      Tivo Skip Mode is a great feature when it works. I've had numerous occasions when Skip Mode did not work so had to fast forward through the commercials. I am using Tivo Roamaio with 4 tuners, so I can record 4 shows at once. If Skip Mode would work 100% , this would be a great product, but sometimes the ski[p mode was not added to a program that should have Skip Mode.

    I had been watching for a Tivo for several years to replace my Channel Master DVR+. With the sale and additional $50 off, I bought it.
    The tuner in this is excellent. Better than the DRV+, Toshiba, Samsung, and LG TVs. I use a rotor on the antenna and since getting the Tivo I've not had to turn the antenna. It's pulling in weak signals from 3 different areas (Pittsburgh, Johnstown & State College) without readjusting the antenna. The RUclips app on this is excellent too. I don't know what they do with the app, but it's a lot faster than the other RUclips apps I use on other streaming devices. Very happy I purchased this (through the link)
    Also, thanks for putting me on to WOWY! I LOVE that station!
    Thanks Tyler!

    Getting a Tivo for recording OTA was a great transition tool when we cut the cord in 2011. Been using Tivo with Lifetime service ever since. Don't know how long Tivo service will exist but will hang with them as long as we can. Watching and sharing recorded programs from other Tivo units in the house is a great feature too.

    • @dishmanw
      @dishmanw 2 года назад

      Does the Tivo rely heavily on the network?
      I had purchased a Tablo Quad w/HDMI thinking that it wouldn't use my WIFI, however during heavy WIFI usage, I noticed that there was heavy buffering. I'm afraid that if I purchase the Tivo that I'll run into the same situation.

    • @bricknboxer
      @bricknboxer 2 года назад +1

      @@dishmanw Sharing programs between Tivo units is done across wifi. The guide info comes from the internet. Tivo has tried hard to be an "all in one" DVR and streaming unit. They seem to always be behind in the streaming department. Some ppl knock them for this but if you only rely on them for DVR functions they shine. We use Roku or the smart tv to stream content. A four tuner Tivo Roamio for OTA with LIfetime service
      is an ideal unit to buy just for DVR. It's easily upgraded to larger hard drives, more durable than other newer Tivo units like the Tivo Bolt or Tivo Edge.

    I purchased a TiVo Edge from Channel Master last year. Great unit. I actually am using two antennas to get stations from two different markets, and the Tivo gives me the correct guide information for all of the channels I receive. It works much better than the Channel Master DVR+ that it replaced. I would highly recommend getting one if you use an antenna for your main TV viewing like we do.

    Hey Tyler! You did a great job of overall explaining how the TiVo works. I use a TiVo Bolt OTA which isn't really much different. I love the layout of the menus, ease of setting up One Passes for shows, the guide, etc. The Bolt will also upscale to 4K like the Edge even though shows are normally 720p or 1080i. My Bolt OTA has 4 tuners and a 3TB hard drive, and it does cost me $7.53 per month to run it, but I don't mind the storage space, even though I've never exceeded 13% yet. The deal you have on the Edge with the "all-in" is a great deal, but I really need the 4 tuners, but a great value for many! There are many used Bolts on eBay, but you must be careful as there are older models of it that are outdated. The current Bolt OTA also has the "voice remote" which I never use. Mine is set to IR remote mode so I could "teach" my Universal RF10 remote with which I can run everything in my system just by feel. Also worthy to note; the SKIP feature is hit or miss. It gets information from the network to provide "skip" information for the TiVo. The SKIP isn't always available even on Prime Time main network shows, which gripes me some nights. But, you can report the shows missing SKIP or incorrect SKIP information here: survey.confirmit.com/wix/1/p3075425841.aspx Another note on SKIP, is that it can be set to manual or automatic which is nice. I also really like how quick you can turn CC on and off and change SKIP from auto to manual or vice versa just by hitting the "Info" button while watching a show. The apps are pretty limited so I don't use it for that purpose, but instead use a Roku Premiere which has much more up to date apps. available on it. For the most updated apps. with TiVo, they have the TiVo 4K Stream device. But for OTA recording, you just cannot go wrong with the Bolt or the Edge, they're wonderful units!

    I have had the TiVo Romano OTA since 2017. I paid about $349 with all in service then for the 1TB version. I did add a cable card slot to it and used it for limited basic cable with Comcast for a while but now I'm on OTA and finally getting an outdoor antenna Up this week.
    The TiVo I think was and might still be the Cadalic of cord cutting devices. I have all the features like commercial skip on my older unit. Every thing works like you said. Your review is very accurate. I don't even use the smart apps on my tv because the TiVo is so convenient. The TiVo+ streaming service is a nice little add we got recently but I mostly use Netflix for streaming and Plex for streaming my own collection of movies and shows off a PC. The TiVo edge would have faster processing power but I don't think I'd buy it to replace my tivo until they have ATSC 3.0 capability.
    One thing that is nice about the TiVo is the companion devices like the TiVo mini. I have one in my bedroom and it brings all the live tv and recorded show to a 2nd tv plus is also a streaming device too.

To get the guide it will cost $75 a year - definitely worth it. Mine scans for area channels and displays extras I can't receive, but I can just uncheck those, as shown in the video. Also, not all programs have the skip option - fast forward works great in that case. There is now an option to automatically use the skip function without having to use the remote each time.
