Murray Walker, what a pleasure to know the legend was also covering rallying.
Remember when he did a snooker commentary? He actually made it exciting! 😁
@@skylined5534 "Surely nothing can stop Higgins potting the black now... HE'S CRASHED!!!"
The bellow of a forest Escort in full flight, what a sound, what a memory, things just ain't the same these days.
Aye true. There was a driver called Simon McKinley who sadly perished in a hill climb event. You ought to see him piloting his frankly bonkers mk2 Escie though, driving on a knife edge!
Henri Toivonen was a special driver.
Agreed.
Tony Pond…..The legend
Why don't they have events like this anymore :(
Not many could mix it with Toivonen, but Tony Pond was also a genius. Beautifully demonstrated here by containing the time loss, with car stuck in gear for at least a quarter of the last run. Brilliant!
And what a start - Pentti blasting the tripes out of an Escort! I remember an article in Autocar in the late 80s where the Journo took some advanced driving lessons with different schools, including Pentti's left foot braking course in the car with two steering wheels. Marvellous.
Glad you enjoyed it. Some nice Pentti footage from Top Gear coming in the weeks ahead.
I’ve got that copy of Autocar up in the loft, along with the rest of what my Wife calls “the fire hazards”, (old Autocar, Autosport, Motorsport, Street Machine, Fast Ford, Performance Car, EVO, Octane and Motorsport News).
Amazing machines and voiced by the only Mr Motorsport himself, the late, great Murray Walker!
Man i love the way they side drive and drift their cars !
Superb camera work. Nothing missed. Great stuff!
Imagine being in that Sunbeam with Henri, hat a memory!
Thanks heaps for all these:-)
RIP Murray Walker
Nice picture and sound quality given the age of the tape, thanks! Very much looking forward to seeing future uploads.
Thanks for the positive feedback. :)
Excellent video.
Thanks for the positive feedback. :)
Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate.
Awesome
Henri Toivonen, a Swedish driver? Interesting.... don't think Murray got it quite right there lol
Murray was better at relaying factual errors than truths. He was more racing mascot than commentator.

Henri was the best
250 hp in a Chevette by a 400 hundred foot drop? These guys must have to leave their balls behind to save weight.
Ha!
It's ok, they were retrofitted with titanium balls 😂

1881.........
Cannot wait for 2030 ...
Totally Electric............
Seriously Cannot wait...............
Ah..the good old days , just down to earth guys driving motors with no fancy tech with loads of talent..not like today's snowflakes that are overpaid and overhyped .
murray defo a better f1 commentator
He was awesome whatever he commented on. I preferred his rally ross commentary to his F1 commentary and that's saying a lot as he was and will always be the voice of F1.
