    I personally value an artifact based on how many substats that's imo usable for the character using it. So many considerations that goes into deciding how bad/good an artifact, but my general rule is to see how many times it hits "dead substats" (substats that will not be useful for a character). The more it hits the dead substats the lower the grade.

    • @ryankhalid7909

      @James Haynes i consider all flat stats as dead substats from the get go (except EM) and i can only tolerate if there are maximum 2 dead substats. So let's say a flower with 2 lines of crit stats alongside 2 dead substats, I will try to roll it.

    If nothing else, this 2.7 delay brought us some amazing Sevy guides.
    Here are my two cents: CV needs ATK (or HP/DEF depending on the character) to bounce off of. For example, I use a 17CV artifact on my Xiao instead of a 35CV one because it has 20% ATK.
    That's a noblesse buff from just substats. And the artifact also has 11% ER so it's perfect for my Xiao. Even with Noblesse, and Tenacity, this is the best feather for my personal Xiao.
    From all the maths I've done, up to maybe 1800 ATK give or take, 1% ATK is more valuable than 1% CRIT DMG. Of course, crit substats also have the benefit of higher percentages (4.1-5.8ATK% VS 5.4-7.8% CD) but dont sleep on ATK%.
    (Unless your main dps is an empty husk with 100%CR-300%CD whose only purpose is to consume Shenhe Quills and Yun Jin Flags, which is also very valid)
    Last thing I'll say is that I wouldn't go above 80-85% crit rate, just because there are external crit rate boosts (food, Geo Traveller, Rosaria, Cryo res, Abyss cards) and every point above 100% is just a waste. Crit damage buffs are limited and are always a net positive instead.

    • @georgen9439
      @georgen9439 2 года назад +6

      iirc the original community post first bringing up the 1:2 crit ratio and math behind it also said that an atk% roll was more valuable up to atk=210% base atk. So probably a bit less than 1800 for most characters but definitely still WAY higher than most people aim for, due to some (other, ofc) streamers oversimplifying all that and treating crit as the only set of substats that matter.

    • @shadi2962
      @shadi2962 2 года назад +2

      Crit is valuable for teams that don't have it because of a concept sometimes called "buff stacking."
      - A buff only keeps the same flat value when added to itself and the change to the results is actually lower
      - A new buff multiplies/is multiplied by the other stats and has a higher flat value than it has alone, keeping more of its change value
      - So, while crit damage is not even valuable at the beginning of the game due to low crit rate, it gains value as crit rate gets higher but starts to fall off as its own value gets higher
      - Attack increases its value, or, a high attack's value is increased by crit.
      - Energy recharge allows a skill to be used more often, another value increase that starts out at full effectiveness when increasing it from 0
      - Getting too much of just one makes your setup far worse than having a mix
      If you want the most damage you want to combine them all.
      ---------> Also, CV is a completely meaningless value, I didn't know that "existed" and I'm glad I never used it. Average Multiplier is MUCH more useful, Crit rate x crit damage would give you your actual average damage increase, one being lower makes the other one worth far less.
      - It also neglects the power of defense and healing effectiveness, which increase how much enemy damage per second/minute you can take from the same amount of healing(while max HP also means more from food, or the same more-hits-required to go from max to 0 that DEF gives.)
      (DEF is like a jack-of-all-trades, it increases the effectiveness of base health and new health unlike healing effectiveness)
      Either: less avoiding attacks = more dishing them out, dying = getting nothing, or more healing = more lazy, whichever fits for you
      One exception though is of course characters who can scale two stats on one stat, especially when one stat increases both damage and survivability(Noelle DEF, Qiqi ATK, Zhongli HP, might be more of a healer/shielder thing). Falloff is still there but the second stat being scaled won't be as valuable while the double-scaling stat will be very worth it and not require any complicated math

      this is true. my gripe is with people trashing artifacts with better total substats (has more atk, em, er, etc.) just because it has lower total crit value; some even value crit dmg over crit rate. this is more prevalent in the casual space. players who don't watch these kind of content and stuff, players new to gacha and gaming in general that got into genshin etc.

