  • On December 4th, CMLC successfully switched from the temporary platform, which served transit customers through construction for over a year, to the new permanent platform at Victoria Park/Stampede Station.
    This timelapse shows the demolition of the of existing station and supporting infrastructure, the construction of the temporary platform, the start of construction on the new station and canopy, and the work completed during nine-day station shutdown to enable the switch to the new platforms, ending with the first train pulling in to the new station the morning of December 4, 2023.

    Super cool! I hope the rebuild sparks new developments on the lots to the west of the station.

    I don't get hiw at grade is supposed to be better for pedestrians. Shrinking stampede park even more doesn't make sense to me either

      Stairs & long sprawling ramps are inefficient. Not to mention the security risk.
      The real question: Why in a cold- North American city do we not have heated stations! If the concern is b/c of the homeless using them, then this opens a dialogue up abt how we as a society treat homeless as sub human.

    Who needs heat in Canada anyways?
    Funny how the only underground / yearly climate controlled station (Westbrook) is directly underneath the Calgary Transit Operations and Engineering Office. I wonder how many stations could be heated for the price of that building and station alone. Another well thought out plan by Calgary transit 🤪

      Nothing really, but this was one part of a bigger infrastructure realignment for Stampede Park and other local projects.

    cool rebuild but was it necessary? in America they would have kept that up another 20 years lol

      very, I never experienced the station during stampede but it was risky at times for Flames games and just highly ineffective. Then the main way to get to the station was through BMO which they got rid of so as a result it needed a new access point and now instead of both north and south traffic on 1 platform its on 2. Also they intend to widen the road so they had to move the station but thats not for another couple years so in the long run it was needed.

    Where do the trains go? I have a cousin in Innisfail (he runs the local No Frills--tell Paul Simon sent you) and am planning to visit him from the US one of these months/years. I would like to see both Edmonton and Calgary.

      The C-train is inner city transit. It is a light rail train that goes to four corners in Calgary.

    Sorry, 3 1/2 years for this project, of a platform teardown and rebuild, meanwhile in the background the BMO has an absolutely massive renovation and addition happen in what looks like less time.
    Not really a project to be bragging about!

      BMO isn't competing with a major road and CTrain traffic.

      @@LethalChicken77 regardless, the project was incredibly slow for the scope of work to be completed

    • @MrBravo1553
      @MrBravo1553 4 месяца назад

      @@hobbyguy79 its harder for this station to be done, bmo had 1 10 day break for stampede during this time and work through the other one. This station is so busy and important not only for stampede but for hockey, then rush hour traffic uses this road. So many things that held this project as well due to wait times for certain times to use roads and then remember it had to build a new platform for trains to use while then needing to tear that same platform down. It makes sense why it did take longer in the end as this station had to always be in a state to be open compared to BMO

    • @hobbyguy79
      @hobbyguy79 4 месяца назад +1

      @MrBravo1553 sorry but I completely disagree. Construction zone and road were completely separated, as well as new platform and the temporary platform. Yes, the logistics of construction in an active use area is going to be compromised but this should have been completed in 12- 18 months not 42, that is just a brutal example of poor project management.
      I mean the LA Raiders built their entire stadium in practically the same time, can't remember the exact timeline of the top of my head
