I actually love the clean lines of the lockers with the mantle being so ornate and the table and chairs being a nice combination. I think the wood color is making them successful. If you want wider, you could move the lockers to one side of the nook and get a tree for the space on the fireplace side. It could help with the stencil vibe that you are patiently waiting for. It could even be a fake tree. I love the idea of moving the small curio cabinet to a hallway so the lockers feel more intentional. I am a perpetual rearranger though. 😉 Every deep clean something gets rearranged. Your house is so much like a dollhouse. So perfect for you. 🧡💙

Some type of legs or upholstered base may work, mounted to the lockers. Beautiful, you got a treasure that you can use forever in many rooms❤

I love the size of that dining room. I love big old fashioned dining rooms where one can host Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in style. Thanks for the tips!

Such beautiful floors, Kathleen. Perhaps someday beautiful knobs for the lockers would make it look less primitive. I have many vintage furniture pieces but no antiques from my mom and mother-in-law.

Your dining room is so lovely!!! The mantel, floor and the wainscoting is just amazing. I would be so interested to see the wall treatment you mentioned. Do you have an image that you could share? Could you paint the lockers the same color as your chairs?

Thank you!😊 I do i will have to find it. I did float this idea to my husband but… hahah I had to solemnly swear to not touch them with paint😑

Oh drat! 😊 I do love a challenge.
If you think the lockers seem too small for that nook, could you.....
Add bulk with a beautiful type of garland on the top and lots of thrifted brass candlesticks?
Not a Christmas garland, but something with large leaves or fluffy dried hydrangeas. I think you can diy leaves with brown craft paper lightly sprayed with a couple different metallic spray paints

The lockers would be amazing in a mudroom, first time watching, so don't know if you have one or a back porch for gardening stuff. Vintage is 20+ years, antique is 100 years or more old. Love your high ceilings. Our facebook market place is the same, takes me awhile to find things I love. The east coast is amazing for stuff. You could also add some molding etc to the lockers to get a nicer look and possibly paint. Goo gone would help to remove the labels without marring the lockers with a butter knife.

Welcome! Thank you for you ideas 😀I do think they would be amazing in a mudroom. We have the space but it needs work…would be such a fun project. Thank you for your comments. I’m so glad you found me!

I think it would look great to stencil the inner panels of the locker doors and then sand the stencil a bit so it looks worn. It might be too busy with the current wallpaper but maybe if you move them. I am thinking of a large pattern stencil.

What about adding small legs to the bottom of the lockers; you'll probably have to add another board on the bottom to strengthen it. Also, could add a board on top that is thicker and a little longer. Just found your channel, love your style!!

Hi Kathleen, Do you have any videos on how to decorate for a German Country Cottage? I know how to do an English Country Cottage, but I am not sure if my German antique pieces (not furniture) just little pieces here and there would fit into an English Country Cottage vibe? Or would they? Please advise.

    • @OldWorldFarmHouse
      @OldWorldFarmHouse  21 день назад +1

Hi, I am not familiar with German Country at all! But I would imagine that little pieces here and there would definitely fit in. I don't think the various European country styles have super hard and fast definitions. It's about creating a feeling of comfort and cohesiveness...your pieces sound lovely!

I love your big rooms especially this dining room. The lockers are awesome!! They would be good for homeschooling supplies.
I rescue antique/vintage pieces and then have to find a place to put them in my house 😂.
I’m constantly moving pieces all over the house. My husband never knows what he will find when he gets home from work.
Last Christmas I decorated one corner of the living room for him and told him I would never change it. It is his dark academia corner. It is a very nice cozy corner.
Thank you for sharing your ideas.

Farm House, Grandma core this & that.... I'm over it. I have only a few items, I've donated a boatload of gently used things. Clutter is a no-no for me. I shop inside my own home. I love colors and animal decor tropical plants, plus other unrelated styles.

Auctions are a great place to buy furniture and save a bundle. I have decorated my entire place with auction finds. You can find some quality sturdy non chipped things. I got my camel colored flexsteel couch in clean show room condition for $5! Oh please don't scrape with a metal knife on wood. Wet the tape well with water and then Murphy's oil soap. Leave on about 10 minutes and if you scrape , use plastic knife. NOT metal.

You could’ve taken the drawers out of the buffet to make it easier to move .If that wallpaper is good and stuck on well you could paint over it then do your stencils on it .
