- The new Jet Black brings the Black Cat’s trademark sound to players who need more volume. With a second pair of EL-84s doubling its output, common sense suggested it’d be louder and tighter, but no one was quite prepared for the tones the Jet Black would unleash.
Wide open and gloriously unrestrained, the Jet Black packs a visceral gut punch. It feels BIG yet it’s still agile, responsive, and dynamic - you’re in complete control, using nothing more than your pick attack and the volume control on your guitar. An unashamedly joyous amp to play, the Jet Black will have you flashing a wicked sideways grin, every time you plug in. The straight-forward design features 38 watts through a quartet of EL84s, two channels, tremolo, and reverb.
The reimagined first channel presents a forward, in your face personality. Sharpened up and bolder, cleans ring with authority, those magical in-between sounds swirl with harmonics and clarity, and for those who need it the amp is easily provoked into delivering healthy amounts of gain. All this from a single channel.
The second channel is something special, and all new. To cut to the chase - whatever you’re looking for in a rock-oriented amp, there’s a very good chance that the Jet Black will nail it - hard. It spans decades of landmark tones, while retaining a unique personality - the perfect combination of nostalgia and modernity with its own unmistakable swagger.

A new 3 band EQ has a pugnacious mid/hi bark, cutting through without a hint of harshness, and it’s that mid which also allows your playing to shine. The controls have been designed to be perfectly balanced when set at noon, so you can easily brighten or roll off to suit your cabinet or venue without the need for excessive or unbalanced settings. The Jet Black’s sound stands apart from the traditional British voice, and played in a two-guitar band it finds its own sonic space, alleviating the risk of a volume war.
Meticulously tuned reverb and tremolo circuits perfectly match the Jet Black’s personality. The reverb sounds lavish with no splashiness or noise, and the tremolo pulses with fully adjustable depth and speed.
As with every new Bad Cat, you get a buffered and transparent FX loop, meaning zero drama when connecting your beloved effects. A line out means makes using external IRs or re- amping a snap, and there’s a full complement of speaker outputs to choose from. Plug in your old school favorite or step up to a Bad Cat cab. Finally, we’ve included a compact two button footswitch to switch the Tremolo on/off and change channels, and you won’t need to completely rebuild that crazy pedalboard you spent 4 years putting together to accommodate it either.

I have both a Black Cat and a Jet Black (purchased from Nash of course). The biggest problem I have with them?? Deciding which one to take to the gig! I love both these amps! Probably not amps you want to use for chugging metal, but great for just about everything else. Very versatile and easy to dial in.

Thanks for the great videos on the jet black and the black cat! I want to pick up one of these amps, but i cant decide between the jet black and the black cat from the videos.
I have a vox ac30 handwired and a friedman runt 50 so far, wondering what your suggestions would be in going for either of the bad cats with this setup. I'd want a black cat for fuller clean tones and a pedal platform, and the jet black feels like a screaming vox/marshall but with its own voice.
I'm not opposed to swapping the friedman for a jet black if it competes to fill that role. Your demos have me torn and there's no dealer for badcat near me. I would love to hear your guys' thoughts on these two amps.

In my opinion, while the Vox hand wired AC 30 is a fantastic amp, the Badcat Jet Black does everything that amp does plus gets into some of the gainy territory of the Friedman. My counsel would be to trade the Vox for the Badcat. Hope that helps you! We do trades all the time, give us a call if you’re interested, we would be glad to help!
