Watching this review makes me miss the late 90's, when I would walk into a gaming store, and play Soul Caliber for the first time on Dreamcast, the smell of those stores I'll never forget also. #Nostalgia.
Spot on review. I agree with all the points you brought up. I've been having a ball with SC6 on PC. There's definitely room for improvement but what's delivered in this package is solid and a blast to play. I only wish they had included a Team Battle mode. Both Tekken 7 and now SoulCalibur 6 have that mode omitted. It was my favorite way to learn different characters strengths and weaknesses. I really hope that they include it with SC6 somewhere down the line, but since they haven't done so with Tekken 7 and that's been out for a year and a 1/2 now I'm not holding my breath. Once again Easy Allies gets it right. Keep up the great work! =D
I wish more fighting games had character creators like this. It's the reason why I play this more than most fighting games as a fairly casual fighting game fan.
Great review Ben. Everything is on spot. Just hopefully the game gets more player support going forward, because Soulcalibur VI, for all its negatives, proved this series deserves to continue. I’m having a blast with it. And now even my babe 2B is coming into it, woohoo!
I was heavily invested in this franchise until SC4 on the PS3. I've always despised that things took a more "anime turn" I'm not sure if that's the way to call it, but none of the games have caught my attention since...
I think SCVI definitely has tried to return to its roots. I've also despised the more modern anime turn that the franchise took (Soul Blade had an awesome spirit, and Soul Calibur was legendary). I think SCVI is worth a look.
@@AFriendlyRobot Yeah that does seem kind of anime, but I think it's more of a 90's-style anime they were going for (it technically was part of the story when the first Soul Calibur came out). There's a lot of cultural differences that happened to Japan in the last 20 years, so at least for that time period, I think it worked. They didn't fully capture it in VI, but it might be as close as this modern generation is able to capture anyways.
I think the story in Soul Calibur VI is great. It basically retells the original Soul Calibur, which was a classic, legendary adventure (especially when you compare it to every game after, which either rehashed, meandered, or strayed from the spirit of the original). That said, I'd agree that the storytelling could have been more robust. While the art was respectable and the presentation helped with imagining a large scale story, it would have been nice to see things play out via fully-rendered cutscenes. I also felt like the new interpretation of the story, while not as angsty as previous entries, still felt a bit overly serious at times, making the lead cast of characters seem unnecessarily humorless.
I miss Lizardman but this is the best Calibur since II so I agree with a lot what Ben states. It's a great game, plenty of modes (though mostly stuck to Ranked) and the new characters fit in well.
Create a Soul mode is the most addictive thing in the game. Worth the price in my opinion. I have a couple showcases on my channel if you like custom creations! I personally love seeing everyones creations, it's my favorite part!
I feel like the core gameplay of VI is just about the best its ever been. It doesn't quite match up to SCII's overall polish, nor does it have great, fun single player structure like SCII/III. But if all you're really after is fantastic couch multiplayer and online ranked - it's phenomenal!
Now this is a familiar voice...Is this the dude that used to review for Gametrailers? Sorry if this has been answered before, I have only just discovered this channel. Far better reviewer than anyone on IGN or Gamespot.

