What a beautiful, masterfully designed vehicle. I love it when somebody designs a vehicle with something specific in mind, and crafts every detail to match. Things like the painted on emblem and the flush door handles are such small touches, but they serve the overall purpose, and they add a ton to the personality to boot.
In 1938 Mercedes did it's speed runs on the first stretches of the Autobahn with racing driver Rudolf Caracciola. You can find the video of the record run on YT... outstanding stuff from another era.
Welcome to Adolph's used cars.. Gentleman what you're looking at right here is a classic 1938 Mercedes. It has three headlights, one for every Reich. That level of Illumination really helps with concentration on those long trips to Warsaw and back, and a spacious interior leaves plenty of room for picking up a couple of gypsies and undesirables along the way. You can pilot this baby to world domination, because the chambers in this engine never run out of gas... This Blitzkrieg of a bargain is currently only available in France, so make your way down to adolf's used cars, schnell, before we relocate to South America.
That is a beautiful car. I would love Mercedes to come out with the modern iteration of this car. I’d surely not be able to afford it, but I think it’d be nice just to see it. Thanks, Tommy.
@@elihernandez330 I valet modern cars, and can confirm all modern cars are this way. Even "sports cars" and "SUVs" are this way. Most pickups are even going this route
You need to lay your hands on some American late 40’s and early 50’s straight eights. They were actually petty common back then. Buick had an overhead valve version. Most of them could crack 100 mph.
My grandfather bought a 1936 La Salle straight 8 in the mid 60s, and he used to cruise on the highway at 90mph with 2/3rds throttle. That car could have easily hit 100 if you pushed it. It only had 105hp, but it was geared fairly high for the day and had gobs of torque. Sadly the engine recently granaded because of a poorly done restoration.
The late 30's Chrysler airflow was a good example as well. It was so radically different for its time Chrysler toned it down quickly after because nobody was really ready for its streamlined design
Probably water coolant. I highly doubt Mercedes of all brands being proud of their history and all let a prized possession run all day puking oil all over the ground.
Nice video. Just perhaps next time when driving in similarly classic & rare car with a remarkable engine, I suggest let the engine make most of the soundtrack and keep quiet:)
It might not be from a well-remembered area, but in terms of cars you should never look at what happened during the time they were built. You should just look at the vehicle, as it is the thing that matters. It survived in the end, he didn't :) Gorgeous design, and the classic Mercedes Benz Silver. And although it isn't that big, it feels that way with those giant arches.
pretty amazing and beautiful, but a Duesenberg SJ from 1929 could pass it easily. And the Tatra T77 of 1934 was actually a production car with similar aerodynamics, rather than a one-off. The T77a could go 150 km/h with only 75 horsepower. In engineering, it's important to understand that we're always standing on the shoulders of giants that went before. We could also mention the Rumpler Tropfenwagen of 1921, which is considered to be the first streamlined production car. It managed to get a Cd of 0.28 with most of the curves just in one plane, rather than compound.
wow! now thats a cool car if i was a millionaire i would rather drive this than a ferrari. but good luck finding parts for it. lol. super villain car it is! i love it! 👌
Probably just the rad, I don't believe cars of this era had water coolant overflow tanks so if it started to get hot or boil usually cars would just as you say puke the coolant on the ground
I once saw a full no expense spared resto of a late 60s mustang boss 302 where the owner purposely had poor fit and finish done to the car so it was truly period correct. It was absolutely mental.
1930’s 180 hp uffda what will we do with all that power? 2020 only 250 hp WTH? I need at least 300 I’m going to drive 75…😂😂also hey my fuel mileage is terrible lol 1995 Crown Vic 180 hp LX model 24 mpg hwy all day at 70 cd amazingly low for a large 4 door sedan 🤷♂️ merged fine, 154 hp Camry’s same thing 160- 180 hp 3.8l GM same thing. Nobody did 12 second 1/4 miles but we got back and forth to work, the grocery store.. Gas prices up and now everyone is wondering why mpg isn’t… there should be a mandated eco mode available on all new vehicles over 200 hp (it may never get used, I know) to limit the hp so even if you mat it in eco mode it goes just not maximum fuel burn unless you flip the switch. Make the option to use it available anyway, most people will use the power if it’s there this just helps keep us from unintentionally burning fuel like a cruise ship, ya’ know?
They're based in the US, it would be difficult to get the Pajero Pinin to review...unless they get someone who can access one to review for them. You know, like the "Dude, I love or hate my ride home edition" that they did in 2020.
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!
This car didn't do anything, Tommy. There's no need to talk about it's "sinister past." Those people are long gone. Let's move on and enjoy the German ingenuity.
You recorded this some time ago, right Tommy, when you recorded the other old Mercedes videos in Germany? So why did you choose to release this video (with its awkward Nazi-worshipping overtones) on Rosh Hashanah, of all days, one of the holiest days of Judaism? I generally love your videos, Tommy, and I get that this is a fascinating car, but the choice of day seems unfortunate, at the very least.
Tommy’s delivery tip toeing around of the situation in Europe in the 1930s was flawless
As Ive said, there's zero reason to tip toe around it. It's a car and the people who did "bad things" in Europe in that era are long gone.
A lot of it was bullshit

