I don't understand why everyone is so pissed. Tame Impala and Kevin Parker are making tons of money off of Rihanna's cover. Plus they get more exposure to a mainstream audience. It's a win win situation. The band obviously doesn't care, or else they wouldn't of intentionally sent the original backing track over to Rihanna so she could record her own vocals over it.
I actually thought I would hate this, but I think it's really good. I think it's really smart from her not making big changes, just adding a little bit of her voice, it's subtle, it's just a touch. I like it. Sorry for the bad english.
People have been hating on this cover. It's actually not bad. If anything, she didn't change the essence of this song and I feel like her voice vibes well with the music.
To everyone saying it's a joke: stop being so butthurt. Even if you don't like this version it's bringing new fans to Tame Impala. Besides, it's just a cover, no stealing or bad modifications were done. I feel like it's a song Rihanna liked and wanted to cover, so why does that make it any different than all the other covers out there?
+Felix Robinson Rihanna brining more fans to Tame Impala is always a positive. But where's Rihanna's artistic integrity? She could've made this song her own. And who knows, she might have been able to make it better than the original. But she took the path of least resistance and decided show off her KARAOKE skills. Rihanna oozes talent, more is expect from her.
+King Sloth Her covering a song is not being creative? She literally only "stole" one song and put it in her album. Your acting like she copies people style and jack its hers. Your being butthurt for nothing.
if she had bought the rights, then why didn't she name the song like it is New Person, Same Old Mistakes? it sounds like she only could do the 'karaoke' version because either she didn't get them or maybe it was her choice to change it, but I don't think she has the right to I prefer the original anyways
“That was pretty surreal,” he recalls of the moment his manager messaged him. “I remember reading it a couple of times. It seemed so way out that Rihanna was going to use the song on her album. Funnily enough I kind of imagined the song to be an R&B singer’s song in the first place. That’s how a lot of Tame Impala songs start out - as ideas for songs I could potentially give to someone else. I think of them with a different persona in mind, it’s just a subconscious way of not being bound by what you think you are as an artist. When he first conjured up the melody, Parker thought it sounded like American R&B girl group TLC. It makes perfect sense when he starts singing a TLC-style “nah-nah-nah” to demonstrate. “Hearing the Rihanna version, it made me realise that the song finally got the treatment it deserved from the beginning. It went full circle.” - Kevin Parker
The band you like gets some mainstream exposure from one of the biggest artists in the business and instead of being happy for them, you complain about it. Some people just don't want to see others grow. What, are you afraid they'll get "2mainstream4u"?

I think it's pretty insane how offended people are by this cover. Yeah, when you picture Rihanna singing this at a KTV it seems a little cheesy, but IMO it's more of an homage to Tame Impala and a testament to Kevin Parker's artistry and wide appeal. I'm guessing Rihanna loved this song not just for the songwriting, but also because so many of the elements that define Tame Impala: its amazing, meticulous production, its unique sound, and vibrant color - Rihanna knew that the song was already "perfect" and that any changes or reinterpretation of it would have made people still say "ah the original is better". It's a damned if you, damned if you don't situation and I think Rihanna was very brave and pretty baller to cover this song, especially since Tame Impala (at the time) was not necessarily a popular group amongst fans of her genre of music. Just my two cents
I'm glad that she covered this song, but in my opinion she didn't add anything TO it. The original is just as good if not better. It's great that Rihanna is a genuine artist that appreciates art, but i don't see a point to this other than to cover a great song.
+MillieBee24 she liked it the way it was. If she paid for copy rights then she reserved the right to do that. And every other song is fire so I don't see why minimal laziness is a big issue
I think everyone has their panties in a bunch because Rihanna is affiliated with mainstream music and all the negative connotations that go all along with it. How about just appreciate she did a cover of an awesome band and exposed their music to a larger audience for fuck sake.

