3 Things We Dislike | Royal Enfield Hunter FAQ #3
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- One, Royal Enfield put in a strangely stiff rear suspension setup, a mistake they went on to repeat with the Super Meteor 650 too, and that ruins a large part of what should be a fun and lively motorcycle experience. Instead, especially on city roads, you remain painfully aware of how little the rear absorbs at most speeds and in most situations.
Two. This is compounded by the fact that the Ceats that Royal Enfield uses for the Hunter are not very good. They feel slightly slippery even in dry conditions and what confidence the bike's size and effort brings, the tyres sap.
Three. The most annoying part about the Hunter is how much worse it feels to ride at highway speeds. While RE didn't change the gearing, the smaller wheels on the Hunter give it the shortest gearing between the three 350s. This makes highway speeds the most busy-feeling on the Hunter. And we're just not ready for a city-specific 350cc motorcycle in a single-bike garage country.

finally someone talked about the slipperiness of this bike i own this bike and it dosent give u confidence with wet roads at all... even at normal roads it feels slippery sometimes
Hey PaxtonPlayzz. The owners in the comments did say that the Ceats feel slippery but the MRFs do better - which ones do you have on yours?
I met with an accident on this bike, i corned it a little more and bamm !! 🥵 I was on the road that day i thought i don’t skill but the fact is on the same road same turn, i did heavy cornering on my apache 160 and came out smoothly . 😅
Yes it doesn't soak potholes well and feels underpowered on highways but it's a great fun city bike. The magic is that you can ride it at any speed and it will put a smile on your face.
Its dimensions and agility surely make it an easy bike in the city.
I bought hunter last month.
1) it was painful to go for long ride in bumpy roads, many times i had to stand up Just to protect my back from potholes and speed breakers
2) very poor visibility during night
3) mileage was around 30-32 , even though i was not throttling hard and maintained average speed
4) mirrors were not that great
5) very slippery
5) excellent ride for city traffic and. Good roads with curves.
Why is the mileage so low? I extract almost 30-31 mileage from a 390
I have also experience slippery Ness while driving on wet roads and mud mostly in back tire.
Mine shows me 34
The mileage is 32-35 in the city however it bumps upto 42-44 on the highway
@@adarshbhavsar122 it's a new bike and currently in running period so it's obvious to show low mileage during this period.
1. I got MRFs on my Rebel Blue Hunter 350. They're better than the Ceats
2. Mirrors are useless at 80+ kmph
3. The exhaust sound gets better once the engine heats up
4. The seat is not good for long rides
5. Suspension seems ok for my 6.2 height and weight
6. The joy of riding my Hunter makes up for all these caveats, for now.
Thanks for sharing your analysis! Helps other riders!
Bro mrf which tyre are you using
Can you tell more about the tyre
@@the_blank_letter it's same stock size. But mine are MRF Zapper-C.
pillion seat really sucks in hunter!
@@girishpersonal4606 agreed.
Replace the current shock absorbers with the classic 350 ones( rs 3200 for a pair) and you will see a totally different hunter. Also if you can replace the existing clutch system with the prospec easy x ( around rs3800), you will have a much comfortable ride
Do you mean the shocks from reborn classic?
Your observation is spot on. Waiting for a genuine feedback from you on Honda CB 350 twins. Thank you.
As soon as possible!
@@motorinc I am also waiting
@debojyotiboruah1651 - CB 350 twins, are you serious 😳
Good that you are doing unbiased review of RE bikes atlast! Powerdrift used to make too much paid content! They never criticised the RE! 😅
Slight disagreement with 3rd point.. I have rode the bike for more than 500 kms continuously at 90-100..never felt any vibes.. The journey was super smooth. Just the bad roads where u will find this bike tiring
Thanks for letting us know!
I have hunter 350 and i agree with all your points , I've done long rides on it like Solan - chitkul and back , Manali to Meerut , solan - dehradun , and few short rides . It Is a STIFF bike . Perfectly designed for cities but not for everything . Got my front tyre upgrade yesterday apollo tramplr xr and that shit cost me ₹4500 and i had to spend that much cuz the roads ain't good here .
This is best automobile channel of India, according to me. 👌😃
Thank you so much!
Whatever the specs and the feel may be, it's a Royal Enfield and you're getting it for 1.5 lac starting and that's all that matters by now. Royal Enfield has reached that destination where people buy them just by their brand name.
Also, hunter is focused as a commuter not a tourer motorcycle. Mainly for city use like those hero and TVS bikes that come for around 1 lac but being a royal Enfield it is ok to cost 1.5 lac for this commuter being a Royal Enfield and with the 350cc engine looking at the size only. However it is tractable though.
Thanks for sharing @narendrairengbam112.
I also thought about the CEAT tyres when taking a short spin . They don't inspire confidence.
I am also a hunter owner faced many types of problem like tappet noise , hard clutch, Handling problem, heating issue , not stable in up down road and also faced these problems already you have said
Ps: i go to the service centre in multiple times for Engine noise ,tappet noise, front suspension noise but they said this is normal engine sound
Strange!
I still use my stock mrf zapper tyres for my highness 350 for two and half years, covering 30k kms...still life to go for another 2k kms.
I think RE hadn't any plan for the hardcore RE customers in this field this time when they were launching this bike because people with short height and young generation like me were starving to own an RE bike and RE has given this type of city bike to us. As a short height customer I am happy with this bike and feel great.
Maybe taller riders won't feel that much comfort who are going on highway on this bike.
This bike clearly targets those who want to own an RE but they dont have that Weight to hold the bike plus short height and low budget😊😊.
I got meteor 350 in Jan 2024, And also have a R15 v3 BS4, after riding 350, I love my R15 more
Thanks for sharing your perspective Nitesh! Can you tell us ore about your experience with both?

