    My thoughts:
    * 200m intervals is probably optimal for how long you can comfortably hold maximum speed
    * if you're on a slight hill, get someone to drive you back up
    * start sprinting before you start timing
    * taking long breaks seems useful. Either 4-5 intervals with an hour break, or splitting overnight

    Initially I thought what a fun challenge, maybe I'll try it myself. Then came the realization of just exactly how long it takes to cheat a 5k, and I thought maybe not! Even so I would love to see a Strava group set up just to see how fast someone can cheat the distance.

    This is a cool challenge. I think it would be good to do this in a different way also where you each have to do the same distances like say you all have to do 5 x 100m, 5 x 200m, 1 x 1000m… etc to make up 5km but you can do the distances in which ever order you prefer.

    100m sprints on a gentle decline with 2-3 minute recovery or until your heart rate dips enough. Take a 30 minute rest between each 10 reps. Keep the legs loose by just walking around for those 30 minutes. Hydrate and fuel just to be safe. Depending on the high and low temps of the day, pick a start time based on that.

    I think I would do it in 200 meter segments where you can be quite quick but have a tolerable number of reps, 25. I don't know the best rest interval, because I think waiting too long would result in sore legs. Maybe half in the evening and half in the morning would be doable.

  • @jonathantsou9255
    @jonathantsou9255 7 месяцев назад

    Not a fan of cheating your watch (or at all), but since this is in GOOD FUN, to answer Sarah's question:
    My tactic would be to run 100m intervals on a CRUISE SHIP! The GPS really messes up the pace measurement depending on the direction you're facing. You get like 1min/km at sea, plus you dont have to spend all day on the challenge!
    That said, whoever came up with this challenge found a great way to motivate folks to run INTERVALS!

    • @moosemafia
      @moosemafia 7 месяцев назад

      The GPS messes up pace measurement depending on the direction you're facing? So if I were to run opposite the Earth's rotation could I get a marginally faster time?

    • @jonathantsou9255
      @jonathantsou9255 7 месяцев назад

      @@moosemafia direction of the boat, not direction of the satellite. Sorry for the confusion. Basically, observe your pace while in a moving vehicle like a bus or train, it will be inaccurate.
      I use cruise ship instead of car or train because cruise ships have jogging tracks around part of the circumfrence of the boat, so you get strides per minute, some variation in your stride as the boat rocks, and an elevated heart rate. Also I think some runners, such as "it's Matt b" have already noticed this drawback while diligently training on vacation.
      I am going to try to explain what I mean by marginally faster or slower. The speed of a boat is comparable to a car on a road, let's say 60 km/h (ie 1min/km). I run roughly 10 km/h. So if I run from the aft (back) to forward (front), I'm reading as 70 km/h (1min/km).
      Finally, I believe GPS satellites are geostationary, meaning they maintain orbit at the same position above the earth even as it rotates, so I don't think readings vary based on whether you are facing west or east. That said, you could find out for sure!
      All this long-winded ramble is to say if you're on a moving vehicle, like a cruise ship with a jogging track, your GPS watch doesn't know you're in or on a vehicle. Your watch is going to think you're flying along open ocean like Peter the Apostle walking on water, but also faster and longer than Florence Griffith Joyner! I hope that clarifies this cheat a bit!

    Quick thought before watching beyind the fourth minute: 50 all-out sprints is madness, except if done in more than one sitting (day). 1k reps are too long for even the fastest of them to be at their anaerobic threshold. I would expect the best strategy to be with whomever runs 2 minute max effort intervals downhill. This could amount, since they are much faster than me, to a feasible sub 9 reps. I would also expect the recovery between those to be easily in the 10 minute range, for a total workout time of about 90 minutes.

    • @SubtleForces
      @SubtleForces 7 месяцев назад

      OK, My mistake - I was assuming they didn't have the whole 24 hours but would be literally doing it in a sitting. If you can spend hours on it, 100m intervals might be a good idea
