Yellow and blue gloves , red with blue gloves all came in the 70s. Same with the boots. Before then there wasn’t any adidas or multicolour options with anything. Couldn’t imagine 30s 40s 50s era guys from Joe Louis to Liston wearing these.
I watched this fight, Jerry was terrible. I felt so sorry for him. I remember they interviewed Frank Sinatra after the fight, and he said Jerry should retire. RIP Jerry
Zanon was an excellent boxer (undisputed European champion beating opponents such as Alfredo Evangelista) but due to an accident he had a disability in his right leg which limited him and made his right punch less powerful.
Nothing against Zanon. but in Jerry Quarry's prime, a Lorenzo Zanon would never see round 5. It pains the many fans of Jerry to see him trying another comeback. Remembering his fights with Jimmy Ellis, Floyd Patterson, Jack Bodell, Thad Spencer, and other topnotch heavyweights. Later, Jerry would pay the price of not retiring when his age, speed, and reflexes compromised a once great fighter. Quarry fought Joe Frazier, took way too many head shots in their two fights with each other. Jerry fought the toughest heavyweight in the history of boxing, that was iron-jawed George Chuvalo, and the two fights with Ali, both losing affairs for Jerry. Who can forget Jerry's knockout of hard hitting Ernie Shavers. Quarry, in his ring career, fought some of the "best" there ever was. Win, lose, or draw the shots these listed fighters alone administered to Jerry's head, would make many fighters very punch-drunk. Jerry's life was cut short due to this sickness and injury. In the time period that Jerry fought in there were some of the very best heavyweights in ring history. And Jerry fought them all! May he Rest In Peace!
Jerry attributed his poor performance to needing more training to get into shape after the fight, then quietly retired again. Sadly he would make further comebacks in 1983 (38) and, disturbingly, in 1991 at 48, losing a one sided battering to a Colorado club fighter.
It has to be very disappointing to see pay skyrocket just after retiring. In these days, most pro athletes needed a second job in order to pay the bills. 🤔
Quarry's last good fight was his KO of Earnie Shavers. He looked terrible in his tune up fight with Joe Alexander, and even worse in the 2nd Frazier fight.
@@Curtis75156 Quarry didn't take his training seriously. He was out of shape in the latter half of his career. You would think that a person with a job that requires you to exercise and be in shape would take boxing seriously. He was in it for the paycheck and didn't care if he got beat on.
Thanks for the video, IRONBAR BOXING
Always like Jerry as a fighter and a human being. Good guy all around.
Love the blue Reyes gloves you didn't see many different glove colors back in those days.

Good quality video. Years ago on YT another video surfaced but the quality was worse.

Frank must have lost a stack of cash on this fight, eh? 🤣
Quarry's reflexes were shot. He was lucky to catch Zanon.
What about Zanon's reflexes?
Quarry -----Champion!💥
I See Quarry Had Rich Giachetti In His Corner! He Was Also Larry Holmes Trainer! 🥊
Looks like Ron Jeremy.
Without the heavy harpoon.
@@TheBatugan77can you tell me who's Ron Jeremy
The commercials were interesting. But where were all the big pharma ads for prescription drugs?
There was a time when big pharma couldn't advertise directly to consumers; they could only advertise to doctors.
Quarry had killer instinct.....good fighter...need more head movement
He had great head movement. Unfortunately it was due to his head being smacked around like a tether ball.

And he had a bad chin.

Jerry Quarry should have retired after the second Frazier fight.
It has to be very disappointing to see pay skyrocket just after retiring. In these days, most pro athletes needed a second job in order to pay the bills. 🤔
Zanon had a very weak chin. Quarry was still popular with the fans back then, but he wasn't half the fighter he was in the early 70's.