Heard tame impala is one man named kevin parker.. he does it all.. then hires a band just to help him make the sounds in it’s entirety. “Live”. That’s crazy,, Also heard all his gear got burned in that massive California fire that torched paradise city. Man big ups to that man. Sonically on a Kanye wave length.. but just in a whole other genre of ear pleasure!!
See, I heard this song at work and I SWORE I heard a female voice but when I looked it up, it was Tame Impala. Now I know I'm not crazy lol. Love both versions.
was hearing of the name "Rihanna" here and there. just typed her name after seeing the comments in the original tame impala video. in fact its a fan made video depicting men falling in love with the sirens (post-modern women, "redpill" shameless plug ). anyway I think American music industry if FUCKED UP. I see over 600 million views for some type of ghetto pimp rapper named "Khaled" featuring this woman Rihanna yet Americans have never heard of these European and oceanic bands in their lives. all your popular songs are similar, dull, distasteful and generic. nothing experimental. its like a day and night difference when you compare French charts to American charts. its like somehow this black/latin ghetto culture of hiphop and repetitive aggression had its way all to the top due to your nations fatal illness of political correctness towards blacks and women. what happened to the art of music? I guess this is a demand issue obviously, quality of education plays a very important role in a societies' tastes.
I can just hear them now "How could you let us down?" But they don't know what I found Or see it from this way around Feeling it overtake All that I used to hate Worried 'bout every trait I tried but it's way too late All the signs I don't read Two sides of me can't agree When I breathe in too deep Going with what I always longed for [Chorus 1] Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) Well, I don’t care I’m in love (Stop before it’s too late) Feel like a brand new person (But you make the same old mistakes) I finally know what it's like (You don’t have what it takes) (Stop before it’s not too late) (I know there’s too much at stake) (Making the same mistakes) And I still don’t know why it’s happening (Stop while it’s not too late) And I still don’t know
The funniest part to me is the people arguing here. As if because Rihanna sells more records, she's better. Or one version is better than the other. To me, not much of a fan of either, it's literally the same damn song. Kind of wish Rihannas version would have brought a little more power to the vocals, or did something different with it. After all, isn't she wanting to be, or supposed to be a "diva"? I mean, if this were flipped around, Rihanna did the original and some independent artist simply threw the same song on their album, I'd imagine Rihanna fans would be calling a whole lot of BS on that. Obviously if you like either one of these versions, you like both of these versions. If you didn't, it would be like you saying you liked the first time you heard the song, but fell out of it the second time you heard it. Or you weren't sure you liked it the first time, but after hearing it again, you liked it more. Just a bit sad that the music industry can just pass off the same exact song and call it a day. I've got to imagine that Tame Impala were paid well for the copy of their song.
Did you ever think maybe Rihanna relates to this song as a fan? She's obviously made some mistakes, and probably likes the song. Not everyone is trying to steal another artist's chance at fame, some of them are actually artists doing their best to pay homage. If anything, she introduced Tame Impala to a whole crowd of people who've never heard of them. I think it's cool she made this cover.
I was pretty disappointed. I really expected maybe her take on the song, but it's the exact same and... I think she sings it well, but if it's just going to be the same song, I want to listen to the Tame Impala version IMO.
I can't imagine how awesome it would feel to put out a song and have Rihanna cover it and not make changes (surgery) on my song......that must be one heavy rush! 😮 😘
for those of you on the bitch-fest about how she didn't change anything, when you sing this song do you change anything about it? Rihanna can be a fan girl, too, you know. She loved the song as it was and wanted to cover it, pretty big compliment to have another artist, especially a fairly popular one, say your song is perfect and I don't need to make it better by "tweaking it". And it's not like she doesn't have enough original songs of her own.
I’m a tame impala fan and usually I hate remixes of any artist because I think it’s dumb to cover something that’s already been made but this is just beautiful
New Voice, Same Old Song

Kevin Parker should produce Rihanna's next album, would be a good match.
Exactly what I thought

It's an amazing song she just put literally zero effort in this song it's literally a copy and paste from another artist
+RahDavis But... It feels like I'm going backwards.
+Steven Smith its a cover..........she wasn't trying to change anything .............. or make it originally hers ........

Here I am a Tame Impala fan, coming over here to hear this beautiful cover and loving Rihanna a little bit more for it.
Pretty nice, but I just wished her voice was louder over the instrumental
I think the quiet is part of the mood tho
I love both Riri's and Tame's version!
well they are 99% the same
This song makes me feel like I'm in a deep meditative state...
I feel like Kevin has more emotion when he sings it which makes it more real.
+Brandy Eklund i know that you think it's fake

