    My Soundslice courses:

    UPDATE: Thanks to Jon Garner for sending me the first commercial recording of the song which was released a year later and played in the key of Bb as opposed to the movie version of B. There are a few harmonic differences. I should have mentioned that composers / arrangers may also choose to reharmonize from version to version. For instance, the different harmonies Fats Waller used for Honeysuckle Rose. At any rate in the 1942 version, the last four bars are (transposed to Eb): Eb D7 some kind of Gm7b5, and then some unclear voicing which may not actually be C7 but something that would contain Eb F Bb on the first chorus. The recording quality is very low.. the second chorus the piano plays at least the notes F Ab Eb that I could make out. The original manuscript (which is yet another harmonization with more intricate passing chords) shows this chord as being some kind of suspended Fm chord. However, in the first commercial recording that Jon shared in a comment here, the first two of the last four bars are Eb D7 Eb Ab.

    Great teacher and great musician, first video I watched from your channel and I’m happy to have found it when listening through about 300 arrangements of the song.

    I always viewed the first eight as expanded Parker blues changes which boils down to I IV I I7 at two bars each.

    Great stuff, Denis.
    I know Barry Harris talks a lot about movement - that's his big thing. Wondering if you've ever done a dive into his stuff? I'm hesitant as he's such a bopper, and I prefer playing an earlier style, but I have also heard that it's applicable across the board, from gypsy jazz to Chopin.

    any idea where the current "standard" changes come from? I mean which recording. I know it's from Real Book version.

      @DenisChangMusic  2 года назад +1

      Not sure where the standard changes come from as there are a few tiny variations from book to book but most roughly along the same lines. I would say the irealpro version is well on its way to be the main version