Stiff suspension They did it 650 meteor bcoz of low ground clearance soft suspension would lower the ground clear with load like pillion or luggage
Yes but that makes no sense. You'll feel every bump but avoid scraping 13% of speed breakers...
4 . Missing LED Headlamps With DRL
Absolutely right 👍🏻.. well said
Exactly what i felt after riding close to 18 thousand kms
I like everything except the speed don't know why don't get confidence riding 80+ on hunter
Losing its power at 85 km/h with 350cc !?. Well, that was weird.
suspension is like bicycle at the rear and cello pen at front. mass majority dont care anyway.
Savagely honest as normal 👍🏼
Stiff suspension is legacy, not to be messed with...
🤣 but somehow they managed to nail the Classic and the I/C 650s both have decent non-stiff suspension!
@@motorinc oh those mistakes... 🤣
Well, I was looking forward towards this design ( Street Twin-ish) but in the end lot of things work against it. I had almost made up my mind to board the RE train with this one but alas I have to wait till Scram 450 , T/Bajaj 400 hits the market. If they don't turn out well, Honda CB350 RS is done deal for me. Don't kill me for going across segments 😅.
Why would we kill you! Congratulations on your purchase!
@@motorinc Haven't purchased anything yet. Will wait for your verdict on upcoming Bajaj/Triumph bikes and then decide. RE 450s are nowhere on the horizon, so will likely skip, if not launched by Diwali this year.
Would love to hear your opinion on the CB350RS by Honda! And much love to you guys Shumi and Kartikeya!!
We don't think very highly of it Sidhant. The engine and gearing makes no sense to us, and this is the least Honda of all the Honda bikes we've ever tested

The 1 thing I don't like about Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
Ok!
opinion, for 1. Bullet base model for 1.75 lakh or hunter base model with reborn suspension, handle bar risers and padded seat (approx 7 k) for 1.57 approx , should I save 16 k with hunter or buy bullet base with extra 16k , I am a budget buyer
Perhaps, to maximize the power delivery, they have stiffened the rear suspension.🤔🤔
If the stiff suspension cannot keep the rear on the ground (which is the suspension's primary job, comfort is secondary), then the power delivery doesn't matter...
@@motorinc ok thanks
I love hunter 350 I would buy it

A mistake so nice you decided to make it twice?!
Clearly the target audience is not the stereotyped "Royal Enfield" customer. Seems like RE wanted to seep into the Gen Z market, which is primarily not a tourer or an explorer. Just normal city use. And they've got that part right!

My Hunter slipped on a slightly wet road. I was in full gear so didn’t sustain any injury. But it could’ve been worse. You’re right on point with the tyres.
Glad to hear that you're safe @kishan1592.
But it is selling like hot cakes really. I live in Kolkata and I see a lot of Hunter on the roads, in my neighbourhood, in the parking lot, etc. Royal Enfield is dominating the 350 CC market completely in this day and age. I would be curious to know your views about Highness 350
Because RE now is a cult everyone is following it blindly to just say that they have a fake 350cc engine which cant even cruise at 100kph.
Yes , I agree with you. But I too owned this bike but riding comfort is not good. If you are paying that much amount and riding posture is not comfortable then it's a waste of money. I can recommend paying extra and getting a classic 350. This is where the royal company excels.
Hunter: It does sell very well indeed!
Highness: We've not recommended a single one yet!
@@motorinc Yeah, I know that you have not recommended it yet. That is why I was wondering if you could give your 2 cents on that as well. It would be really helpful for potential buyers like us.
@@YousufKhan-cz6rvHow is it's rear suspension, does it gives you back pain after daily use???
Hunter seemed to be mostly focused on providing a college commuter friendly style design...but it seems to have forgotten that it's still an RE and can't be a younger brother to the classic because of these little problems
@@arindamadhikary1844i dont know why but sales are dominating like crazy 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@arindamadhikary1844 i agree the mileage is low, but when people are willing to compromise with the costs and the weight, the title of the Royal Enfield trumps the overall mileage, its actually around 35-37kpl btw...tested myself thrice
@@arindamadhikary1844 Two college kids in my society got the Hunter. When I asked them why they didn't choose the Classic they both said they found it too heavy. They wanted a RE but they didn't want to manage the extra weight of the Classic.
Another point for the Hunter is that it's below the 2l mark which is a psychological mark for buying a bike.
@@arindamadhikary1844 Buddy I am from amchi Mumbai. 😜

That's why I was talking about lakhs since the Hunter is within the 2l mark and the Classic is a lot more for basically the same engine.

