    I agree with what Dan said. I mean, I know that most people want to play as Batman over Robin, but if Batman is the only playable character, then why call the game Batman & Robin? Things like that just kinda bug me.

      because that's what the show was called at the time...Konami was trying to sell copies based on the name recognition, I mean it's usually one of those oversights that dev don't think about when they are making the game, hell maybe it was originally MEANT to be "the Adventures of Batman" the video game until they were told to match the name with the show's run

    The introduction song for Batman and Robin on the Sega Genesis is over nine minutes long. That's some serious dedication and the quality is more than worthy of the cartridge space. With the right composers, the Sega Genesis was capable of incredible electronic music that the SNES couldn't quite compare to as far as it's grittiness and heavy bass.

    • @miamimagicians

      @@miamimagicians Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that I outright think the Genesis pumps out better music. The SNES obviously has samples for instruments. But the Genesis in my opinion beats it for electronic and heavy bass. Because it's raw, no samples. Generally though, nothing can quite touch the ost of games like Chrono Trigger and how it sounds out of the SNES.

    Interesting enough, the Super Nintendo Version was supposed to be called, "Batman: The Animated Series." However, the show was about to go into its second or third season and the title changed to "The Adventures of Batman and Robin." Because the show's title changed, the SNES game title had to change too.
    In terms of which is the better game representing the show, I would pick the SNES. However, I do have to admit, the SEGA version had a rocking soundtrack, especially the boss level for Mad Hatter.

    Guys, I think you should start incorporating "Draws" into your videos. For example, during the Graphics part of this, I think the Genesis version having cool scaling and rotating effects to look like 3D is great, while sprites and such are more detailed in the SNES version should give them a Draw since they both have something good and unique towards them.

      true, with much more character on screen, en 3D effect, the graphic part should be draw. Same thing for the gameplay. the Sega game don't just have Robin, it's have Robin and Batman in same time, 2 players mode is a big bonus for the gameplay

    • @madson-web

    • @thlkl4e
      @thlkl4e 10 лет назад +7

      I think graphics should be evaluated as a whole (as they did). Sure the sprites with pseudo 3D effects look cool, but the main characters look tinny and goofy and the backgrounds are lame and less detailed. The shooter stages have no detail at all (just a flat background) an that "mushroom" stage looks like could've been done in a old NES. The Snes version is graphically more consistent, detailed and matches the source material (it really looks like the cartoon).

    The two games are like a staples of their respective systems. The Nintendo version is slower, more polished and sophisticated, just like the console itself, while the SEGA version is brute, mindless, faster and frantic - synthesizing essence of the Genesis.
    About your video: I think, that in terms of visuals, the Sega game puts Nintendo in his little pocket. This game looks freaking amazing and does everything and more of what most Nintendo fanboys claim to be impossible on the Genesis. And while the SNES version can easely be ported on the Genesis, without sacrificing much; the oposite would be next to impossible without the help of Super FX or similiar chip. Also, in your unbiased comparison of the gameplay, you forget to mention that the SEGA version is CO-OP..which is kind of a big deal.

    • @SlothOfSpeed
      @SlothOfSpeed 10 лет назад +8

      Yeah, I think the CO-OP point is really important because I had a blast playing the game with my brother as a kid. Especially considering the title, I wish CO-OP would have been discussed more in the review. I also agree with your comment on the graphics. The video does not seem to fully appreciate how novel and beautiful the 3D effects were for the time. Yes, the sprites and backgrounds look way better on the SNES. However, those gorgeous sprites and backgrounds weren't nearly as groundbreaking as the effects in the SEGA version were. Plus, the smaller sprites allowed the Genesis version to fit more chaos on the screen.

    Obviously, whether you like one or the other more is a matter of taste, but objectively the Genesis game is much better. If we are arguing which game best represents the batman license you can say that Super is (if you overlook that Batman has the agility of a turtle), but let's imagine an FMV type Batman game where you see a real high quality Batman movie in which you press a button every 2 minutes. The game would represent Batman perfectly, but it would be bad and boring, so what counts is which game is better.
    PS: As for the graphics, the Super version is very good, but it is competing with the probably best game in the technical section of the Genesis. To say that the Super's graphics are better is either not knowing the Genesis version well or being quite biased.

      @baigandinel7956 9 лет назад +6

      +Vincent GR Sega fans are the most vocal because they know they are the underdogs. You have to explain what about the game is actually more "technologically advanced." Is it the action that could be done on NES Conta? The fancy Mode 7 / Battletoads Turbo Tunnel type effects? In this case, the SNES has superior animation. By the way you'll find much better shading than Genesis in a box of crayons. Genesis' only advantage is CPU, which often isn't relevant unless its truly fully utilized. SNES games with chips run faster than Genesis too, erasing any last advantage.

    • @104d_3rr0r_vince
      @104d_3rr0r_vince 9 лет назад +6

      Baigandine L I am not a sega fan as you can see from my avatar. Between the two consoles though I would choose sega cause I prefer sega games.
      They have arcade feeling. As for the cpu, yes nintendo should put their hands deeper and not use that cheap cpu. This is sad cause their chipset is better. Another issue with snes is the lower resolution of 256 pixels. Some games looks zoomed.
      It is a matter of taste.