      ATK doesn't have diminishing returns any more than dmg bonus or crit stats do. They all have opportunity cost. The Golden rule with this many damage bolstering elements is that balance is best.
      6x6x6= 216
      5x6x7= 210
      4x6x8= 192.
      A lot of people just don't understanding that with each % of CD each point of ATK becomes more valuable and vice versa. Starting from 1500 ATK, every +500 ATK and every +50% CD is interchangeable.
      It's also why the "you only need +120% of base ATK" recommendation is bull. 120% more ATK on Ningguang is a far lower amount of ATK than what Keqing or even Rosaria would get.

    another very important thing to consider is what weapons you have for the character you're picking out the artifact for. if you have a character with a weapon that provides a lot of extra crit one way or the other, it gives you much more wiggle room to work with substats like ATK/EM/ER while still maintaining close to a 1:2 or even 1:3* crit ratio
    Xiao is a great example of a character who can get away with focusing more on other substats, he doesn't really need EM because he's not a reaction or VV focused anemo unit, he has a Crit Rate ascension stat, and his BiS weapon is PJWS, which has a Crit Rate substat. You may overlook potentially great ATK% and ER% substat artifacts because of how tempting stacking Crit Dmg like crazy is on him, but if you've ever used him w/ anything less than 130% ER, even with a battery, his rotations can feel really awful.

Substats I looked for percentage rolls into (prioritised above HP) were ATK and ER, and DEF didn't really matter either way. She has more than enough HP from sands and goblet and weapon, honestly, and for coop she needs to do enough damage to be able to fishy slap the enemies to death if the other people were apparently allergic to standing near the jellyfish. Constant jellyfish uptime also means constant hydro application if the enemies are herded right, and constant heals available _somewhere_ on the field if not.

    I think the best way to generalize an artifact's value is a method that the old artifact raters use: valuing ATK% and ER substats as one-half of a crit stat. That way, a max attack roll of 5.8% or a max ER roll of 6.5% would be valued as 3.9 CV, and we basically go from there with those ratios. EM, when it's relevant (pyro, anemo, childe, melt ganyu's wanderer set, etc.) are around 75% CV in rolls value and has no value on artifacts for characters that doesn't use it well (most of the cast). Minor scaling for characters like Ayato (HP) and Yae (EM) are treated as 25% of CV in rolls value.
    It's not perfect, but it does provide a pretty good approximation for artifact worth for whether to keep or fodder.

    There are a few misconceptions here.
    1) CV calculation. as we are looking at artefacts. please see artefact details when doing ratings. that yoimiya is nowhere close to 300 cv (which would be near perfect)
    2) ER EM. these 2 stats in general have a threshold.
    ER- you should always build to a point where it is sufficient and up to 20-30% over the minimum is fine too. this depends on how much you wanna min max
    EM - of course this is balanced as a ratio multiplier between EM ATK CV. but in general you have to see if your unit is capable of MELT & VAPE 100% of the time. Assuming we use Xiangling which is capable of such. then we would be looking for approx 200-280 EM (Depending on artefact quality). Anything higher would suffer heavily from diminishing returns. this is due to how rapidly EM Scales. Note that if CW is used this scales additive not multiplicative to EM therefore you would want lesser EM (100-150)
    3) ATK%, marginal gains of within single digits of Crit. With bennett atk would never beat CV even if im running an extreme crit stats. such as an overall character stats of 100% CR 320% CD on a character with only 3.2k atk with bennett buff (best use scenario for atk). crit still slightly beats out atk%. of course that ratio is impossible to achieve. therefore crit beats atk assuming the inclusion of bennett. However, should we remove benett, crit and atk are extremely balanced and it is likely that you will require a calculator to maximize this for you.
    Ultimately using CV is indeed not perfect, but it is reasonable and it is widely accepted. There is no way to include ER and EM into any standardized formula as these stats have a hard cap where anything above a certain point has little value. As for ATK%, there is the bennett question, we could also perhaps modify this "cv only" to "CV +atk" but either way both formulas have their flaws. another metric would be the # of rolls this is obviously heavily flawed due to the balancing of what rolls are considered optimal.

I've tried getting her crit rate to be more consistent, but none of my existing artifacts really improve it, so I tried swapping to Serpent Spine on her. Even with the stacks, her NA damage is greatly diminished bc of the Atk loss. I do plan on saving up for Redhorn (bc I have Itto as well, and I will spoil my faves) since it's a Crit DMG+Def Scaling weapon, I could probably take Xinyan to new heights with my existing setup, and just swap to a Crit Rate hat.
    Conversely, I pulled Haran for Kaeya, and I had to swap to a Blizzard Strayer Atk% goblet to keep his 4PC bonus (which happens to have the godliest Crit Damage of all my artifacts) His overall damage output is much greater than using one of my existing Cryo goblets.

