Thank you! Unfortunately if you're referring to the class 4 receiver, it is just capped per the numbers I outlined as there is no other info given in any of the ford documentation. There's no reason for that hitch to exist otherwise. Anything over those numbers requires the trailer tow package 53A or the Max Tow 53C
@@3VJohnny I can agree to the 7000lb rating in the chart.. but just the 5k rating is talking about trailer hitch by itself.. in the notes it will tell you when max tow is needed to get at a higher number. Look at the gearing.. then the gcwr... 17000(7).. 7 says you have to have max tow..
I think we're saying the same thing. You need a weight distribution hitch for any trailer any package over 5,000 lb. I think we're saying the same thing. Class for 53 b package has a hard limit no matter how capable of a truck you have. Still need the weight distribution if you have a 7,000 lb capacity with the 53 b, otherwise it's 5,000 lb like you said. And then higher weights beyond the 53B caps, require the true trailer tow packages. Assuming that's what you're saying. If so, yes agreed and I touched on that
@@3VJohnnyahh..just seen a thing in the 2017 tow guide. For trailers over 5000lbs - trailer tow package or max tow package. Also list the three tow package 53a, 53b and 53c right before that
Exactly and if you read all the documents, which you have to read in order to piece it together. You'll see that the trailer tow package is a title referring to 53A. Max tow is also a title and refers to 53C. Class 4 hitch is the other title which is 53B and is excluded as a trailer tow package. It is very silly how they did it and it's insane that you have to go through three different documents to come to that conclusion. In the latest towing guides they did a much better job of explaining it. In the 2023 guide, It's much clearer when reading the annotations.
Those trucks use a class IV hitch across the board. It has to do with Ford's rating of the rest of the truck. There were different sway bars, some years had cooling options included, gearing, frames, etc. Has nothing to do with the hitch. The max tow package as extra bracing on the hitch but those numbers are fairy tale numbers anyways.
Great job dummying down a very complicated subject, helping me to determine what RV's to seek
Great video.. but it's 5000lbs without weight distribution hitch.. max tow seems to be using the same class iv hitch.

so the hitch is weak or not strong enough??