you nailed it.
Brandy Eklund
her annoying nasally voice ruins the song

Or see it from this way around
Feeling it overtake
All that I used to hate
Worried 'bout every trait
I tried but it's way too late
All the signs I don't read
Two sides of me can't agree
When I breathe in too deep
Going with what I always longed for
Feel like a brand new person (but you make the same old mistakes)
I don’t care I’m in love (stop before it’s too late)
Feel like a brand new person (but you make the same old mistakes)
I finally know what is love (you don’t have what it takes)
(Stop before it’s not too late)
(I know there’s too much at stake)
(Making the same mistakes)
And I still don’t know why it’s happening
(Stop while it’s not too late) And I still don’t know
Finally taking flight
I know you don't think it's right
I know that you think it's fake
Maybe fake's what I like
Point is I have the right
I'm thinking in black and white
Thinking it's worth the fight
Soon to be out of sight
Knowing it all this time
Going with what I always longed for
Feel like a brand new person (but you make the same old mistakes)
I don’t care I’m in love (stop before it’s too late)
Feel like a brand new person (but you make the same old mistakes)

Man, I know that it is hard to digest
But maybe this story ain’t so different from the rest
And I know it seems wrong to accept
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
And I know that it's hard to digest
A realization is as good as a guess
And I know it seems wrong to accept
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
But you've got your demons, and she's got her regrets
Feel like a brand new person
So how will I know that it's right?
In a new direction
So how will I know I've gone too far?
Stop thinking you're the only option (feel like a brand new person)
I finally know what it's like
Stop thinking you're the only option, oh (in a new direction)
So how will I know I've gone too far?
Stop thinking you're the only option (feel like a brand new person)
And I don't know how to describe
Stop thinking you're the only option
(But you make the same old mistakes)
(You don’t have what it takes)
(Stop before it’s too late)
Stop thinking you're the only option
I finally know what it's like (stop before it’s too late)
Stop thinking you're the only option

Heard tame impala is one man named kevin parker.. he does it all.. then hires a band just to help him make the sounds in it’s entirety. “Live”. That’s crazy,, Also heard all his gear got burned in that massive California fire that torched paradise city. Man big ups to that man. Sonically on a Kanye wave length.. but just in a whole other genre of ear pleasure!!
See, I heard this song at work and I SWORE I heard a female voice but when I looked it up, it was Tame Impala. Now I know I'm not crazy lol. Love both versions.
Tame Impala's version is better
Gilberto Alanís yes. Thank. You.
That's because it's literally their song, this is just a cover.
Feel like a brand new bus
Uhhh.. title is misleading and backwards dude... Rihanna covered this song. This song is originally Tame Impala's.
Why are there so many salty musical Einstein’s out here? You guys need to chill lol
This is not a cover...just female vocals on the original. Tame Impala kills it! Rihanna go back to your field...that's not your style!
was hearing of the name "Rihanna" here and there. just typed her name after seeing the comments in the original tame impala video. in fact its a fan made video depicting men falling in love with the sirens (post-modern women, "redpill" shameless plug ). anyway I think American music industry if FUCKED UP.
Barış Manço dönence şarkısının melodisine benziyor
WHY THE FUCK DIDNT I KNOW RIHANNA HAD A VERSION !!!!! 😤😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
you guys should know Rihanna did not write this song. Tame Impala did.
I can just hear them now
"How could you let us down?"
But they don't know what I found
Or see it from this way around
Feeling it overtake
All that I used to hate
Worried 'bout every trait
I tried but it's way too late
All the signs I don't read
Two sides of me can't agree
When I breathe in too deep
Going with what I always longed for
[Chorus 1]
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
Well, I don’t care I’m in love
(Stop before it’s too late)
Feel like a brand new person
(But you make the same old mistakes)
I finally know what it's like
(You don’t have what it takes)
(Stop before it’s not too late)
(I know there’s too much at stake)
(Making the same mistakes)
And I still don’t know why it’s happening
(Stop while it’s not too late)
And I still don’t know
The funniest part to me is the people arguing here.
I loved the fact that Kevin actually aproved it 😑👌
i came here bc of twitter but i literally cant tell that it’s any different from the original and now im confused
if she had changed it too much, yall would've complained. she didn't change much, you still complain. get over ur selves lmao.
for those of you on the bitch-fest about how she didn't change anything, when you sing this song do you change anything about it? Rihanna can be a fan girl, too, you know. She loved the song as it was and wanted to cover it, pretty big compliment to have another artist, especially a fairly popular one, say your song is perfect and I don't need to make it better by "tweaking it". And it's not like she doesn't have enough original songs of her own.
I would had liked that she made bigger changes. Her voice is almost unnoticeable, its mixed with his
I’m a tame impala fan and usually I hate remixes of any artist because I think it’s dumb to cover something that’s already been made but this is just beautiful
