    As soon as they did those transitions from boys to men, I was like Biiiiiiiish, BET gots money! lol They did that. I didn't know that Ralph was offered to go solo first, man he's loyal, wouldn't be a New Edition if not for him. If it had been Bobby, we'd have never heard of NE lol I was waiting on this review at the door 😄

      Maurice Starr also tried to keep them from using New Edition when they left Streetwize. The lawyers they used to get off of Streetwize were the same dudes that became Jump & Shoot Production. In the series they were called Fast Break Productions. Gary Evans was based on 3-4 different people.

    How the hell was they supposed to split $1.87 five ways? And why did none of the mothers took legal action? Instead of putting the blame on Brook, they should've gotten a lawyer and sue.

    • @FlyiDCG
      @FlyiDCG 5 лет назад

      There was litigation. They skipped over it. NE sued Streetwize Records. Maurice also countered saying the NE name was his. The Gary Evans character was based on one of the lawyers that got them off Streetwize. They don’t show that in the series.

    One of my friends went to see New Edition when they made "You're Not My Girl", and my friends are grown ass women. She had seen everybody, Michael Jackson, Prince, EWF, everybody. She said that New Edition threw down. She said they did one of Michael Jackson's songs and she said their steps were awesome. She said one of the best shows she had seen was New Edition (this was in the late '80s). She said they had Michael Jackson showmanship and that the show was sold out.

    I absolutely loved this miniseries!!! I'm the same age as the group and they had the clothes, the music and with the exception of Maurice Starr's hair the hair. I must say they were some nasty little 13-15 year old kids. When they hit, they hit big. Little girls & teenagers flipped out like Jackson 5 mania. This just brought back middle/high school memories. Can't wait for parts 2-3.

    Yes most of the movie is the actor's original vocals and that's for the adults and the littles. In fact Babyface, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis recreated the music that's why the production is similar but if you listen more carefully it sounds a little different.

    What I love most about New Edition is this: It's 2017, all members are alive and healthy....who saw Bobby almost being 50 years old???? These guys chose to be brothers for life......the only other successful group that started as kids was J5, New Edition was the result when combining the best of The Temptations and the Jackson Five with that legendary Motown training and of course fusing the new style of hip-hop brewing. They will never get old. My bro in law (from that generation, I was a 80s/90s kid, gotta see if my sis saw it yet) loved them. He would've loved the miniseries....right now he up top helping his hometown team (mine too) get ready for the Super Bowl (ATL) RIP Bo.

    I loved it! I am a product of the early 70s but new edition stayed playing in my household when they arrived. I appreciate getting to see what happened behind the scenes with the group and hope the next 2 episode go a little further and give us something we didn't already know. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and can't wait for the other episodes.
    sidenote: I sure hope there will be a soundtrack to download... Music was all that.
    Be Blessed!

    New Edition was right on my time, lol. I'm old. And of course I missed the first ep, but Anyway. I wanna say I remember drama about that hose incident but not sure. I was a HUGE Bobby fan so interested to see how he split, especially knowing he actually became a hit. They all did well as solo artists (and when BBD started) but they were so cute and 'innocent' with stuff like Mr. Telephone Man, etc. I gotta find a rerun of this. Great review.

      Being someone also from your era, I gotta tell you, you're going to love it! It really takes you back. When you see how well they paid attention to the visual details of the time, the clothes, etc., it's going to crack you up, even LaLa's mushroom

      Nita Nichelle LOL a Beta WAS a VCR, but the even funnier/shadier part is that format was pretty useless cuz VHS was the major format in the US. IOW they couldn't really use what they got "paid" with!

      Hahaha, right. Hardly anyone had beta. I had a friend who's parents had a beta VCR and she was always mad because when her parents went to rent movies for her and her siblings most of the movies didn't come in beta and she would have to come to my house to watch VHS movies lol.

    You were right about Bobby jumping on a solo deal if it would have been offered to him. Eventually, Bobby was approached for a solo deal. At the same time, the same ppl offering Bobby the solo deal (at the label) were pushing the other group members (and their parents) to kick Bobby out of the group. Notice the short turn around time on his first solo record? His solo deal was already on the table.

    This was the best biopic I've ever watched. Everything about it was so good - the casts, acting, performances, and especially the story. The best part of Part 1 for me was when they transitioned from boys to teenagers - amazing. I've never seen that done before on television? BET and New Edition should all get awards!!! I enjoyed your review!

    • @AshleyMillerTV
      @AshleyMillerTV  7 лет назад +4

      So they wasted money out that $500 on those bikes? Now, see...

    • @verballynonverbal
      @verballynonverbal 7 лет назад

      Ashley Miller Come on. They were kids in the projects. They probably dreamed of just simply having a bike. At least they wouldn't have to ride the bus or walk because I doubt they had cars if they didn't have lunch money.

    • @AshleyMillerTV
      @AshleyMillerTV  7 лет назад +5

      Kids don't need cars that they can't drive yet. Secondly, projects or not, aim higher. Third, $500 isn't much now and it wasn't much then. Fourth, Mothers should've read and inquired more given that they are trying to get out said projects

    • @verballynonverbal
      @verballynonverbal 7 лет назад +4

      I was referring to the mothers probably not having cars. If the mothers do not have cars, then inevitably that means the kids are walking or taking the bus. When you lack simply things, it's really the simple things that matter the most to you. No, $500 isn't a lot. Not then and not now. If you figure they got hyped off of such a small amount of money, it should have highlighted how bad their struggle was, to be grateful for just $500. You have to understand, their mother could not even afford a rinky dink sad Charlie Brown Christmas tree on her own. She was embarrassed. The fact her KIDS did odd things in the neighborhood just to earn extra money should tell you it was scarce around there. Just the tree! Not even toys. After that you think she's gonna tell her son no you still can't have a bike after you worked your tail off touring around the world? Kid or adult, you're gonna feel like you should be able to buy whatever you want. They're just kids. A kid doesn't see things the way adults do. Their moms knew they should've been able to have more than that bike. Even TLC got cars...even though that was it. And they didn't even realize yet they should've had more to show after expenses (the same thing they told New Edition) until other ppl in the industry who knew better started clowning them. On both the Temptations and Five Heartbeats they were able to buy cars for their parents with their first big check, and this wasn't too much further up from that time period because The Jackson's were on the scene the same time the Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson were. Lastly, what in the world do people living in the projects know about reading the fine print? They don't know anything about lawyers they can't afford. Nobody really knew about the dirty side of the music business then like they do now. Their kids DID NOT HAVE LUNCH MONEY!!!!! I truly don't think you understand the mentality of a struggling person and that's why they were so susceptible to be taken advantage of. That's who you target. Either the ones who don't know any better or need it that badly that they'll be grateful for anything. If you offer a homeless man food, he is not going to say he prefers something else. He is going to take the food, eat it and be grateful because he doesn't know where his next meal is coming from nor how long it'll be before he has another one. If you missed a meal in your life or had your water, heat or lights cut off, did not even have a telephone and you or your kids went without lunch at work and school, you would be able to relate to how quickly $500 could solve those problems. $500 could pay your rent for a year in the projects, depending on public assistance, because I'm sure they were on it. I'm not coming at you. I'm just trying to get you to understand it from their side because you seem to only see it from yours. It's easy to say that from the outside looking in when you're not so broke that a dang on VCR can excite you. If you even look at the kind of loyalty Ralph had to his friends at such a young age, it should also allow you to understand the predicament that much more for him to even understand what that meant for his friends when he's advancing and they're still missing meals and they don't even have a telephone. They at least had telephones now in part 2.
