For example the specific stats, their own history, how the Kickstarter evolved (seeing as it's "always the first time for someone watching") esp in comparison to other games of similar scale. Plus the fact we don't get a more detailed overview of the layers of the project and how things are decided and developed. I think half the appeal of the project is showing us how the sausage is made, but I just haven't been seeing any of that until the most recent ISCs, and even then... I also think it's probably because they didn't hire a PR team, when they absolutely should've. Certainly have a group of backers provide feedback before they try something new and drastic. And if they did, then that's even worse 😂

There has only been 1-2 games that have listened to my support or recommendations. One of which is Star Citizen. It's what people want but when the consequences of not relying on a parent company or shareholders hit suddenly people think it's ridiculous.

Technically, it still does take suggestions now since their new hire was the guy that led the modded client, and he's working on making what was a modded client more or less official. That dude is singlehandedly pulling that game up out of the water. Man, the glory days of that game were glorious. Also, jump ship is an in dev game that looks to the community quite a bit. Found that game recently, but I haven't done any suggestions for that one.

You do realize they started with less than 50 people took nearly a decade to get to 600 or so working on the game all while having to entirely rebuild the game engine and netcode from the ground up right? See thing is in 2012 there was no good game engine they settled with cry engine and found very quickly the amount of issues it had. Later amazon paid for a license roughly 50-70 million and spent many years rebuilding the engine to the lumberyard engine which star citizen and sq42 transfered to. Which also meant basically rebuilding the game which they did again as they make the star engine heavily modifying the lumberyard engine because it was so lacking in what they needed especially on the backend which is where the issues arise. Also unlike most other games when you load in everything is loaded in litterally everything there's no other loads screens and the scale is always larger than any other game map entirely.. the planets alone are larger than most game maps if not all game maps and have no load screens. So unless you find a magical tech that can actually run currently 100 players without issues with the level of detail scale and so on you'd have a technology the entire damn world would want. That's being built and was shown as functional despite it being only a theory decades earlier.. props to spatial on for being ahead in 2017 despite its failure to function well in any game.

I have been watching Star Citizen's development since 2013. I love what I saw so much that I saved money for it. In 2020 I spent every dime I had saved for Star Citizen and got my first game pack. Then this Invictus, I got my dream fleet of 28 ships.

I still consider star citizen vaporware. It has had the longest development time in history for any game, and the budget is insane too and they only barely put out anything and STILL want more money. Glad i saw it for what it was way back then, and still feel that way now.

Oh how Id love to see your reaction to the most recent trailer of Squadron 42. The server persistence has to be the thing that drew my eye to star citizen. I was never too into playing until the trailer came out and I got to see videos of the... citizencon (?) Where they had shown the tech working live. I'm not in the field of tech, in fact I work on Airframes, but since I was a young kid I would always find ways to learn about technology, more specifically computer software/hardware. I felt like a kid again going through the server persistence tech demo. I felt like I did when I got my first job at 16 and used whatever remained of my paycheck on server trays and stacks, making and coding crude lines of code to host my own personal games or to localize my data. After the tech demo I actually decided to try the game in its current state and got blown away but how much you ACTUALLY CAN do in the game. I even got involved in a guild of sorts that hosts raids and found a whole atmosphere of living that casual players never try to find. Traders, contraband runners, PvP mercs, police forces, bounty hunters, clan bases, ship stealing, weapon running, clan wars. Even someone doing some space trucking is actually part of the greater scope, I mean I have terrorized quite a few haulers after I realized how ludicrous it can be instead of hauling myself. When SQ42 releases I will buy it, when the PU is server persistant: I will take a week of PTO to play it with some of my close friends. Give it a genuine try. If you understand backend, frontend or just have technical knowledge then you shouldnt see it possible to even have the game exist, nevermind be in such a healthy state

Pyro has never been given a date; simply showcases on progress and planets. The closest they've given for Pyro is "4.0; Road to Pyro". They communicate in mostly what is being worked on and progression in various areas other than release dates for any features. That's part of the reason the 'scam' narrative is so easy for people to buy into. Unless you really care about Star Citizen you won't be in the loop about any of that. You have to actively go looking.

