Purchased a refurb tivo ota Roamio that's about 5 years old w lifetime subscription (1 time subscription purchase upfront with hardware purchase to avoid monthly subscription payments). It works great recording ota shows, shows record timely. About a year upgraded to an external roof mount ota antenna that improved my experience due to poor reception periodically happening with several interior cheap antennas I had. Even though myTivo needs a good internet signal either hardwired or wifi (I am using wifi) to keep the guide current and to receive messages, as well as if you use any of the tivo streaming apps like Amazon prime or RUclips. The updates daily around 2am. When updates fail because internet connect to the device fails, my system guide starts recording shows at the wrong times. Ensure your tivo local time matches real time and your internet connection to device is updating in the settings menu. I love my old tivo, ordered a new newer model with similar features for the day it stops working.
tiVo quality and customer service is going downhill very fast. I have my boxes now, but when they die and I no longer replaceable under warranty and I can’t just fix them by replacing the hard drives, they will be going. I will not be purchasing anything new from them.
Agreed. But to be fair, cable companies are phasing out QAM Fast! Optimum doesn’t use QAM on their fiber, xfinity is going all IP, Verizon is phasing out QAM on their NGPON2. It’s not just their quality, their demise is very very soon
Have you thought about getting the TiVo edge with lifetime service? I just bought it at Channel Master for 299.00 bucks with lifetime service. That’s with it on sale and with a coupon code. It’s still pricey at 299 but cheaper than the original asking price of 450…which is a rip IMO. I don’t know if the coupons are active anymore or if the sale is still on or what your price range is, but the 299 deal was pretty good IMO. It’s a good device and I’m mostly going to use it to record football.
I should’ve done that for my in laws but now we have to dish out even more money for the lifetime. I got rid of my TiVo, wanted to keep it but we just didn’t watch anything anymore.
I just bought a tivo 57H on Marketplace so that i can record football games. I cannot figure out how to hook the darn thing up and get it going. Did i waste my money? I have cable but no box--just a roku.
@@brendaradloff6995 that is a REALLY old TiVo lol. It’s gonna be antenna only, with the added bonus it has a built in DVD player. Not sure if it will work still though given it’s age but it’s DEFINITELY a cool device. It WILL still work with antennas given it came with a digital tuner. I just don’t know if TiVo will still provide channel guide date for it still What issues are you having?
@@brendaradloff6995 you hook up antenna into the RF in port in the back of the TiVo. Then you need to get component cables and plug into the back of the TiVo named “component out” and into the back of your television. But newer TVs will need an adapter for component in, or won’t have component in ports at all and you’ll have to buy a “component to hdmi” adapter on Amazon. Do you have the model number of your TV? There’s a label in the back of the set
Fios is finally in my building. They put an ont box in my building hallway(I think that’s what it is) over a year ago but now finally I can order. I’ve read conflicting things about cable cards no longer being supported. So gonna have to find out if I can still use my tivo edge if I switch over to them. I’m someone who just can’t cut the cord.
I hear ya, it was really hard to cut the cord. FiOS has no issues with CableCARDs at all. It was Sh!tC@st that gave me the headaches & couldn’t pair any CableCARD to my tivos with them
If you’re using antenna then yes. If you’re using with cable, buy it used. Cable companies are getting rid of CableCARD in the near future so only buy it used to save money
Can someone explain to me is the subcription 14.99 or 100 or 600 plans once i subcirbed to one of those i get netflix sling disney abc etc all included already wich i dont have to pay or subcrive individualy?? or do i still have to pay monthy for netflix wich is 14.99 and disney 7.99 sling 30.00.
It’s separate. It’s not compatible with Sling or Disney+ apps. It does have Netflix app built in but again a separate subscription. The TiVo service fees is for them to maintain the channel guide & updates to your TiVo for Cable or Antenna TV watching. The $600 fee is you pay once and THATS it, no more TiVo fees ever. But it stays with the box. If you buy a new TiVo, that lifetime service DOES NOT Transfer. We know we know, it’s stupid that they don’t support Disney+ or sling but people don’t want to pay for cable anymore so there is no incentive to keep modernizing TiVo boxes. Sling TV service REPLACES your cable TV or antenna so if you opt for Sling TV instead of Xfinity, Spectrum TV service, then DO NOT BUY TiVo, buy a Roku or Apple TV
If you buy TiVo mins also, they MUST be paired with a main TiVo box that has the TiVo service fee paid. So if you have lots of TVs in the house, you save money because you are not paying TiVo service fee PER TV. But the TiVo Minis are expensive so you choose

It does but you’ll have to manually type in the channel, start & end time to record

The issue is that I don't know how to hook it up and use it. I have an antennae. Will I hook that into the tivo box or the TV? Then what?

Mine works absolutely Feckin Awesome. 45 channels just find optima antenna direction.

I have the TiVo edge, and they've completely nurfed the box. I can't record shows, nothing Its crazy because I paid $300 for the 1 TB DVR.
