahead of its release date. I’m sure there’s a happy medium somewhere. I mean, we all know Ghost of Tsushima is in development, but the silence from Sony is deafening.
You know what just dawned on me. Is that since e3 shut down Sony has only released remasters and sequels. With few exceptions. I think the reason they left e3 is because they had no games. They knew they’d be dry for a long time so they bounced out of e3.
Always appreciate your analysis. Sober and levelheaded. Not trying to hype things up like a industry plant. But also not being a total cynic and doomer Thanks Matty!
I just think that not having something like E3 robs gamers of an exciting way to come together in the outside world. It just seems like we lost an exciting piece of culture. The game awards can never replace E3. It’s lame and boring.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too. When the major first party publishers backed away E3 it was doomed. When you started to see major 3rd party publishers do their own showcases that was it flatline. Here’s the thing the big publishers realize they could hold a showcase and draw a crowd. Their audience would show up regardless. They questioned if they needed to work with everyone else and hold this huge showcase that spent a lot of money, we forget these studios had to put a lot of money into this. It was cheaper to do your own showcase and you better plan what you want to show. You didn’t have to go all out and do whatever everyone else did you could do your own thing now we gamers were complaining we like these new showcases, but we still want what we used to have. We want to have our cake and eat it too, but that is not how the world works. It was great when everyone came together, and a major event was hosted. If you’ve ever heard the phrase, a rising tide lifts all boats it is true and you would see it there. This was because smaller games smaller studios could get eyes focused on them. Mid studios smaller third-party studios that might not have enough content to host a showcase for 40 minutes , come to a summer event. They could really shine but when all the big heavy hitters back out, you don’t have a foundation without a foundation. You can’t have this type of event. The major players don’t care. Sony doesn’t realize not having E3 hurts them more because a game that would’ve been noticed and purchased on their platform Noticed and now it won’t be purchased on their platform, not the same volume. They will still sell their huge titles, but it’s third-party sales that they won’t get as much. They won’t notice it because they’re still going to say we’re profitable but it could have been that they will miss out on, this, of course, makes it harder for smaller studios to get eyes on them, which makes the gaming industry harder to make it in. The one thing every publisher should want is for every other publisher to be successful because it makes their job easier. It builds their market, but that ain’t happening, it’s harder for everyone. That’s the problem we have now it’s becoming harder for everyone are getting tight and the big heavy hitters they can make it. They will survive through this, but it’s the smaller studios that have helped carry the load for the big guys that are in trouble now. The studios won’t notice until it’s too late until they have to start funding some of these smaller games that’s when things really are going to look bad because they’re going to have to come up with money to fund smaller projects that they would’ve been able to highlight at a showcase
Yes Matty, I watch your videos instead of the showcases because there are too many of them. The only showcases I watch are the ones with Todd Howard because we can always count with iconic quotes.
I keep seeing people saying that Concord is a copy of Overwatch, in the sense that its a hero shooter, yeah, but in terms of gameplay and level design, its much closer to a copy of Destiny, which makes sense when you find out one of the main people actually used to work at Bungie on Destiny.
Used to stream every second from all of these showcases every year. Lately I'm just so blackpilled with the state of the industry I'll just look up lists of announcements and watch individual trailers. The marketing hype isn't worth the mediocrity.
Yeah I really hate leaks and companies listing the titles they are going to show. I understand why the companies do it though at least. If they don't have any major titles showing up they say in advance so people won't get too disappointed but when you look at the 2016 God Of War reveal reaction? Yeah that's the best example for why I love the surprise reveals it's just something else.
Personally i think everyones scoring mentality is ruining gaming.. it seems like if a game isnt a 9 or 10 than its trash and that can really hurt a game. Just like forspoken, everyone was giving that game a 2, 3, or 4... anyone that gives forspoken a score that low has obviously never played a true 2 or 3/10 game. Forspoken is a solid 6/10 which is an average game.. but this is how people are now, if the game isnt nesr perfect than its complete trash and its idiotic... oh and to your comment about xbox showcases... if only xbox could make a game half as good as their showcases... theyve had ONE great game in what.... a decade? Oh and they shut down the studio that made that game... it just doesnt seem like xbox knows how to make great games anymore.. which is sad because the 360 is one of the greatest consoles ever made.. but once the xbox one came out they just stopped trying to make great games
IMO I like showcases better because they're strictly games no Hollywood promotion BS no 5 min speeches by paid celebrities, no BS where a prompt tells a grieving game dev to "please hurry up" when they were thanking a fellow dev who passed etc.
The olympics were an _event_ when it was every 4 years, now it's every 2 years and it feels like an obligation. Showcases are kinda the same, E3 certainly had it's problems, like cost, but nothing can match the pomp and circumstance of a big tradeshow.
I agree. I think the death of E3 really took the hype out of a lot of game announcements. We used to wait every year for this and it was an event! Showcases feel skip-able to me. I just don't really care, the hype machine is gone!