Well, I feel they don't want to admit it's a scam because they have invested a lot of money in it. If Starfield had a good release (and it actually has a release date, unlike SC), the only way for SC to prove they aren't a scam is to kick things into high gear & have show actual progress & a release date itself. Otherwise just releasing new ships is not going to keep the crowd.
why do ppl keep comparing starfield and SC starfield is no where near the same experience of SC there two different things. Secondly SC has just achieved groundbreaking technology that no other game has achieved (PES) . Star citizen isn’t a scam it was horribly mismanaged that’s all. They promised a lot but pushes deadlines back and fourth but they are getting some content out at least and the game is actually fun. I was a ex ED and Tarkov player and I can assure you that SC is doing a wayyyyyyy better job at providing entertainment than those two. ED is great but tarkov is borderline dog shit at this point. All three of them are big rpg wannabes.

Just a friendly reminder that "$0.5B in funding" is spread out over 12 years, 7 of active development, the rest on Crytek being petty, so that's around $42mil a year. That funding isn't just for development costs but ALL operating costs for CIG. Just to put that into perspective, Take Two Interactive had an operating cost of $0.7B in 2018 alone steadily increasing to $1.5B by last year... $0.5B isn't a lot especially when it's over 12 bloody years of operation for an entire fecken studio.

I gauge every game I play on a scale of money sownt vs time played/enjoyment had. I have spent hundreds on games like league of legends and star citizen yet have thousands of hours on each game. I've payed 60 dollars for games I have barely played for a couple hours. The best thing about star citizen is there is so much potential and so many things promised to supports that it makes you so excited to see the progress they make. Ps don't listen the the children that have a couple disconnects and say it's terrible. Yest it happens but there is so much cool stuff you miss out on

i paid into starcitizen 10 years ago. bought a freelancer starter pack. took years before i could even fly it. in the early days, it felt a little like a scam, or an overpromise under deliver situation. but they kept working on it, and now its more of a game than many AAA fully released titles. rough around the edges, yes, with clunky interaction mechanics etc. but you can tell there is a method to the madness. they are not worried about details until its time to polish. what they are doing on the back end is building apps within the development environment to make creating new content as quick and painless as possible, so that once everything is in place, we will see rapid expansion of content with relative stability. im looking forward to the future.
I've put over 2k since they started funding. Knowing full well something could happen and I'd never get to play it. I knew going in it could take decades due to them saying they have a huge undertaking and the tech doesn't exist. I fund it because i believe in the project and have not been disappointed.

I literally have 3000 hours in World of Warships and nearly $1500 spent for dumb ships and upgrades that have been power crept into uselessness and literally watching that company releasing updates that are objectively ruining the game. These are fantastic simulation/Arcady military games that are designed to rob you of your fucking money (now, at least). So I bought my starter Pack in 2021 and didn't play till not because my PC was too bad. This was exactly what I said in the Game Chat yesterday and some kind stranger decided to gift me 6.000.000 aUEC. Now I went from Aurora MR to Constellation Phoenix still being a complete Newbie. Definitely not a scam, there's a lot of fun to have and a lot of things to get ingame.

The people that say Star Citizen is a scam are those types of gamers that cant form their own opinions about something and just parrots whatever someone else has said in the past. This is coming from someone who has never played star citizen and dont plan on playing it anytime soon. "Scam" means theyre lying and/or tricking you. There is no lies or tricks in Star Citizen. They tell you up front what you're getting into, and the free fly events allows you to play the game for free to test out if you would want to pay for the game or not. There are many other AAA games coming out nowadays that fits the definition of a "scam" more than Star Citizen.
Not all but true! I bought a starter pack for 40 bucks and have over 600 hours in the game now haha. Not only are there multiple free fly events throughout the year but even if you buy the anything you have 30 days to refund. On Steam you get 2 hours of in-game time lol
To be fair they are doing seamless online multiplayer with very good graphics and a giant world, it kinda hasn't been done before and still isn't being done anywhere else... If it is ever going to be playable and do what it's meant to do is a second thing. I'm honestly not worried about the game getting "finished", more than server technology being able to run it in the first place when enough people come online or whether the entire game grinds to a full stop as we saw with other popular mmos. With the amount of players currently playing the servers should have no issues whatsoever period.

@@moebeans72 and you're right, the one thing I feel they have really failed to do is communicate the nature of the project. For example the specific stats, their own history, how the Kickstarter evolved (seeing as it's "always the first time for someone watching") esp in comparison to other games of similar scale.
Plus the fact we don't get a more detailed overview of the layers of the project and how things are decided and developed. I think half the appeal of the project is showing us how the sausage is made, but I just haven't been seeing any of that until the most recent ISCs, and even then...
I also think it's probably because they didn't hire a PR team, when they absolutely should've. Certainly have a group of backers provide feedback before they try something new and drastic.

