  • This Lions vs Buffalo clip - "Battle at Marula" was featured in the Nat Geo Wild series, "Caught in The Act"
    Epic battle between a pride of lions and a herd of buffalo. The lions catch a buffalo calf and the buffalo herd returns to rescue the youngster from the lions. The lions do not give up and chase the buffalo, the scene repeats itself in a similar situation to the famous "Battle At Kruger" video (minus the crocodile!).
    The buffalo calf changes hands between the lions and the buffalo herd a number of times, even the lion cubs try to help catch the buffalo calf! The lions featured in this clip are the Othawa lion pride consisting of a sole adult lioness and the sub-adult and juvenile offspring of the famous Mapogo Male Lion Coalition. The adult lioness was letting the young members of the lion pride learn the skills needed to survive in the wild and was quite happy to watch them make mistakes taking down the buffalo calf right up until the end when she took over.
    Filmed close to Marula Dam in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa

    About Rob The Ranger Wildlife Videos:
    The purpose of the channel is to show what it is like to experience seeing wild animals on an African safari. Nature Documentaries are often highly edited to tell a story, wildlife safaris are not, and the idea here is to show the wildlife sightings the way they were seen. Safari tours in Africa are generally suitable for all ages and this channel can be considered an educational channel about incredible nature, some scenes in the nature videos may be more graphic than people are used to but this is the reality of nature and is what you would see if you were present on such a safari in person. Safaris in Kenya, South Africa, or any other African country are an unrivalled experience for anyone with a passion for nature, wildlife photography, and travel. Hopefully the animal videos on this channel can provide a glimpse into what the nature experience is like and encourage more people to take a wildlife safari one day. That was pretty noble and courageous of that buffalo herd to TRY to save the calf. Too bad they didn't muster up that tribal fortitude a little sooner before the little guy got partially disemboweled. Most buffalo herds simply flee immediately without question -- leaving whoever ended up selected as dinner to their grisly fate unchallenged.
    Shows promise, buffalo! Keep up the evolution!

    Can someone explain please why lions never seem to attack the people observing in the vehicles, which are completely wide open and exposed?
    I read lately somewhere that observation vehicles in India must be quite closed and protected as tigers WILL attack open vehicles. I don't know if that's true or not.
    Does anyone know for an absolute fact if there *is* such a behavioural difference between these closely related predators?

    Human interference or not ,the lion will always hunt the buffalo.Past,present,future.There is nothing anybody can do.I am pretty sure if there were no humans around,the lions would still hunt and kill some buffalo.I know it's hard to watch a calf being eaten alive,but it would happen regardless.Circle of life.Many lions are killed by the buffalo as well.But these jeeps were in the way for nature to take its course.

    • @abcdef5010
      @abcdef5010 5 лет назад

      MrSupermax77 evolution is the more suitable genes that survive the environment. Mental power is not included. Plus it’s suppose to be like this, that’s how nature works currently because that’s is the cycle of life. Nothing to do with evolution because Carnivores will stay carnivorous and Herbivores will continue to eat plants. Evolution doesn’t make buffalos better and interrupt the food chain. If it does the Carnivores will also adapt and evolve as a gene mutates that proves to be better for them to live on, and that will survive and pass on that gene which leads to evolution of that specie.

    • @MrSupermax77
      @MrSupermax77 5 лет назад

      @@abcdef5010 ...ok - dont expect this great quantum transition in a medium term - maby they get straight ahead horns sometime so that will be more effectiv in the defence or attack .. in anyway .. we shall not experience this - but the next easier obviously step to changing is the buffalo herd get the conviction to react and act fast so they can surprised the lions ....allthough, the lions evolutions also will be not rest in the meantime....?!

    • @abcdef5010
      @abcdef5010 5 лет назад +1

      MrSupermax77 well ya every specie is evolving, maybe in a million years they will look different, be different because what makes organisms evolve is based on environments. They need to survive in their own environment. But those evolutions are not intentional persay based on what they want, it’s no like in movies of televisions they just gets the power to be better or stronger than their predators. All evolutions are unintentional like it’s all based off of mutations and mutations are random it just natural selection to determine which mutation will help them the most therefore they could then survive and pass off offsprings containing those genes that makes those species what they are right now. But all of them probably still be predator prey relations. As long as the organism can live on through non human interference then that organism is successful as it can keep on passing off offsprings that keeps them alive. It doesn’t have to be that they will all be safe and won’t be hunted by lions by developing straight horn, because that horn might not ever be developed, and maybe even if it is the curved horns can still live on because even with curved horns they are still passing off springs and continue their species and will only result in 2 types of buffalos curved horn ones and straight ones. Those changes make no real difference. Or maybe those mutations happens be worse than the original genes therefore they get out competed and die and never happens to has offsprings. Behavioral evolution may also occurs but there is currently no need because they continue to survive even though they are being hunted by lions, since all organisms die and hunt in some sort because that’s the nature of the cycle. But of course the prerequisites is that animals won’t be extinct because of humans

      Cape buffalo are hardy animals, they survive by being tough and resilient. Here’s the thing you need to know about infection : in nature infection is not a given it’s a game of chance , sometimes animals can get infections in their wounds if it’s severe enough (and exposed to pathogenic elements) other times cuts are merely superficial and heal over quickly.
      You’ll also notice Wild ungulates are generally more resistant to disease than their domestic counterparts, they have to be in order to survive on their own.

      I'm only going by observation here, but I think it's because we're not livestock to them. In other words, we're not prey, or don't appear that way, yet. We're not part of their animal kingdom, and they lack information about us. We seldom interact with their kind as well. To add to that, the only time they will for sure attack a human close by is when they feel threatened by them, which these people in the video are being mindful of.

    I've noticed in many different safari videos the guides refer to lions and buffalo in a different language when talking on the radio. Why is that, and what language is that?

    Man... if only buffalo knew how much bigger and stronger they were. They should just fight back immediately

    • @symonzziwa2744

      you have to literally change their mindset to think that they are bigger and stronger just like a lions mindset is i run from nobody no matter how big or strong they look

    The vehicle makes a lot of beeping and noise and scared the buffalo and they can't rescue their family member.

      a poor animal have to die a painful death because of the camera crew i dont see the point. there are better ways to capture this. humans need to maintain distance when wild animals are hunting. i guess you have no heart.

    An interesting film. However, the jeeps are too close and are interfering with this situation, They obscure the vision of the buffalo and the lions; and they cut off escape routes for the lions and approach angles for the buffalo. Twenty meters should be the closest the jeeps are allowed to encroach.I am surprised the rangers allow this to happen.

    • @roseannewillard9613
      @roseannewillard9613 2 года назад

      I agree the jeeps are noisy and way to close it's obvious this interferes with the hunt.

    People disliking this video just because a Lion family is trying to feed its cubs. People click the video to see the nature, and then dislike. Idiots like that should stay away from wildlife videos and watch ben 10.

    It never ceases to amaze me that the buffalo do not make an absolute no tolerance stand against lions taking one of them. If they were smarter and more persistent, a lion would never eat another buffalo again...unless they had a massive amount of males....but, certainly, not in this situation.

    Hi, i’m curious why lions dont attack humans in that video it seems theyre open for an attack.

    • @robtheranger
      @robtheranger  5 лет назад +1

      They don't see the humans as a threat and they don't know humans taste good. If they are neither food, nor threat, then the lions are not interested
