Fork Mounted Wind Deflectors - Ride review

- I installed these Harley Davidson fork mount wind deflectors a few months ago but never got to ride the bike and test them out at highway speeds So I took the bike out and tried them out in this video. The fork mounted wind deflectors block wind coming from the bottom of the forks and causing buffeting on the helmet. The results are unbelievable ! I'm truly impressed with the reduction of the wind buffeting !

For me, fairing lowers, air deflectors and the 15” HD clear windscreen and done with buffeting 100%.
I put those on my road king 3 years ago when I bought it. I almost sold the road king for the same reasons you're talking about. And wow did it make a difference because before I put them on after a while I didn't want to ride the bike anymore. Then I put those on and I wanted to ride and keep riding. I put lowers on my road king took those off but put them back on because they work better than the lowers so with the combination of those wind deflectors and the lowers is really good, Plus I really love to look of them when I had them off it looked like I was missing something it didn't look right.
The fangs made a significant difference to the buffeting on my 2020 H-D Road King.
Based on your original video I purchased the HD wind deflectors for my 2019 Road King. They work GREAT. About 95% reduction in wind buffeting, even with a windshield.
Glad you are back home and had a similar experience with the deflectors!
I love the look of those deflectors they tie in nicely with the fairing & give the bike a tougher look!👍👌
I installed that same light in my buddies bike for him. Your gonna love it, it's a great light. It's a gamechanger
Thanks for posting! I’m 6’1” and ride a ‘19 Road King. Last year I tackled the buffeting problem with similar solution as you. After a couple of windshields ended up happy with the tallest offered from Freedom and that helped a lot but still not happy. So I ran across a vid on these deflectors that I believe a rider from Australia had posted. I was a bit of a doubting Thomas that they would actually make much difference but given a low investment risk and super easy to install I got a pair and have been amazed that they not only solve the buffeting but look pretty cool too. I may actually be able to go back to a little shorter windshield but happy enough to leave well enough alone. Next I’m going to dump out of the stiff stock rear shocks and likely go with Ohlins but early on in researching shocks. Harley really needs to up their game in this area. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Thanks so much for the video, I am having the same trouble with Road King, and I have the same helmet as you. Contemplating getting these, and you confirmed that they may help.
I have them on my 2020 Heritage, and they are a night and day difference. No more washing machine head shaking
😂
I have them on my heritage as well. Did you notice how hot the engine was getting with them on? it almost made it unbearable for me
Nice to see you back in town Sandy, was running out of your videos to watch. Any rate, glad you're back and doing well. FYI, I have the same fork wind deflectors from HD on my Street Glide & they absolutely work AWESOME!.. Ride Safe & Enjoy that Freedom Machine of yours my friend. Peace
You've found the Holy Grail. A few years ago and 2 bikes back I made my own using pieces of Lexan from Home Depot and some big stainless hose clamps and 1/2" aluminum angle bars. Worked great and very rewarding to make for about $25. Like you found, they make a HUGE difference in making a "bubble of calm". I'm riding a Goldwing now and that bike is a giant wind deflector all by itself.
I run those on my 2020 FLHT and they make all the difference to me. I used plasti-dip to make mine black. It makes them blend into the bike a bit more.
great to have you back mate.you and John are so good and funny .obviously great mates giving each other therapy, love your work.
Cheers from Colorado! I just did my first Motovlog yesterday, and much respect for all that do👍🏾👍🏾!!!
Keep it up - Thanks
@@HOLYSHIFT Most definitely... You as well!!!
@@HOLYSHIFT hey everyone, I'm Lim Doyeon aka Doyeon Guitar, guitarist🎸 & musician🎶 cheers from Gwangmyeong🇰🇷. I loved your motorcycle 🏍️!
I liked your video. I have a '16 FLHTK that I bought new. Like you I was getting too much buffeting. I am 6'4" & have modified the bike to fit me. I purchased fork mounted wind deflectors from Jescustom ($105) that are designed for my bike. They make others for other models. I also installed a wind deflector ($35 kuryakin)under the triple tee. They make a huge difference! Bike does not run hot & these deflectors are a must on highway/long distance rides. Easy install with no modification. Works great with lowers as long as you order specifically for your bike. Great video & hope you don't mind my suggestion. Ride safe.
I got these between your last video and this one. Couldn't find HD ones in black so I got some off brand ones. Definitely recommend, they got rid of probably 80% of the buffeting I was having. Now waiting for the Freedomshield I ordered, thanks for the promocode👍
Agree 100%. Those fork fangs look great. I bought my Road King late last November. And honest story, I didn't even notice that the bike had them on it. So I can't speak to the effectiveness of them since they were always there. I do wonder if they rob cooling air from the cylinders though.