There has only been 1-2 games that have listened to my support or recommendations. One of which is Star Citizen. It's what people want but when the consequences of not relying on a parent company or shareholders hit suddenly people think it's ridiculous.

Technically, it still does take suggestions now since their new hire was the guy that led the modded client, and he's working on making what was a modded client more or less official. That dude is singlehandedly pulling that game up out of the water. Man, the glory days of that game were glorious. Also, jump ship is an in dev game that looks to the community quite a bit. Found that game recently, but I haven't done any suggestions for that one.

You do realize they started with less than 50 people took nearly a decade to get to 600 or so working on the game all while having to entirely rebuild the game engine and netcode from the ground up right?
See thing is in 2012 there was no good game engine they settled with cry engine and found very quickly the amount of issues it had. Later amazon paid for a license roughly 50-70 million and spent many years rebuilding the engine to the lumberyard engine which star citizen and sq42 transfered to. Which also meant basically rebuilding the game which they did again as they make the star engine heavily modifying the lumberyard engine because it was so lacking in what they needed especially on the backend which is where the issues arise.
Also unlike most other games when you load in everything is loaded in litterally everything there's no other loads screens and the scale is always larger than any other game map entirely.. the planets alone are larger than most game maps if not all game maps and have no load screens.
So unless you find a magical tech that can actually run currently 100 players without issues with the level of detail scale and so on you'd have a technology the entire damn world would want.
That's being built and was shown as functional despite it being only a theory decades earlier.. props to spatial on for being ahead in 2017 despite its failure to function well in any game.

I have been watching Star Citizen's development since 2013. I love what I saw so much that I saved money for it. In 2020 I spent every dime I had saved for Star Citizen and got my first game pack. Then this Invictus, I got my dream fleet of 28 ships.

Oh how Id love to see your reaction to the most recent trailer of Squadron 42. The server persistence has to be the thing that drew my eye to star citizen. I was never too into playing until the trailer came out and I got to see videos of the... citizencon (?) Where they had shown the tech working live. I'm not in the field of tech, in fact I work on Airframes, but since I was a young kid I would always find ways to learn about technology, more specifically computer software/hardware. I felt like a kid again going through the server persistence tech demo. I felt like I did when I got my first job at 16 and used whatever remained of my paycheck on server trays and stacks, making and coding crude lines of code to host my own personal games or to localize my data.
After the tech demo I actually decided to try the game in its current state and got blown away but how much you ACTUALLY CAN do in the game. I even got involved in a guild of sorts that hosts raids and found a whole atmosphere of living that casual players never try to find. Traders, contraband runners, PvP mercs, police forces, bounty hunters, clan bases, ship stealing, weapon running, clan wars. Even someone doing some space trucking is actually part of the greater scope, I mean I have terrorized quite a few haulers after I realized how ludicrous it can be instead of hauling myself.
When SQ42 releases I will buy it, when the PU is server persistant: I will take a week of PTO to play it with some of my close friends. Give it a genuine try. If you understand backend, frontend or just have technical knowledge then you shouldnt see it possible to even have the game exist, nevermind be in such a healthy state

Pyro has never been given a date; simply showcases on progress and planets. The closest they've given for Pyro is "4.0; Road to Pyro".

That's part of the reason the 'scam' narrative is so easy for people to buy into. Unless you really care about Star Citizen you won't be in the loop about any of that. You have to actively go looking.

If Starfield had a good release (and it actually has a release date, unlike SC), the only way for SC to prove they aren't a scam is to kick things into high gear & have show actual progress & a release date itself.
Otherwise just releasing new ships is not going to keep the crowd.
why do ppl keep comparing starfield and SC starfield is no where near the same experience of SC there two different things. Secondly SC has just achieved groundbreaking technology that no other game has achieved (PES) . Im not closed to criticism but star citizen is an experience that you cant really find anywhere else and it isnt easy to create something like this.

Star citizen isn’t a scam it was horribly mismanaged that’s all. They promised a lot but pushes deadlines back and fourth but they are getting some content out at least and the game is actually fun. I was a ex ED and Tarkov player and I can assure you that SC is doing a wayyyyyyy better job at providing entertainment than those two. ED is great but tarkov is borderline dog shit at this point. All three of them are big rpg wannabes.

