People say you need to overfill the gearbox to 2l so that the 5th gear gets propper lubrication. Glad to see your progress! It's motivating me to make more vids on my Niva
Hey, well done so far. The system for testing and taxing imported cars is very complex in Denmark it seems so again well done. I am sure all your followers will always be here for you as your uploads are very good and well presented. You will get it done in the end, I for one will be waiting for your latest automotive adventure. From Nr Liverpool UK, many thanks.
Congrats on passing MOT. My sincere suggestion is to put bitumen on the underwings and also get plastic covers for them, they are cheap (got all four for around 50 euros) but those two things really helps preventing rust, especially if you are driving it in wet conditions or salty roads. Keep it up sir!
Haha. Twenty years ago when I took my MG Montego Turbo for its "whilst you wait" MoT appointment, the tester told me his Rollers had packed up. He used a decelerator meter instead. Old school solution and not only did it work, but the car passed the Test. I still have that car. Some of your fellow countrymen had MG Montegos back then. I helped them obtain spare parts sometimes difficult to obtain in your country. They even sent me images of their cars. Can you make up a strong reinforcement bracket to make the Tow Bat pass inspection? You appear to have the kit, tools and skills to make that possible. Please keep this interesting stuff coming. That way we all learn.
Hip hip hooray!! You (or was it the Niva?) did well! And regarding your discription of driving the car: niva a dull moment 😂. Enjoy and i wish you many safe km’s
Hi! I enjoy your channel and philosophy on driving different cars and enjoying them then selling to the next owner, so they can have fun with them. I awe so sell my cars with low or no profit, but am happy to report that all of them are still on the road. Like mi 1992 citroen bx estate, my 1980 Gaz 24 Volga, my 1986 fiat regata and so on! Regarding the Niva, the decision for the gear box is easy. Next time drive the car in 4-th gear. If you like it put the 4 speed if you don't fix up the 5 speed. The 4-th gear on all Russian cars is 1 to 1 in 4th gear. Only the 5-th gear is 0.82 to 1. Reliability wise i vote for the 4 speed! The engine is not the most powerful one so a shorter geared gearbox is better. Some people say to change to 5-th after 90-100 km/h and to overfill the 5 speed gearbox with oil (because the 5 gear has an inherited oil starvation problem). Have fun and many miles ahead!
These puns Niva seize to amaze me! Great to see the Niva passing the MOT! Fit the 4 speed gearbox and save up for a tow bar, and you’ll be all set! Did you manage to get rid of the smell? Looking forward to seeing the niva on the road!
really great video ,but ooo its sounds expensive in Denmark ,a uk MOT can be done for around 45 euros and we think its expensive.I hope you are going to work on the Mehari next I love the A series Citroen's
Normal MOT is around 50 euroes... But when they need to be imported ( non danish papers) it costs 135... and if it does not pass first time it will be another 45 ;)
If the transmission is weak by design and in need of some major service, yeah, it'd be easier to throw the 4-speed in (as long as it's not broken itself!!!), I say "easier" like it's just a quick job, given it's a lot of work to drop a transmission in most cars... :S
Just a normal workshop with an articulated Niva and a dismantled Mehari in the corner - nothing to see here please move along Ladies and Gentlemen please move along ha ha
Great result! I could see the car finished in camouflage, different shades of grey.
The Lada Shall pass the MOT! :-P Great News Seppo!
Spot on , all the hard work and effort you have put in to it has paid of.
This is great news buddy! Well done. All your hard work paid off! :) and doesnt it look better with the standard grille. Much smarter! :)

Yes I heard that! But it wont fix the 4 gear right now... but important to do apparently!

Thank you Volga.... Uhhh a bx estate! I am very jealous!
Yea the 4 speed seems to be a pretty good solution really...
hand paint it in red oxide with matt black bumpers, then if you want a better colour its mostly prepped
Tillykke og velkommen i nysynet-klubben!🤘
Tak Volvoman!