Excellent! Glad you're liking your bike!
Hmm so you want to say you live in the city
RE has paid PR for each positive curved ball.
Omg how accurate these points are. My friend owns one of these and while riding that, I feel every point that you've mentioned. Thanks a lot for putting some light on these facts. And the rear suspension is SO PAINFUL.
I'll share something about the single bike garage point. Mine is the same, to the extent that that single bike has to be ridden by 2 people taking turns (bro)! In such a scenario, the purchase decision cannot be 1 person's alone. My preferences were slightly more powerful, more nimble, slightly sporty bike. My brother's was fuel economy, on road price, easy & comfortable (rider & pillion), subtle looks (nothing brash). We ended up buying the Hunter. Recently took it for a long ride solo for 3 days. I can probably give up the top end power considering legal speed limits, but the suspension stiffness, particularly since I'm 5.11, makes long tours testy. I ended up riding it in a supersport position on the highway @ 80kmph to rest my lumbar. I wanted the MT-15 or the R15 instead of this, as the engine felt joyful & tractable for the city, and powerful & torquey for highway sportiness. Loved the Scram 411 looks, but felt the 19inchers made it not so nimble, flat tyre fears, & mildly out of budget. Still yearning for something more powerful, & going to save up money & get the Duke 390 or the upcoming RE 450 roadster or the Triumph one. Need more roadsters that are good all rounders.
Great point Don! We hope you can have a bike all to yourself soonest!
@@motorinc thanks!!
Sadly I've been diagnosed with lumbar lordosis & compression. Have to stay away from riding for some time, don't know how long. Kind of felt miserable after learning about that.
1. Light weight
2. Long stroke
3. 4 value head
4. Low end torque at ~3000RPM
5. Dual rear suspension
6. Comfort riding position
7. Less bells and whistles

As soon as we can Shashank!
I was actually going to buy one as a second bike alongside my 390 Duke last Diwali. It seemed like a great package for intracity use and quite affordable. I test rode one and liked it. It wasn't particularly exciting but it was comfortable and easy to ride. However, I test rode the Scram right after that and immediately dropped the Hunter from my list. The difference in torque was immediately noticeable.
I then played around with ideas and ended up buying an Interceptor. Most fun bike I have ever owned!
The Hunter's base (Retro) variant looks like the perfect candidate for a classic Trials bike conversion. Just install the front fork and wheel of the Scram and longer rear shocks. It's only an idea. Not one I intend to implement.
TWP! Great choice!

totally agree with the points. this is first bike I bought. It has been 6 months. sometimes I feel like selling it. Total pain in the ass specially with a pilion rider for outside city ride( forget about 400/600 km ride). the thing I hate the most is the top speed. Above 90 feels like the bike is dying. Come on RE. Why did you give a 350 cc engine?Only to get less milage? No match for 150 cc MT or other 150 cc bike. My suggestion-- don't buy. If you still wanna buy take a 50 km continuous test drive. Only two positives-great look and great handling.
We are sad to know about your experience, especially since this is your first motorcycle. A longer test ride, perhaps, would've given you a clearer picture about the bike.
Bhai its a long stroke engine, you can’t really go speed in these machine, it is good for low speeds or otherwise prefer short stroke engines
I have been riding my Honda 3b 350 more than a year now. For me it's best of both - easy to maneuver in city, light on the shoulders, comfortable and happy to cruise around 100kmph on the highways.

MRF is the best doesn't wear out and provides excellent grip.
Perfect on I was keen on buying it but after test ride it I made my decision 😅 not to go for it stiff suspension and it was too compact
Thanks for letting us know AG!
I live in Canada, but when I really want sensible bike reviews I start looking around on Indian channels and media. If there's one place on Earth where people know the bikes it's India. Not just for the sheer staggering amount of motorcycles on the road, but overall riding conditions and the fact that many people there learn to ride virtually right after they learn to walk makes them uniquely qualified to know what's good on two wheels.
What is the current bike that can do everything? I am a proud owner of a 100cc bike and I love my machine, but now I am looking for an upgrade that can handle all my needs. What would you recommend? Please advise or share a video.

gotta disagree in one point, where i live Ceat tires behave better than mrf tires that come with RE 350 motorcycles.

Worst suspension, clutch ,mileage which must for bike comfort.. hunter missed that...

The best in that class remains the Classic 350. On the highway, the Meteor can feel _slightly_ better. We can't recommend the CB350s - we dislike the engine/gearing/noise setup and those are the least Honda Hondas we've ever had to test

The change in the wheel size alters the gearing on one side and the peppy chassis makes the lack of performance at the top more obvious
