  • This lovely production, written by Adrian Mitchell and first produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2001, really deserves more attention. It is one of the most complete theatrical adaptations of the Alice books to date and includes a rather accurate portrayal of Charles Dodgson. Alice is played by Katherine Heath. Although contemporary reviews were not positive, more recent productions have been better received. It was most recently performed at the Jersey Arts Centre on the Isle of Jersey in 2023, where it was received positively.

Thanks to my dear friend With Dreaming Eyes of Wonder for finding this and helping with this description, and many thanks to Sugar and Dirt for going through the amazing effort to get a copy of this from the RSC archives and edit it🙂

YOOO! I'm sooo happy it's back! I remember a channel that had this version both acts up on their RUclips account and I'd watch it all day. I love this version it's one of my favorites. Thanks for uploading this, Sam

The original video was uploaded by me and my channel. I went all the way from Germany to the RSC archive in Stratford to get it. Sadly due to a harddrive crash I lost the original files. The video was heavily edited by me (the credits are obviously made by me) and the original footage was way brighter. I wish I could get the files back and make a cleaner edit that doesn't loose so much detail.
PS: I made the video on my channel private because the RSC actually made a copyright claim on the RSC Wizard of Oz videos. So you might need to consider that with reuploading.

Wow, I honestly had no idea! Thank you SO MUCH for your amazing work getting this out of the archives! I added a credit for you in the description. It's a shame the original files are lost, but this is still much better than nothing. I did a bit of editing on the audio as well. I have friends who have hyperacusis and the very loud music with the much more quiet dialogue made this very difficult for them to watch, so I attempted to normalize it. To be honest, audio editing is not my forte, so someone more skilled could probably do a better job here, but I still think it's an improvement.