No other studio has been as transparent with development from day one. There's a lot to consider, there are plenty of games that are much smaller in scope, that took just as long.

Just a friendly reminder that "$0.5B in funding" is spread out over 12 years, 7 of active development, the rest on Crytek being petty, so that's around $42mil a year. That funding isn't just for development costs but ALL operating costs for CIG. Just to put that into perspective, Take Two Interactive had an operating cost of $0.7B in 2018 alone steadily increasing to $1.5B by last year... $0.5B isn't a lot especially when it's over 12 bloody years of operation for an entire fecken studio.

I gauge every game I play on a scale of money sownt vs time played/enjoyment had. I have spent hundreds on games like league of legends and star citizen yet have thousands of hours on each game. I've payed 60 dollars for games I have barely played for a couple hours. The best thing about star citizen is there is so much potential and so many things promised to supports that it makes you so excited to see the progress they make.
Ps don't listen the the children that have a couple disconnects and say it's terrible. Yest it happens but there is so much cool stuff you miss out on

i paid into starcitizen 10 years ago. bought a freelancer starter pack. took years before i could even fly it. in the early days, it felt a little like a scam, or an overpromise under deliver situation. but they kept working on it, and now its more of a game than many AAA fully released titles. rough around the edges, yes, with clunky interaction mechanics etc. but you can tell there is a method to the madness. they are not worried about details until its time to polish. what they are doing on the back end is building apps within the development environment to make creating new content as quick and painless as possible, so that once everything is in place, we will see rapid expansion of content with relative stability. im looking forward to the future.

I've put over 2k since they started funding. Knowing full well something could happen and I'd never get to play it. I knew going in it could take decades due to them saying they have a huge undertaking and the tech doesn't exist.
I fund it because i believe in the project and have not been disappointed.

I literally have 3000 hours in World of Warships and nearly $1500 spent for dumb ships and upgrades that have been power crept into uselessness and literally watching that company releasing updates that are objectively ruining the game.
That game has felt like an actual scam. I was || this fucking close to getting War Thunder too! These are fantastic simulation/Arcady military games that are designed to rob you of your fucking money (now, at least).

Star Citizen may be an unrealistic project, with lack of direction and pipeline. But it is not a scam. It's pretty obvious that this sort of project gobbles up money.
It's not a scam, just a failed execution that has gone too far in the wrong direction to salvage. Stat Citizen development have completely lost sight of what is important in a game. Little cosmetics mean nothing if the immersion, story telling, pacing and community foundation aren't established. They keep trying to fine tune the frosting when they don't even have a cake. The gaming disappointment of the decade, for two decades in a row now.

Were tired of the trash development. The people making the ships, planets, cities, pretty much anything you see are amazing at they're work. Its hands down one of the prettiest games ever, then you have the people actually taking these gorgeous assets and screw everything up. The coders need to go.

So I bought my starter Pack in 2021 and didn't play till not because my PC was too bad. This was exactly what I said in the Game Chat yesterday and some kind stranger decided to gift me 6.000.000 aUEC. Now I went from Aurora MR to Constellation Phoenix still being a complete Newbie. Definitely not a scam, there's a lot of fun to have and a lot of things to get ingame.
COD and Sports games are more of a scam than this will ever be.

The people that say Star Citizen is a scam are those types of gamers that cant form their own opinions about something and just parrots whatever someone else has said in the past.
This is coming from someone who has never played star citizen and dont plan on playing it anytime soon. "Scam" means theyre lying and/or tricking you. There is no lies or tricks in Star Citizen. They tell you up front what you're getting into, and the free fly events allows you to play the game for free to test out if you would want to pay for the game or not.
There are many other AAA games coming out nowadays that fits the definition of a "scam" more than Star Citizen.

I bought a starter pack for 40 bucks and have over 600 hours in the game now haha. Not only are there multiple free fly events throughout the year but even if you buy the anything you have 30 days to refund. On Steam you get 2 hours of in-game time lol

To be fair they are doing seamless online multiplayer with very good graphics and a giant world, it kinda hasn't been done before and still isn't being done anywhere else...
If it is ever going to be playable and do what it's meant to do is a second thing. I'm honestly not worried about the game getting "finished", more than server technology being able to run it in the first place when enough people come online or whether the entire game grinds to a full stop as we saw with other popular mmos. With the amount of players currently playing the servers should have no issues whatsoever period.
