My brother owned both of these bikes. The CBX on his 17th birthday then the 1300 when he was 18, back in 1980/81. The engine notes of both are still very vivid in my head, but hearing and seeing them together is just awesome. Great video.

I used to have a 75 Honda cb-400f With a 4 into 1 Kerner exhaust system on it , and every every once in awhile I'd remove the inner core in the megaphone /rear part just to hear its unbelievable exhaust howl that you could hear blocks away 🤣 Never made it run better but damn that KERKER HOWL sure did sound AWESOME 👌 😎
You might have been viewed as the most bad ass, but if you had a Suzuki GS1100E, you were the 'actual', real -life, most bad ass person in town. Even if people didn't realize it, they just weren't in the know is all. GS1100E was the fastest production bike in '80, 81' and '83. And I had one. I sneered at both the CBX and Kawasaki 1300!!
Y'all make great videos with great bikes! I love that you include great metric bikes like these 2 and the Kaw 1000! Hopefully I'll ride up this summer.
Looking at performance specs of the time, the two bikes ran nearly neck to neck in the quarter mile, with the CBX just edging out the KZ1300 by a couple tenths of a second. The KZ1300 has 15 more HP and 22 lb/ft more torque than the CBX. But the water cooling added more than 100 pounds of additional wet weight to the KZ1300 which made things break more or less even.
Mark If memory serves me right the z1300 was 0 to 60....3 sec. The one thing i didn't like ( CBX ) was the tricky cam chains Cam to cam then one to the crank . Soon goes of tune.
@@Mr75044 I have seen claims for both having 3.0 second 0-60. And just like all the claims by average riders their V-Max could do high 10's, I would say "not with you on it". The CBX has 5 chains total. And the jackshaft and two oil pumps. But I'd say engine and carburetor work on the KZ1300 was more a pain than the CBX because the CBX was air cooled and easier to access and remove from the chassis. I'd rather work on a CBX than even a SOHC CB750, anytime.

I remember my friend Billy hall had a Z1300 kawasaki, I had a RD350lc at the time, I couldn't believe how heavy the Z1300 was, rare beast as well, the cbx was an amazing bike to see, that big wide 6cyl unit, bikes had character back in the 80s
As a multiple CBX owner since 1984 that street raced against all of the superbikes of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's, until retiring my early production (built in May of 78) 1st CBX from that abuse, I can say the CBX was noticeably quicker and sounded better than the KZ, but the1300 had 5 mph more top speed in stock trim. The later CBX engines (ones built with the spiral cylinder studs) didn't make as much peak horsepower as the early ones, though. The CBX's performance was also very sensitive to overheating and it would quickly overheat in any kind of slow speed operation in traffic.
I remember buying my 1st bike which was a Z250 scorpion in the early 80s and there was a Z1300 in the showroom I have a K1600 now but the sound off the Z1300 is epic
Both bikes are real spine tingling machines just on the scream alone. But both are monsters in weight too for a regular rider machine. Id like to hear a modified V-max with open carbs and a V&H to see how it compares? All in all a tuned Kawasaki Eliminator 900 would be the big bike for me I think. You cant do your shopping on a CR or KX125.
I'm a 62 year young honda fan....I have several older bad ass bikes.... we're redoing an 82 Yamaha seca Turbo naked bike now.....and I love the cbx 1100....! But that law is rediculously bad ass....! And I love the drive shaft.....!!! What a beast...!!
I love 2 strokes the sound and smell is the best feeling ever I’m currently collecting a few bikes myself nothing of this magnitude however I get the same smile on my face every time I fire one up 😊
Hey, it's called the CBX because it's closer to a 1000cc =X, not 1100 Plus 24 valve against a 12 valve. True the 12 valve is liquid cooled, but so does twice as many valves. One was a sport bike the other one was painted like one. 81 And 82, was a sport touring bike shaft drive with the mono shock. However the 79 and 80, with twin shocks, or shorter, theoretically allowing you to lean less at the same speed. I saw very few naked kz1300 s. Most of them cruise around like motorhomes, with drivetrain lash from the shaft. Just saying........

It was black, with House of kolors striping. Had 185 PSI across the board. Never could get a set of mikuni's to work with it. So I went back to the Khine carbs with the dynojet kit. It would out pull the kz1000s As long as I didn't have to sit there and overheat. Grew up in Indio, CA. Right at sea level!!!! It went 2 to 5 years, 0 precipitation!!! I grew up on motorcycles. So enlighten me........

The sound of both of those sixes opening up together sounds really quite exotic these days , that z1300 sounds more brutal than the frantic scream of the cbx , you can tune a z1300 motor a lot more than a cbx too .
Learn to tune. My CBX has forged pistons, h-beam like rods, and nitrous. No problems with tune at all. Helps not using factory carbs. Kawasaki really showed up to compete with that KZ1300. No doubts, and tuned like my CBX, it would out power my CBX.
I was told by a Kawasaki mechanic that the KZ 1300 was originally supposed to be a touring bike but it never really caught on. But it sure was a helluva fast motorcycle.

Those are two of my favorite bikes. The Honda sounds so gorgeous but the Kawasaki has that classic timeless beauty.

I had a 1974, CB 750(4) in high school. It had 4 into 1 exhaust with no baffle, Loud as hell and I loved it.

Rode the CBX from 78 to 82 . What an awesome bike. Bought the CB 1300 but I miss the cbx
I grew up in the 70s and had a KZ 1100, Reworked carbs and headers. I can't imagine someone getting on one and being surprised that they are fast

In the day 1966 I bought a Suzuki x6 hustler 250, the fastest production bike of its era. 🥰 I'm now 75 and riding a kymco super 8 ! 🥰