Jeff, Kayley, it's a sell out him hosting. E3 should not be allowed. You should be replaced with someone who's neutral and someone who's not biased I hate Jeff Keeley. Cause a man is such a two face liar
Do keep in mind though that they already announced way too many games way too early over the past 3+ years that are still not released so yeah, I would hope there isn't many new "reveals", release the other games first, it's getting ridiculous
while I thought the sony showcase sucked it doesnt change much the fact that this year has and looks to be a very good year. ff7 rebirth, persona 3 reload, smt 5, dragon quest 1-3 remake, metaphor, unicorn overlord, rise of ronin, helldivers, a new mana game, yakuza 8,astrobot, silent hill 2 remake, metal gear solid 3 remake, daybreak etc I just doesnt get anyone who isnt satisfied with this year. and thats all the matters to me, being happy and grateful every year. I could care less about year 2025, because im in 2024 enjoying what im being handed- 2025 is also the switch 2 year, so I can handle a lesser ps5 year then.
10:55 we didn’t like that he shoved the devs off the stage ironically the year before that we complained that the speeches were too long so we don’t know what we want
Those live service game updates are a complete waste of time. We don’t want/need to see Sea of Thieves, The Elder Scrolls Online, Minecraft and Flight Simulator at every Xbox showcase. They van just release separate trailers for those. We want to see new announcements or updates on new games.
Definitely in the group of waiting for coverage in videos or reading breakdown over watching showcases. Watching for an hour or two for stuff that won't drop for years, or a bunch of things probably not interested in. Just not about it. You'll cover it in 15 minutes with no fluff, concisely. Why even watch live?
Maybe we bring back E3, and every developer just slows the number of games they are pushing out? Bethesda doesn't need 3 AAA titles, and we don't need live service games coming out left and right. Lessen the games quantity and give us quality from the developer companies
people in their 30s and 40s who spend every waking moment watching podcasts, scrolling twitter, reading forum posts about the events in the games industry are killing their own ability to be surprised by any announcement and then acting shocked when they never feel any organic hype for anything. the games industry is in the dump compared to the past, yes, but there's an entire separate problem of hypebeasts who've fried their taste buds and dopamine receptors because of their own behaviour and social media habits.

Yes sir we def missing something with no e3. Lot of the soul of gaming is gone
F everyone who cheered on the death of E3
Having set showcase days and guaranteed competition was good for the industry… And even better for the fans
E3 killed E3 but there were people that sped up that process
E3 always sucked F you too. shilling and blaming someone other than E3 itself is sad and being a fanboy.
I don’t care either way but how does E3 qualify as competition compared to today’s showcases?
@anthonytitone because there's a deadline to show stuff. Now they all play chicken to see who'll go first so they can react. Sony can set their price if Xbox announces theirs first.

100%
I love this age I'm glad I was born in the age of the internet
I remember finding out what was being released by reading it in a Gamesmaster E3 special
Nah, the smartphone did that. The internet was largely fine until every imbecile had easy access via smartphone.
Like annoying RUclipsrs thinking they’re geniuses..
I don't want to know a game exists until an announcement six months before release.
Same. The rush to know everything about a game, it feels like a missed opportunity to surprise us.
Six months is a long time, a title could be delayed, given to another dev, or might have been scrapped remade
But to keep it fresh on an audience's mind. Have to do something
That Elder Scrolls 6 announcement “trailer” was a real low point
Going to E3 was one of my biggest dreams as a kid. Hopefully it comes back one day.
Without E3 there's never gameplay from the show floor anymore. These companies have more power to curate what is exactly shown.

I hope he wears a blazer but has a t shirt under it so that we know he’s a business daddy but still a normal guy too.
that first point hits the nail on the head, E3 was special and had that status. I always dreamed of going
The thing is, once you involve yourself in the industry, the shock value and surprise are going to be lost unfortunately.
for me the problem with a lot of these showcases is we keep seeing games in the current year that are 3 or 4 years out. i don't care about the games coming out in 2026 or 2027, which is why i'm glad jeff said that there won't be any this time around. don't release a trailer for a game unless you have a set release date that should be a rule imo.
Thats why Sony doesn't do showcases to announce games like 3 years later. They usual announce things like six months ahead and stuff
I missed E3 The summer showcase just not the same. The 3 major consoles just do their own thing now. I wish they could come together And just do one big showcase every summer 😂
The only thing about leaks the kills my excitement is when there's no gameplay.
We lived and played through the best years of video games being the 2000’s and 2010’s and we all took it for granted.
I want to see a big glossy stage with a middle aged exec and an auditorium full of cheers for even the most uninspiring announcements it was so much more fun
PEGGLE 2
Out of all the presentations Nintendo still has it mostly figured out but again they do like 2-3 a year
Its been a huge mistake decentralizing the game showcases.
As a consumer I like this way it's done. I can watch when I want and don't need to listen to all the fools and their opinions. Less nonsense
To this day I think about “riiiidge racerrrr”
I go into showcases blind, I don't want to know in advance what's going to disappoint me
Losing E3 absolutely killed game announcements and I blame everyone who celebrated its death.