I’m so jealous. I need that sweet spot. Got a 2017 softail. I get headaches all the time from the buffeting. I better give these a try! Good info and I’ll ride into Harley today to get a pair.
Just installed these on my bike based on this video. Still waiting on my windsheild. Had a huge problem with buffeting with my stock street glide. Would eventually like to get a set of paint matched lowers eventually, but they are gonna be about $600, these were $60. And after just buying the bike, I'll wait a while to do the lowers.
Excellent review. I have been trying to decide how to deal with the same issue and have been researching these. I have a Road King with the clear factory wind shield. Going to give these a try in the spring. Thanks for helping.
Hi, did you give it a go? I also have a RK classic so keen to know if it helped.
Holy shift, I just realized that I’m not subscribed to this channel. Subscribed now.
Buddy- believe me, a lot of people here don’t realize that their not subscribed . Better late than never…. Thanks 🙏🏻
I've had these for awhile and yes, the work really well, 100% better but not great in hot weather, I removed my triple clamp deflector hoping I can get some air on me without ruining the effectiveness of these.
Great video! Gonna buy a set for my SGS. I agree--Freedom shields is A+
I just put these on, rode 30 miles down the highway and took them off. I feel like the front end is way less stable using the deflectors. Greatly reduced the buffering but the steering suffers in my opinion. 2020 SG
Interesting.. sometimes function is more important then looks
I've been waiting for this review since the day you installed them man. You sold me, ill be going to the dealer when they open Monday and picking these up. Thanks again Sandy, cheers, 😎😎😎
Did you get and install the Fangs and did it cure the buffeting?
@@ericjames7680 I was in an accident and haven't ridden since last summer, so that would be no I didn't get a chance to buy them an install. 🤕🤕🤕
@@cabby316 Thanks for the reply and best wishes to you!
Glad to see your back, great video
what size is you're freedomshield? i got a cheap one off amazon, it's not bad but i want more of a flare
Yes my new bike has the buffeting issue just like yours it sucks!! The good news is I am adding theses deflectors to solve the problem!! Will have them powder coated black!!
The triple tree deflector also throws more wind to your motor also.
I put them on my 2005 Road King and I totally thought they helped cut down on the rush of air that was blasting up the sides of the gas tank on both sides, hitting me in the head. I just bought a 2021 Ultra Limited and I already bought a taller Freedom shields windshield for it. The thought hadn't occurred to me that I could get them for that bike, as well.
Awesome sauce! Thats what Im.needing as well. Great install and review
Excellent video. Thank you for the information. I bought a set.
Nice video and review Sandy! I actually like the way they look as well. For some reason, I’m not getting that type of buffeting your talking about however, most of my riding is not at highway speeds so I’ll need to put it to the test and if I do get same issue, good to know you’ve found a solution through Harley. Hopefully they make them in black as well. Welcome back!
Welcome home bro! I am interested in hearing your review of a new headlamp. I am interested in replacing my stock light but can’t justify spending an arm and leg for an HD light😎
Thanks- good to be home. Install and review coming soon
Complimenti, mi hai aiutato nell acquisto , che ho fatto anche io per il mio Street Glide Special 👍👍👍, complimenti ancora.
Hey, I have a new 24 Street Glide and am noticing the same thing with the wind coming up and hitting me under the helmet. The new Street Glide does come with small fork mounted deflectors but I would love to get some larger ones it certainly needs it. Can you turn those deflectors if you do want more air on a hot day? Thank You, great video 😎👌
Hey sandy have you thought about getting the triple tree wind deflector also?
10:20 thumpin Biggie! Your stock just went up 100 points in my book!
Yeap Biggie Biggie Biggie can’t you see....
I think they look fine. Just ordered a set for my 19 road king because the buffeting on highway at 65mph+ is unbearable.
The fork mounted wind deflectors + fairing mounted wing deflectors +triple wing deflectors + soft lowers .... those 4 guys make a huge difference
Please subscribe
If it works that’s all that matters. Nice video GOD BLESS BROTHER
Welcome back Sandy! Nothing like listening to a little biggy 🤣
Wow, you heard that short clip...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I bought a used Electra Glide Classic that had wind defectors. They got some rust so I removed them. I don't notice any difference with them gone. I eliminated my helmet buffeting by shortening the windshield.
Great review. Purchasing mine tomorrow.
Where can I purchase the sedici half finger gloves like you have?
👍🏻 😆 LOL 👍🏻 - buy them full and cut them with scissors like I did....
thanks so much for the video!