I'm glad you gave a good review, but just because it doesn't have much voice acting in the game doesn't mean the story is Bland some people like the old school RPG elements. And I didn't mind to not being that many cutscenes because I found the artwork to be really good and the graphics in the fighting plus the really good character creation meet up for all that. But overall it was really good review
Bit late on the review ;) Soul Calibur 6 is great for the most part, the blantant dlc issue not withstanding. I'm playing the Japanese version which aside from the main menu has no bloody English, making create a soul more challenging than it should be and libre of soul pointless. Still enjoying it all the same. One thing it gets right is an individual rank per character. You are not punished for trying new people online and losing unlike SFV!
@@thecamelchannel1467 Not necessarily many Japanese games have full English text and audio. SC VI launched WW the same day. I live here and final fantasy XV for example does and that had a staggered release iirc.
the actual fighting is really good. everything else falls apart for me. the libra of souls mode feels boring and pointless, the regular story mode is so inconsequential, nothing more than a visual novel. the online on the xbox one version has been broken since day 1 with no fix in sight. there's no alternate costumes to unlock, one character to earn without buying the season pass, etc. your profile doesn't even level up like in mortal kombat x, where me and my partner can log in with our own gamertags and fight even just each other, and level up, unlock things in the krypt like new costumes, new fatalities, etc. by comparison, this game is just painfully bare-bones.
thesvc2006 they have announced fixes on twitter and you can literally customise the main characters whichever way you want who needs skins lol. Though I will agree story was a bit boring definitely should have taken a page out of netherealms games
No offense but with regards to your introduction 'dim' is a measure of illumination, not sound, so you can't be 'dimly quiet.' Something like 'for a series about burning souls, soul calibur feels like it's been on cooldown for years' would make more sense. Great review.
This review is so far off its not funny. This game is a unplayable pile of shit. Reversal esge is garbage people just spam this all day and don't even fight, it doesn't cost meter so if u got range u can spam this and there is nothing u can do. Then there is the constant loading issues and network issues, for every one match I play online u wait 10 mins then it fails u start over and now your in the network issues bug and u have to reinstall the game. This is the most broken beta pile of shit, they deserve to lose there ass and not make any more soul calibur. We waited years for this broken mess.
1:41 Ok, to whoever made Hank Hill into a fighting game character, you are amazing because that shit’s hilarious.
The propane flames lol
Is it just me or does the face look a lot like Ignis?
Ignis = young Hank Hill
Oh jeez thats who he supposed to be lol
The 2B announcement already got me excited, this review convinced me i should really consider this fighting game.

Wow this Review is amazing thx Ben and Don i love SC6 and its great to see this back on top after Tekken 7
Will pick this up when 2B comes out. I played a bit of Soul Caliber 5 but I played the shit out of 2
John Apocalypse SC II was the best one in my opinion. I wonder where sc6 falls

You aren't the only one. But I feel you can overlook the anime stuff in SC and Tekken.

Ben is so good at reviewing! His writing is some of the best! Great job and fair score!

I can now purchase this game thank you easy allies for a amazing review
Really great review Ben, once again you've proved why you're one of the best in the biz... it's just a shame it's coming like 2 weeks late.

Nice review as always Ben
I just can’t get into fighting games anymore! But thanks for keeping us informed. L&R
I am really enjoying it. You can feel the lack of budget but at its core it's a solid Soul Calibur game and up there with 1 and 2 IMO.

Yes 🙂
Create a Soul!!! People do love to say it
I tried the game at a friend's and had a ton of fun. I am thinking of buying it.
The score is a round number, but with 2B it becomes a 10.0 and so even rounder, if you understand ;).
5:30 Did Azwell just do the kuniku buster from ultimate muscle???
Bruh, $8.99 in the Microsoft store right now. I’m getting it👍🏼👍🏼
This game needs series next gen upgrade 4k 60fps
I'm happy.
Excellent review 👍🏻
Agree with you Ben!
It is a great game, but doesn't quite reach the heights of say Injustice 2 or Tekken 7.
Best review voice in the game.
Again nobody mentioned the blurred backgrounds !!!!
Think it was done to make the character s easier to focus on.
Very fair review

I still miss Link for the GCN version of Soul Caliber 2.
@Zandeus 4 had the Star Wars characters.
I miss Kratos from Broken Destiny... oh well
He didn't go anywhere. Just hook up that GameCube.

So is it called Create A Soul after all?
It's funny that he called it Create-A-Soul in the review when it's never been called that in a game.

For a fighting game its easily a 9.
why didnt they add cassandra she was in 2 and 3 just cuz they want money from ppl. Dirty pool on them

I prefer less fighters, to be honest. It is easier to get familiar with each playstyle, and easier to new comers to join the game.
