@ here’s my take, 99.9% of the creators will not have their projects projected onto a 40’ screen in their lifetime let alone, work in a film with a massive budget that will allow them to rent the most expensive primes. My work(I’ve been doing this for 30+ years) it being watched on phones, tablets, and uncalibrated computer screens. All of which are out of my control. Rokinons will look great under these circumstances-the Athena’s look a bit better. The Athena’s are sharper, a bit better contrast, and are built very well for their size(I can carry them on my cart without taking a lot of room. As long as NISI can keep the cost down, I’ll continue to buy newer focal lengths. They need a 100mm macro and a 150mm to really complete the set. Any word?
Custom sets are always useful, but a nightmare for the brand and dealers with stocking & pricing which is why most brands don't do it. If you get in touch though, we can build a custom set for you buy ordering the individual lenses & a case and giving a discount for buying all at the same time.
@@nickmillen8367 Ah OK, I'll look at that. I was considering the PL mount and adapting it as I've heard it will give more options in the future with the lens. But I'm unsure of using a lens adapted Vs non adapted, is there a change in quality?
@@jameshenry6855 just go for the PL version, you can use in much more cameras as well as it will be much easier to sell in the future. No difference in image quality at all.
You could ask the very same question for 24 vs 28mm. Some people use the middle focal length between two focal lengths as a substitute for both, i.e. a 40mm instead of 35mm and 50mm or a 28mm instead of 24mm and 35mm. For me, it is not about reach but about the look of that particular field of view.
@@jameshenry6855 I'm a 80% time manual operating, off Cinemod and PL mounts. 20% are Autofocus on Sony. Those lens don't exhibits a look that would make me jump on them. It not neutral, its pretty boring.
We got our Athena Primes from ProAV. Great lenses and great customer service from ProAV!
Sniped a nisi used NIFTY FIFTY e-mount for less than $900 USD after tax… I’m very satisfied
I should make a video "Why the ProAV TV is currently my most popular RUclips channel" 😇
Thanks!
2:49 I’ve also shot for an arboriculturist company… 85mm prime on a cropped sensor came in very handy for the climbing shots 🤩
Well shot, very informative. Thank you
Great find!
I have a full set, They never leave my Burano/FX3/FX9/RED/Arri!!! We put them on a projector and they are sharp as a tack!!! Best value on the market.
Fantastic to hear!
We have many customers who are just as happy

I wish they had a custom set where I could do 18,25,40,85

The Breakthrough Glass DFM will work with PL mount Athena’s
How does it compares to Arles?
Would have got some, but they cant be used with a rear nd adapter
Some can, some can't. As they are so small, some of them extend different lengths past the PL mount, you can see it in the B-Roll in this video
The only one I know of that works is the Breakthrough Glass DFM. This has been confirmed
It is a wonderful lens in such a small body.
I wonder if the Thypoch Simera-Cs or Zeiss Nano Primes may be coming for that crown.
Unfortunately those sets are both mirrorless only.
That means no Arri, and no higher market value.
zeiss are much more expensive and no PL mount not a direct comparison
I can never find shops that stock the L Mount version.
PROAV can order them for you. The leadtime is around 2-3 weeks

@@jameshenry6855buy the PL version. Smarter investment and better resale value if you upgrade later.

@@jameshenry6855 Be careful if using an adapter, as the rear of the PL mount moves in and out. It's mentioned in some other RUclips videos.
Not a complaint, but i do find it funny they include a 40mm
Is there ever a reason anyone would go far that over a 35 for a few more inches of reach?

If I could only have one lens. It would be a 40.. by far one of the most reached for focal length
I don't get the point of those lens especially on Sony camera.
Manual lenses are not for your type of work so 👍

Nothing wrong with autofocus lenses, but if you work with a team then you want cine lenses. IYKYK
They have zero character or micro contrast though :/
That's the best part, you can add character if needed.
Fk "character"... lazy way for content creators to say a bad lens is unique 🤡
