    Ethernet/IP actually isn't deterministic unless it is using CIP Sync, which they added later for the Ethernet/IP drives. Then it uses the distributed clock and managed switch strategy of ProfiNet (also deterministic). I can't remember what protocol I came across that modified packets on the fly like EtherCAT (SERCOS probably), but it's a pretty unusual way to do things that lets it have crazy fast cycle times at the cost of more chances for frame corruption. PowerLink is sort of in between EtherCAT and ProfiNet/CIP Sync in that it is poll and response, but doesn't require the managed switch stuff.

      Thanks for the info. I've never used E/IP on things that need to be deterministic, it has always been robot comms, and talking to VFDs and IO slices, etc. Good to know about CIP sync though.

    A true engineer uses paint to explain a system I get a lot of flashbacks :)

      I'm on Mac now and I use this paintbrush garbage program and wish that there was a decent Port of Ms paint for Mac

    Very nice. Will you be making more advanced videos about PLC's/Beckhoff/Structured Text etc?

      Cryptic Paradigm I likely will not. I still work in plcs, but I don't do the advanced stuff these days and I'm getting rusty. If I do another series it will probably be a bunch of 5-7min videos about field busses and protocols. Also, the more specific I get the smaller the audience gets.

    Have you ever tried to connect a Yaskawa Driver to a Beckhoff EtherCAT system? I'm trying to do this but I'm having trouble.

    • @SquishyBrained
      @SquishyBrained  4 года назад

      Yep. Do it all the time. You need the eps file from yaskawa. Beckhoff and yaskawa reps should be able to help, but hit me up if you can't work it out.

      @@SquishyBrained I'm able to see the Yaskawa thanks to an XML file I got from them but I'm unable to get the drive to home (MC_Home). I can see the OverTravel and Home switches in Beckhoff and set the drive to move to overtravel and back to home but it keeps getting stuck on the overtravel and never completing. I have the MC_Reset and MC_Power working, but any command that creates motion seems to be not completing, starts but doesn't get completion signal. I heard the Done signal is only for one cycle so I need to trap that signal?

    Hi, I really appreciate your videos and I want to know if you had worked with commissioning a third party servo motor with TC drive manager 2, I have all data needed but I don't know how to implement on software, thank you

      If you have the EDS file all you need is to get it working in NC. Once that's done the software is all the same. See the other videos from there.