I've felt around while riding to see where all the buffeting wind is coming from... I get most wind from my leg area so I can believe these work great..i need black ones
Still not available in black. Having a set powder coated for my road king special
I just bought the same windshield . I absolutely love it but my Prettier half is getting buffeting still.
Id hate to go higher with the windshield . Would these lower fork deflectors fit with Harley lowers??
Anyone experiencing heat issues of the engine or rider after installing these?
Hi and thank you for this informative video.
Would you know if the lower wind deflector is available for a 2022 Fat boy?
Welcome back Sandy..👍👍👍🇦🇺
I was wondering if you noticed if the bike ran any hotter with the fangs on or maybe just a little bit and not that bad? Some have said they work so well for the buffeting problem they run them year round anyway.
Slightly warmer! Worth it IMO !
U happen to know the HD part number had a problem with my 2009 after the frame change only solution was the fork wind deflectors only ones I see in harley site is a road king fit the ones I put on my 09 said they didn't fit a slight bend at top cleared the lower fairing plastic deflectors I have a 2021 limited cvo the wind buffering is about 90 percent less than my 09 was still have some air flowing over my thighs in cooler weather stopping that air is nice I can't find any part numbers in your descriptions
No - sorry I don’t know the part number...🥲
Has anyone had a problem with engine overheating using the wind deflectors?
Do your thighs feel more hot air from engine after installing the wind deflectors?
I’ve been through New Jersey a few times (in a truck) and I don’t stop there to get gas bc it’s illegal to pump your own gas. I’m not a fan of someone else touching my truck. Has your bike ever been scratched from some guy fueling it up?
They let bikers fill up by themselves- nobody ever filled up my tank!
@@HOLYSHIFT good deal. Thanks for the info
It really did the job, but you have installed batwing deflectors and fork mount deflectors and missed the last puzzle (triple tree deflectors) it really prevent the buffeting.
I’ve heard about that and was thinking maybe to try it . Thanks. Hope you’re subscribed
The three flowering bushes against the house would look much better if you trimmed them back...
I mean all I can say is that all these guys complaining about buffering whatever its called it really shows you haven't ridden a naked bike on the daily. a massive impact would be a change of helmet. something more aerodynamic and with more wind deflection would help. there are thousands of helmets out there to suit specific needs
So did you purchase the Harley Davidson genuine wind deflectors or did you buy the ones on Amazon?
I purchased and reviewed the Harley wind deflectors
Just ordered my “fangs” and am hoping for the same result! Side note, what radio do you have installed? Were there any modules you needed for the hand controls? I have a SG and not a fan of the 4” display
Wondering if the Fangs fixed the bad buffeting on your Street Glide? Thanks!!
@@ericjames7680 dramatically decreased the buffeting! I guess I am one of the weird sizes because most my buddies don’t have the same issue as me
@@dannyd4134 I'm not sure how it works? So many people complain about the buffeting on the Street Glide but then I see some and have talked to some that are of different heights and they say they have no problem? Go figure.
I have a problem with wind pushing my legs/feet off forward controls on my Dyna. Would these wind deflectors help with that?
I don't know about that bike..
What brand and model mirror relocation brackets are those???
Stock Harley mirrors in black. Flipped over
What bars do you have on that bike? Thanks

What size is your freedom shield and how tall are you?
9” and I’m 5-10”
11:55 turned on your what?
You might want to learn about turn signal usage
Be positive buddy 😃 teach us all over here ! Just write it .
Dont put the softlowers on your bike. It causes buffeting!
Keto will do you like the Atkinson diet. You fall off the keto, you'll pack weight back on like crazy. July '20 to March '21, I went from 344 down to 256. Went off the keto, I'm back up to 295 already. Come of that keto real slowly.
Helmet buffeting is awful...I bought a 500$ ventilator shield from harley for a fatboy lo I had one year and I had to sell it cause the buffeting was so bad....now this road king I have come with a short windshield and the buffeting is just as bad as the fatboy was. Will the side fork wind deflectors eliminate that do you think Sandy?...your bike is nice man, a cam and cam plate & oil pump upgrade would be huge on your bike man .....you don't need new jugs and all this stage 4 big cubic inch crap man, but I'd definitely do the cam upgrade tho...
The buffeting was reduced significantly with the deflectors..I believe they will help your bike too. Cam upgrade is on my list - absolutely!
@@HOLYSHIFT .....cool man! ....thanks for responding
yes, they will eliminate it, guaranteed
Who do you fly for that? You’re allowed to have a beard? I fly for spirit and I thought all US airlines were no beards allowed
