Lucas Mangope worked for his people and developed the then Bophuthatswana immensely. Now as North West, the province has become a swamp of corruption, incompetence, almost zero service delivery, under development, hopelessness etc. Thanks to cANCer!! Ironically Mangope warned his people about the ill intentions of cANCer but nobody cared to listen. Now the people of NW are paying the heaviest price and indeed euphoria has evaporated.
Phephi my brother. I once visited Bophuthatswana in the early 80s during Kgosi Mangophe's tenure with Soweto Orchestra. We slept at the Guest House and we were given a royal treatment. We played at Lehurutsi Hall. Bophuthatswana was well managed and beautiful. Not now, it is a mess!! Thanks to the ANC!!
@@zumkwana101 It's really heartbreaking. I was there last year September, the infrastructure that he built is crumbling, sewerage flowing through the streets, roads and streets riddled with potholes. I can go on and on.

Yes, Mangope was very much in favour of not only being independent but also unifying all the Tswana lands, so Bophuthatswana and Botswana would have eventually merged to be a greater Tswana nation
This anthem was that of one of the Bantustans. A more bright side of Apartheid. I think South Africa will only Prosper again under a federal (white) government. Where every people get a fair share of land
lots of childhood memories from 1980s ....every night when BOP TV closes they would play this.... Botswana had no TV station in the 1980s...and only 1 radio.station....so i grew up on BOP TV...Radio BOP...as they were really entertaining...also TV3 and TV1 RIP Lucas Manyane Mangope
I like listening to his jokes, a typical tswana man, but what an "ORATOR ".This are rare species.A total developer and brilliant, visionary man, I always feel pain when his legacy is not protected and taken care of.
Reminds of Bop TV when it was launched in 1984, which was a reprieve from watching abo gwajo on TV2. At least, it brought movies like combat by Vic Moore.
Was that really given to them as an option? I thought that, once apartheid ended in South Africa, Bophuthatswana's reuniting with South Africa was sort of a _fait accompli_ -- since it was never internationally recognized, and was still considered part of S.A. Was there some kind of referendum, on being part of Botswana?

Those were the days when black excellence was still wide spread. The legacy of Bophuthatswana can not be forgoten. Thank you for this one
Ska lebala gore chief justice Mogoeng o tswa mo academy ya botshelo ya Bop.

That was generally when excellence existed in SA, it seems - didn't matter if you were black or white or Asian.

I'm crying really our so called liberators have turned against their subjects.
Looks like it was a really cool place. Nice anthem, too!

The flag of Bophuthatswana was beautiful. The Leopard so majestic. The homeland is now gone. I have happy memories of living in Mahikeng in the 80s.
Good old childhood memories way back in the 80's. I had grown up in Hammanskraal, Temba.
The good olden days ko Bophuthatswana.

What a legacy Mangope left in NW...now NW its a scrapyard

Bophuthatswana never should HV bn part of SA. ANC is an embarrassment
Nothing But The Truth true 😢😢😢
They didn't have a choice.... They stripped them of the power
We need an Apartheid SA without Apartheid and with an Afrikaner bantustan. Also, bantustans should be appropriate rather then SA-dependant
