  • Dallas's Notes: dwillard.s3.us...
Dallas Willard addresses the profound gap that exists in postmodern culture between the personal life of Christians and their professional life. Dallas said that if you carry one thing away with you after hearing this talk, he hoped it would be this:
"In the renewing of our inner world, we have to understand that our ideas and our beliefs must integrate with the fact that the central content of the Christian tradition is a tradition of KNOWLEDGE. It's not a tradition of wild leaps and blind guesses. We KNOW about God - we know it on the basis of reality that has been experienced and lived with and tested."
Recorded at the 1998 InterVarsity Christian Fellowship conference for graduate and professional students, faculty and mentors.

He was such an amazing teacher and speaker. I thank God daily that I, along with countless others, am able to continue my work as a disciple of Jesus Christ. With the teachings of Christ, and along with the encouraging words and teachings of Dallas Willard, his legacy will continue to help make many more disciples for our Lord. 🕊️✝️

So sad that This lecture needed to be given but such a sign of the times as to how far away from the cross, the word and relationship with the Trinity the church has fallen. I am convinced that the issue is this -the message of the need for inner transformation has been so neglected. I thank the Lord for raising up this man in the field in which he did. I hope many were mentored by him to carry the torch.

Welcome to DWM, Maria. Dallas' teachings are dense and it's common for people to take time to meditate on what's been said.

I now understand the difference between being simply a religious person and a growing, living and breathing apprentice to Jesus. I choose discipleship over religion and I embrace the awkwardness of entering The Kingdom while currently placed in the tension of the World. I don’t need to know it all because I know the one who truly does.

with all due respect to professor Willard, here is my position about Jesus's Being a super smart being. probably and perhaps that should that be in a comparison because he was not truly human. He was a supernatural capabilities so he should not be compared to an individual who's has a high IQ, in possession of the smarts. In other words he should not be compared to us, as he has supernatural capabilities that a normal human being can not have such vision. We Do not know what's like as we are in his shoes! one could never gain his true vision of the world! no matter how much depth of field one gains!

What he says about Jesus is just silly. Jesus was a human being as well as divine. Why should He necessarily be the greatest mathematician ? Did He demonstrate mathematical genius, ever ?
Was he the physically strongest man ? The most handsome ? (No, per Isaiah 53). He got tired, he thirsted, he had to sleep. We’re told He GREW as a youth into certain virtues.
Sure, he had ACCESS to supernatural power and knowledge, but as a human he didn’t walk around with it all the time.

This is all just a bald assertion that Christian dogma is true, without any objective demonstration. Academic fields must have empirical methods of gathering and testing ideas which someone is claiming to be objective knowledge. How can any Christian OBJECTIVELY demonstrate, for example, that God exists and is composed of 3 persons ? Can they say a prayer to those 3 invisible beings which produces a miraculous result that alters physical reality in a measurable way ? Of course not.
