  • Next week will mark the beginning of the second AKC Classical Intensive: Seeking Satori. This time, we have partnered with our friends at Sāraswatham Foundation & EnArt Consulting.
Akram Khan and Mavin Khoo will be making their way to the South Indian city of Kumbakonam for a week full of practice and reflection alongside a selection of current generation performing artists (12 Kathak dancers and 12 Bharatanatyam dancers), plus special 8 'observers' spanning dancers, producers, curators and writers. The programme has been curated to facilitate a space of immersion; to delve into the unknown.
The AKC Classical Intensive programme began in 2019, and the first edition was hosted at Sadler’s Wells (London) in November 2019.
Ahead of the Company's return to India, we invite you to explore this clip of Akram and Mavin - titled The Surrendering Clown - taken from our specially curated anniversary film The Silent Burn Project (2020). Together, they reflect on their sense of duty in providing an opportunity for Indian classical dancers to re-immerse and re-invest themselves into the traditions and values that sit within the framework of classicism in Indian Dance and Music practice.