    @tuhalu4123 2 года назад +3

    It's all about stat balance and what caps you set.
    Certainly, ER is a case where you want the right amount for each character and the team you are using them in (which can get messy if you have multiple teams you might use that character in). Mostly, going past that is a bad idea. But sometimes you fight energy draining enemies and have to deal with that too.
    As others noted, ATK % is great since it's roughly equal in value to the same amount of crit damage or half as much crit rate. And it actually takes a LOT before the value drops too much. If you have over 2500 ATK, then maybe you don't need more too badly, but up until then it's fine.
    For crit rate, I try to not go over 90% crit rate with my character + gear. Because food exists, and in the Spiral Abyss, the crit card exists. And then there are cases where you can go even lower because you are doing a Freeze team with Cryo resonance and/or Blizzard Strayer 4p set bonus. Or maybe you have a character in the team that provides crit rate to team mates (Yoimiya, Hu Tao or Rosaria). Up to 90 crit rate, I definitely agree that a 1:2 ratio (or near to it) is ideal. But past that, just stack more crit damage and "fix" when needed.
    For me, EM is the really tricky stat. You have to decide if the character wants EM at all (physical dpsers and geo users tend to fall in this camp), but also if you should stop at around 200-400 (melt or vape activators for instance) or just pile in as much as you can get (anemo swirlers).
    Finally, when you really think about it, most of these guidelines really only apply to classical sub/main dps characters with pure ATK scaling. There are also characters with additional scalings (Def or HP usually). Anemo swirlers care less about crit value since less than half of their damage scales with crit at all. And of course, there are healer/buffer types that care far more about healing or buffing than they do about their paltry damage.

    The problem with the 1:2 crit ratio is that in practice the ratio is only good if you're looking for consistency. A player looking showcase speed of event or abyss clear might still be looking for that 50:200 ratio because they'll invest the time to get the better rng for a fast clear speed. In some cases you can also use team synergy to help crit ratio so you can stack Cdmg. For example my Yoimiya has a 51:255 ratio but I can pair her with Rosaria who I've built specifically to buff crit giving my team the max 15% crit effectively giving Yoimiya 66:255. Stacking one stat isn't bad so long as you are aware of what you're doing. Yanfei for example I've specd for CR at I want the double proc on her charged atk so she has 72:170 ratio. Understand team building is just as important as understanding stat spreads.

      even if you were easygoing about the substats, don't forget that everytime you spend resin on an artifact domain, you're gambling:
      1. that the correct artifact set comes out (50% chance)
      2. that the correct piece comes out (20% chance)
      3. if aiming for sands/goblet/circlet, you're gambling that the correct main stat comes out.
      realistically if you stopped there you would get so many flat def and HP% rolls you'd be unkillable. your enemies would be unkillable too because you'd end up with something wonky like +10% atk, 30 total crit rate and 80 crit damage. you want to invest more in your characters, especially particularly your hypercarries like hu tao and ayaka. so you'd look for reasonably strong artifacts which leads you to rng layer number 4:
      4. that the correct substats show up
      5. that those substats get rolled.
      keep in mind that while i present each choice to be equally likely, the fact is that HP and Def will show up more often than your crit and atk pieces. remember: what sevy shows here is that you shouldn't be as restrictive with artifact substat selection, but all that does is widen the pool of available beneficial substats in a player's perception. it only slightly alters the odds that you get a favorable result from rng layer 5. but what about the other 4 layers? even getting a crit circlet takes roughly 11 days rounded down, and there's a very good chance that that circlet is terrible. for comparison, i can raise a character's talent level from 0-10 in 5 or 6 days of resin, and it's guaranteed to have good results every single time i do it. no gambling for "subtalent levels."
      you're right that the artifact system is not as bad as people make it seem. if you look at the math, it's straight up worse.

    I think another thing to point out is the reason why people value crit stats so much. In the earlier meta of Genshin (which kinda holds true even now), people had a lot of atk increasing effects, especially Bennett and Noblesse Oblige. Nowadays, not has a team with an atk buffer (like Morgana and other freeze comps), making attack more valuable!

  • @chiragadwani1875
    @chiragadwani1875 Год назад

    For those wondering what is the math behind the 1:2 ratio, here is a possible set up:
    Crit Value, CV = 2*CR+CD. We will assume that this is a constant of the problem.
    Effective damage (or crit effectiveness), CE = CR*CD
    So the question is that we need to maximise the effective damage CE=CR*CD, subject to the constraint 2*CR+CD = CV, a constant.
    The way we solve these type of two variable optimisation problems with a given constraint is by the method of Lagrange multipliers. This is a fairly straightforward problem too as all the functions are quadratic at best, so it’s easy to compute their gradients.
    If you use the Lagrange multiplier method on this, The answer turns out to be 2*CR=CD, which means build your artifacts in 1:2 ratio. Have a nice day :)