    At some point, sprite size effects gameplay. Bigger sprites do not a good game make. Thus Larger Sprites = worse game, when you are in a high action game like the SEGA Batman.... SEGA Genesis Batman is obviously a Contra-esque Batman, which is refreshing to see gameplay over license taking precedence....... Saying SNES Batman has better visuals, is like saying Dragon's Lair Has better graphics than "The Last of Us. Kinda Subjective...." SEGA GENESIS Batman is just more of a game and less of an "experience" like the SNES game. Personally the SNES Batman bored me after stage 3, plus the SEGA game is 2 player Co-op Nuff said on gameplay. Somewhere between the two of them, there could have been a game made that satisfied both hardcore action game players and slow methodical almost-RPG game players. Wish another Contra-like Batman came out, but everything these days is slow and methodical and soft. Like the SNES game.

    • @Maru96
      @Maru96 10 лет назад +5

      Great comment, my opinion is pretty similar. The SNES game is a pseudo-complex slow paced platformer, while the Genesis game is a run n gun, very different games, it depends on your tastes. But hell, even AVGN preferred the genesis version.
      Also, the genesis games isn't that difficult, you guys are exaggerating. But if that is the case then Sunset Riders, Contra 3 and Hard Corps are bad games because they are hard and you need skills to beat them?

Unbalanced is probably better. It starts of fine, but get too hard way too fast. You can't beat it with low powered weapons and its so hard to stay alive long enough to get weapons maxed out. You have to be flawless in later levels and thats a bit much.

Batman unloads all the Bat-wing's weapons at him and misses? The Joker is able to shoot down the Bat-wing with one shot from a revolver? It makes no sense at all.

    The reason why Robin isn't in the SNES version is because it was going to be called Batman: The Animated Series, but the name change in the show resulted in the game being called The Adventures of Batman and Robin.

    Very good game. I have this one for the SNES. Sega Genesis looks good too, nice graphics, but I don't like this "Contra" shooter style. One of most impressive levels for me it's the Riddler one. The graphics, especially the reflects on the floor and rotation effects are amazing! And the investigation / RPG style it is very good too! I have this cartridge until today and never beated this game, that final stage it's so hard, man! Time to play it again! Thanks you guys!

      If you have the reflexes of Sonic the hedgehog and the patience of an ancient sage then yes, then Genesis version might be some what challenging, but heck that's why there are codes for skipping/selecting levels lol! Overall gameplay though I like the genesis version way more because its so fast and intense, offers 2 players, and has amazing music. also the final boss battle is amazing while the SNES one is just the joker on a jetpack flying around annoying Mr. Bat lol!

      Are you trolling? Ive been playing video games since i was 3 years old not even joking, im currently 27. Ive beaten endless amount of games probably 1000 like no joke on every single console. Let me tell you that this game on the genesis version i tried and tried and tried, Guess what i failed... I just couldnt beat this game, i got very far but i couldnt beat it. I can say without fear that The Adventures of Batman and Robin on Genesis is near impossible without cheats or codes.

    • @BubbaAce
      @BubbaAce 10 лет назад +2

      KAILOONE It is challenging I admit, but other than that I didn't encounter a single moment in the game where I got furious and/or rage quit because of ludicrous difficulty. I'm not gonna lie, the final boss (Mr. Freeze) is hard at first, but after figuring out his pattern of attack, it's pretty simple. Also, I've beaten the game WITHOUT CHEATS OR CODES and the ending is somewhat of a let down compared to the SNES version

    Another thing to point out about the SNES version of the game is that it featured more villain characters from the show than its Sega Genesis counterpart, since the only villains who appeared in that version of the game were Joker (& Harley Quinn), Two-Face, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Freeze.

    Perhaps because these games are so different they're just really hard to properly compare?
    How would you choose which game won on an aspect that is really different but done well on both? Because one is closer to the show? and what if the games you were comparing licensed from a really bad show? would the game further away from the source win?

    Both games are sweet but entirely different, similar to the Batman Returns titles. Im more of a Sega collector but the SNES version is an absolute must own for the system and for any Batman fans. I dislike the cardboard box Genesis releases however and wish it had been in a clamshell case. That would be my only gripe with the Sega version...and its hard as hell!

    Funilly enough, I'm not sure if you heard this or not, but the SNES game wasn't gonna be called The Adventures of Batman and Robin. It was gonna be called Batman: The Animated Series, which explains why Robin wasn't playable. But due to the name change to the series, execs kinda forced them to use that name.

    • @Diehardstlcardinalsfan

    I really love this episode. I know this is kind of an old review but there's one part I didn't like about the SNES version. It still kind of bothers me a little bit. The problem is that the character Harley Quinn wasn't really part of a boss fight in the SNES version. She was mostly a cameo in a few cutscenes. It was mostly the Joker and I have no problem with that. However, since it's Batman the animated series and it was her first apperance. It would of been nice if Harley Quinn was first a boss battle in the SNES version. Then it should of been the Joker. This was covered by the Sega Genesis version that Harley Quinn was first a boss battle. Then it was the Joker next. That's one part I didn't like about the SNES vesrion. While the Sega Genesis version had that part and it was pretty damn cool to see that part. Anyways, that's one part but the games I thought they were ok for it's time. Anyways, great work you guys and I'll keep watching.

    As a fan of both games I think you were right about the SNES version being better (I really wanted the Sega one to be better). The game had a more Batman-ey feel than the Genesis game, which is essentially a shmup. Graphics should've been a draw.
