1989 to 1990 had some of our best ever groups emerge into a decade long of great indie music. Madchester was a brilliant era to be young!! nothing like it! 👏👏👏
Hey kids, while you are quite correct some of these songs are not from Manchester, the term Madchester evolved quickly to represent a core dance movement mashup from the the UK. It was a very short timeframe that was a springboard for a feeling and movement that reached around the world to those willing to listen and expand on. When I wasn't out Raving and went to a club night all the way down here in Sydney and saw the above Madchester flyer, I knew exactly what range of music they would be playing.. Favorite memory - dancing in a field in Byron Bay at a Rave on the east coast of Australia under a violent lightning storm to the Stone Roses - Fools Gold in 1992 thinking life's pretty sweet at the moment..
Jeremy, Madchester was a typo and it should have been the... Manchester EP..but didn't realise until a lot had been printed. Similar to..What The World Is Waiting For..was the A side and fools gold was originally the b side. From Salford ✌️
Fascinating if true, I never questioned why it was the case because it still works as a play on words.. @@glenndouglas8822 I'll add this exact image was used on endless fliers to promote club nights.

Not even to mention Shoegaze, which owed a lot to the Flying Nun bands from NZ.
Greater Manchester like people use to say nowadays.