      You don't neccessarily need to fix that by changing your artifacts or weapon. You can make up for a chunk of that by teaming up with a crit provider like Rosaria and/or putting him in a freeze team with 2 cryo members for the resonance effects (15% crit rate while affected by cryo or frozen). With an Ayato, Rosario, cryo flex, flex slot team, you could actually hit 100% crit rate and make full use of your 224 crit damage. Yeah balancing overall stats is very important. I have tested 2 different artifacts on my Ayaka, where artifact A makes my Ayaka has 2070 atk and 250 cdmg while artifact B has 1970 atk and 265 cdmg. For a raw damage test Ayaka, artifact A actually exerts more damage on her ult, 14k to 13k in comparison to artifact B despite losing 15% cdmg but increased 100 atk.
    But the other things you need to consider is that in a team comps, attack buffs is very common like from Noblesse, ToM, Bennett, Sara, TToDS, etc so when those buffs are added into equation, artifacts B will pull ahead.

    This is all in my humble (unpopular) opinion.
    Another factor not mentioned here is that Genshin content relies on timebombs, and opponents are not very tanky, aside from shields which are more of a strategy check rather than DPS check. So what?
    Imho 10% CR jump (20 CV jump) from like 60% to 70% CR was not that impactful compared to 200 more attack or 20% more CD, even if their value is just the same. Why? It's because more guaranteed crit on low damage = you're not clutch i.e. you have less capability of one-shotting an opponent. Low damage can force you to have a 2nd rotation because the mobs consistently has small HP left, which also demands more ER.
    High damage on the other hand (high ATK% and CD), if your mediocre crit rate (say 50 to 60%) procs, you can kill enemies in one go, no need for 2nd rotation, no need for excess ER (which has cap btw, it's limited by your character's skill cooldown), no need for shields and heals, no time for them to regenerate (like Nobushi, Abyss 12-1) or recreate shields (Abyss Mages). So, how about if your crit dont proc? Well, you will ALSO be forced to have a 2nd rotation on slightly higher HP left, but you will do the same if you have high CR on low damage, anyway.
    So by recommended numbers, while consistency is very valuable against big bosses, if I have bad artifacts and I have to choose, for much of content I'd much rather have like 50-55% CR as a sweet spot on >160% CD at >2000 ATK even if it's not 1:2, than a 70% CR on 140% CD with

    Many people patch their lack of attack% with Bennett all the time, so they focus on crit value but that presents several issues:
    - You restrict the character's uptime to the timeframe of Bennett's ult
    - You restrict it to an specific area, which means massive dps loss without a CC unit
    - You restrict it to the presence of Bennett himself, which means the character will lose a lot of dmg potential if you cannot use him or its not optimal to do so.
    Building characters that dont scale their dmg off Attack requires a rather interesting balance between base stats and crit multipliers, which makes them a bit harder to build but reliable and consistent.

    I'd like to propose a new metric: CrAVER. Crit Attack Value with Energy Recharge. It's similar to CV, but you halve the Attack %, and assign a flat addition for any Energy Recharge roll (because IMO you don't want too many substat rolls from leveling to go to ER for most characters, so one base roll per artifact is valuable and worth adding to the metric).

    for Eula I have a goblet that has 24% atk and 6% cd and that does more damage than a 24% CD goblet. That is even when she is fully buffed with Raiden Bennett and Zhongli

    Hey CV 😆
    I just wanna say thank you, I have wanderer with a 50+ CR 200+ CD with 2400+ ATK in shemenawa set and I can't single cycle the Dorito with it with the help of C5 Benny, C0 Faruzan and lvl 0 c0 Yunjin
    Then I saw your video I swapped the circlet into CR now my Wanderer has 70+ CR 140+ CD with 2500+ ATK in shemenawa set and now I can single cycle the Dorito with the same team thank you.
    I might do the same Crit Ratio to my other DPS
    Edit : I tried the recommended ratio on my go to team on the abyss and oh god i cleared it faster than usual
    1st half Nahida, Yelan, Kuki and Alhaitam
    2nd half Raiden, Benny, Xiangling and Xinqiu
    I sacrificed high crit damage on Raiden, Yelan and Xinqiu. Now they have both 1 to 2 crit ratio with lower crit damage but the improvements are noticeable
    Note : I did it with the same cards

    i havent watched the full video yet but as a casual player and consistently plays abyss, i think ER and atk% are very valuable rolls. having a good crit ratio is all nice but without the er, you dont have a good rotation in the abyss and it will definitely affect your entire gameplay especially fighting single enemies

    These kind of videos are always so hard for me to grasp, for the sole reason that you can't just allocate your stats wherever you want, and it can take weeks, if not months to get a set like those (even just a 60/120, which I only have one of, my main that i've been using close to a year now, very consistently)
    I think even the 50/100 is pretty hard to reach for casuals...