PlayStation's 2016 E3 was GOD TIER, good times man
Gotta love how everyone hated E3 when it existed, amd now that its gone everyone misses it lol.
THIS PART
Every gamer I know the Xbox Showcase is the only thing they are excited for.
I miss e3
same
I feel like most of us do
Can we just get an in-person Sunmer Game Fest for gamers and developers to attend? If anyone can revive a more true-to-form E3 it’s Geoff.
Its easier and faster nowadays to just look at the leaks an few hours before the show and dip.
Honestly I do miss E3 us as gamers we go through roller coaster rides of the industry and E3 was always the saving grace…some of us really love gaming for real so these small showcases hurt us sometimes because they are somewhat underwhelming and I think it’s just the remake live service era that I’m over
I agree in terms of not having time to watch all the showcases. I miss the excitement of E3!
That just sounds like E3 in its final years so technically nothing changed
The industry across the board needs a new approach. I hope they see the positives that used to come from Gaming Magazines, getting to see the development process. Things shouldn't be so secretive. I Hope gaming can see all of the things it has forgotten about and left behind in previous gens that so many people would love to have comeback. We never wanted certain things to go away.
I feel that if u grew up in the 90's. We truly believed the future of gaming was going to be awesome. It wasn't about graphics. It was physics effects, art styles, a range of gameplay modes, gameplay mechanics, damage effects, environmental interaction, engaging AI to play against in single player mode, CPU bots in offline modes, just good AI in games campaigns. Current video games focus on graphical nitpicking. It seems they forgot how much players enjoyed physics effects & other aspects that make games fun. Quirky graphics can work, if a creative art style is used. Add engaging CPU AI, gameplay modes, the list goes on.. idk what happened?
Also:
{We have seen that even if companies delay games, it isn't improving the quality of games being released. Which is a sign there is a MUCH DEEPER issue going on with modern games. No excuses, devs used to make great games with much less and they would have given anything to have certain capabilities to utilize that are available today. It just takes actual passion, focus & talent to make great games. Sidenote: I don't understand how some companies can keep getting away with messing up so badly. It's frustrating because other passionate devs are restricted from making other versions of certain types of games. Games that so many of us love but no longer get any version of them anymore.. These huge companies obtained full control over them. Even if they have no intentions to ever do anything with those game IP's. All I'm saying is there is huge fan bases out there and there's tons of passionate devs dying to make certain video game ideas.. I wish there wasn't so much BS getting in the way of all that creativity. That frustrates me beyond belief}
If only there was some sort of convention where ppl could go and see what these companies are about. We could call an electronic entertainment expo or something
this isnt a fan problem, this is a problem of someone that cant stop reading rumors and getting their internal hype machine going and being let down.
when e3 is gone we face new problem now which is we don't have like marketing competition between companies to do there best to catch customer attention for the best games and everyone wait for the other or move the games deadline which makes less games releases every year to avoid competition for people money.
Cringe moments added alot of charms to these showcases
You know what just dawned on me. Is that since e3 shut down Sony has only released remasters and sequels. With few exceptions.
I think the reason they left e3 is because they had no games. They knew they’d be dry for a long time so they bounced out of e3.
I miss E3, once a year, all the games. Now it's so easy to miss a game.
Always appreciate your analysis. Sober and levelheaded. Not trying to hype things up like a industry plant. But also not being a total cynic and doomer Thanks Matty!
The internet killed gaming...
Did it really though?
People use the internet so people destroyed gaming.
I just think that not having something like E3 robs gamers of an exciting way to come together in the outside world. It just seems like we lost an exciting piece of culture.
The game awards can never replace E3. It’s lame and boring.
Jesus look at that young matty. Making me feel old
Where is the prediction video, Matty?
I think it’s time we have one showcase that presents the top games from every publisher!
Oh wait…
I keep seeing people saying that Concord is a copy of Overwatch, in the sense that its a hero shooter, yeah, but in terms of gameplay and level design, its much closer to a copy of Destiny, which makes sense when you find out one of the main people actually used to work at Bungie on Destiny.
Used to stream every second from all of these showcases every year. Lately I'm just so blackpilled with the state of the industry I'll just look up lists of announcements and watch individual trailers. The marketing hype isn't worth the mediocrity.
It's almost like upfront competition (ie E3) was a good thing
Yeah I really hate leaks and companies listing the titles they are going to show. I understand why the companies do it though at least. If they don't have any major titles showing up they say in advance so people won't get too disappointed but when you look at the 2016 God Of War reveal reaction? Yeah that's the best example for why I love the surprise reveals it's just something else.
I watch showcases with no expectations. If something catches my attention, that's a win for me.
I miss E3. Keighley doesn't even come close.
The problem is 10 minCGI trailers and 10 secs of gameplay ... if that
I don’t watch most showcases except Xbox and maybe PS.
Content creators like you give me the bullet points
Maybe we bring back E3, and every developer just slows the number of games they are pushing out? Bethesda doesn't need 3 AAA titles, and we don't need live service games coming out left and right. Lessen the games quantity and give us quality from the developer companies