When he floored it, it definitely moved pretty quick for being before the 60s... (when things really ramped up with American muscle) I'm impressed
I believe the compass on that car points towards Poland
At the next junction take the third right....

Yes, Third Reich
😂😂😂😂
One of the only cars that can cause a bone and a tear in the eye at the same time. So beautiful
It reminds me of a car the bad guy in a cartoon would drive.
I love it! Im glad you got a once in a lifetime experience with such a beautiful piece of history.
Amazing sound of the supercharger- glad he got on it. Very cool car. Great review. Thanks!
Great video. That was a unique sound coming from that engine. Very cool

My uncle used to race his Hudson straight 8 , it sounded awesome with straight pipes!
That door closing sound is the most satisfying sound I've ever heard

If they did it would be a plastic 4 door fwd 4 cyl compact suv.

@@elihernandez330 You just murdered my dreams, Eli. But you're likely totally right.
Didn’t know Arnold would be driving…
Beautiful peace of history. Wonderful sound. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience with us.
4:50 the car literally sounds like a Hellcat , you can hear the Supercharger whining from inside the cabine.
Have only been eaiting for a full video of this for 2 months
@2:20 I hope that spot isn't from the car, cuz that would be a pretty nasty leak.
History can be at its best with the most beauty even when it was at its worst...
The story about this particular car is incredible.
God, I love that supercharger whine. I like electric cars, but I'll miss that sound.
Why would you like electric cars?
It sounds like a semi truck diesel. Very full and throaty sound. The lack of cats in that era help with the deepness.
Ok dude, double clutching the up shifts
It’s about time. Thank you for posting this!
Thank you Tommy and many Thanks to Mercedes for letting you drive that iconic automobile

Just wow in several ways! The design but also that dashboard! Makes me almost crying seeing all these flat computerised screen in modern cars.
Imagine that in mirror gloss black
Love the double clutching!
Absolutely wonderful experience to watch that, many thanks for sharing
Great video Tommy. This car brought out the little kid in you on Christmas morning. Keep’m coming
Is that oil leaking underneath
Looks like the engine needs a lot of work! Will easily cost a million to repair if there is crack in the block!
Probably water coolant. I highly doubt Mercedes of all brands being proud of their history and all let a prized possession run all day puking oil all over the ground.
Great review Tommy. Beautiful automobile.

Simply awesome! Thanks!
So this was the inspiration for Michael Keaton's Batmobile.
The interior’s materials just scream luxury :)
I'm really curious what that flipper switch in the middle of the steering wheel is.

Very cool. What was that new Mercedes that drove up in the background at the beginning of the film? Stunning!!
Fantastic
A certainly beautiful historic vehicle that sounds real cool. Does it have a wicked oil leak though?

Suicide doors, quite literally for some former occupants!

In the days before MB became unreliable over engineered expensive crap. I wonder what the value of this car is?
WOW back in those days where craftsmen ,unbearable craftsmanship 👌

When people restore a car, the fit and finish tends to be significantly better than the original. We have better tools and better precision today.