      This is why I always keep an artifact that rolled in nothing but high amounts of potentially useful stats. If an artifact got a few rolls into crit rate or dmg and managed to get something greater than or equal to 15%atk, 15%def, 15%hp, or 18%ER, I will keep it because these are the main stats that Mihoyo has been focusing on when creating characters these days. Especially if the set bonus plays well with the extra rolls in non-CV stats.
      If I'm unsure what to keep for a particular character, then I will keep all options until I am able to test the character's dps/burst uptime myself using every piece I wanted to try out. The thing to keep in mind is that you don't have the same teammate builds these content creators have, so your best build for the character may differ slightly depending on how the rest of your team is built.

    I always struggle with figuring out if more stat atk/def/hp is better than crit R or crit D so I just use the Stone Mitachurl near the teleport waypoint to the norhtwest of Liyue to check. The poor dude has been my testing dummy since the first time I discovered him.

    When it comes to dps characters im not an expert on CV, but i tend to keep the 1:2 Crit ratio between CR and CD, and in which case i normally upgrade my artifacts to level 16 maximum to see how well it goes considering how many non-useful sub-stats for the character the piece gets, and then i decide if i keep leveling it up or not, if its pretty bad then i use it to upgrade better artifacts, or as temporary ones for characters that i need a quick build on, as for Supports and Healers is normally more easy since there's no need for CV yet the game makes it hard for you to find the exact sub stats you need, like EM, Healing Bonus, ER, HP, DEF or ATK, even harder when a chracater needs to balance more than 2 o 3 of these between all 5 artifacts

    one way to view it is that you could spend months getting 40+ cv artifacts for 1 character.
    but you could easily get 20-30 cv artifacts good attk% and ER for many more characters in that time.
    my 2nd abyss team still suffers because i tried to perfect my 1st team lol

    • @phoenixlau

      Why not both? Multiple character sets like Blizzard/Emblem/Noblesse/etc. get filtered down. Every time I get an upgrade at the top or rolls "fail", those below can also get upgraded.

    I prefer staying around 60-70 CRIT rate and 130-150 CRIT damage, I try to give a bit more crit damage than the 2:1 ratio, after switching artifacts to test CV I found those ratio to produce the best results in my account, the reason is that its easier to obtain artifacts to achieve this stats and stack atk%

    Now I'm less worried about my Xiao build. 89/196 CRT, with some Atk% substats. Hoping to replace some of the artifacts to The Chasm's domain's set and get a couple of ER substats. However I play him with my Kazuha on the same team so energy hasn't been a problem.

    to me as long i get 50% crit rate it is more than enough. it is actually very difficult to get 50% from just artifacts alone. my circlet is always crit dmg instead for more dmg.

    The 1:2 ratio is correct for the final value of your character's crit. but people leave out the fact that crit rate is more valuable on artifacts/weapons due to your character having a 1:10 ratio by default. Character's have base stats of 5% crit rate and 50% crit damage. so the CV of an artifact should be more weighted toward crit rate

    As a fairly newer player of 3 months now, I was conditioned pretty early to only look for CV from most videos/guides. I learned quickly from building characters once I started the 5* artifact grind that there was a lot more to it but this video solidified everything I was thinking. Great video

    My Ganyu is built in 2 ways
    1st build:
    Attack: 2100+
    Crit Dmg: 210
    2nd build:
    Attack 2400+
    Crit Dmg: 160+
    The 2nd build actually did more damage. And therefore, do not sleep on Atk% circlet if you manage to reach 50-60+ Crit Rate

    XD I loved when you use the right DPS :,D many was missleading using big numbers to say "this is more DPS" but in practice doing the maths a Hu Tao doing constant CA was dealing twice DPS values than Eula just because she did a 600k hit.

    Thanks for the video, but tbh probably going to keep aiming for the highest 1:2 ratio if only for simplicity. I understand from the video that cv isn't always better than er or atk%, but determining when is still too confusing. Genshin's great and I hope I 36* abyss eventually, but I can't justify tedious artifact testing on a game that objectively consumes too much of my time.

    Even though I got lucky on a Aqua Simulacra from my Yelan and changed from a Polar Star and my artifacts to give her Boom-boom numbers on her crit value, I also only had a decent ER Sands that I had to substitute for her HP one and she lost about 10k HP. So I notice the numbers aren't that much different. I think I fell into this lust for CV and so thank you for this informative video to wake me up a bit!
