This is the second time to use the name ‘Isle of Inishfree’ on the Irish Ferries fleet. The first one was a brand new ferry built for Irish Ferries in the mid 1990s. It was used on the Dublin to Holyhead route from about 1995 to 1997, when it was replaced by another new ferry, Isle of Inishmore. The Isle of Inishfree was put on the Rosslare to Pembroke service then from 1997 to 2001 when the Isle of Inishmore was moved down to this route because of that ship being replaced by the Ulysses on the Dublin to Holyhead route in 2001. The former Isle of Inishfree is now used by Interislander Ferries in New Zealand to go between the north and south islands.

@@europa2000man Hi. Thanks for watching. Actually she is the third ship. The original is now the Stena Nautica. A blog of her with deck plans of when she was the Innisfree can be found here, though the company was in the transition between B&I Line and Irish Ferries:

@@A2BviaSeaonTV I completely forgot the B&I Line one. That one only lasted about two or three years before it was replaced (the same time B&I Line was taken over by Irish Ferries). Before this, Irish Ferries was only running ferries to the continent (originally called Irish Continental Lines). The mid to late 90s was a big time for change for the ferries on the Irish Sea. Sealink was renamed Stena Sealink Line and then around 1995 or 1996 it was changed to just Stena Line, along with the introduction of the HSS hovercraft Stena Explorer in around 1997 replacing the St Columba (then renamed Stena Hibernian) on the Dun Laoghaire to Holyhead run. Normal ferries for Stena Line started running from Dublin Port in 1995 (I know that because I remember seeing a sign at the Dublin Port Terminal that they were celebrating 20 years of running ferries from there back in 2015). Now since the HSS Stena Explorer stopped running completely (around 2015 too), ferries running to and from Dun Laoghaire is history. The HSS has the same legacy as concord. It was supposed to be the future of fast sea travel and now it’s just a memory.
