amazing video. I loved it. I just noticed a few mistakes you made and decided to point them out to help you, still a great video, though ❤️:
    • You moved to agrarianism too quickly because of the bureaucracy deficit
    • I like to get rid of poor laws straight away for more money
    • I like to build more construction than 50 at the start so I can expand my economy quicker
    • lower the autonomy of Joseon straight away so you get more tax from them
    • You shouldn't have max gold reserves because all the money goes to waste (I like to stay around the 25% full gold reserves)
    • You also tried to get of monarchy way to quickly causing that massive civil war (which you were extremely lucky to win)
    • When a revolution is about to happen, there's a number in brackets next to it, and if that's lower than 100, then the revolution will never pop
    • You can use your authority to bolster or suppress different interest groups

    • @SmithySmith
      @SmithySmith  4 месяца назад +18

Thanks for your pointers. I didn't really notice the poor laws until I removed them so I totally agree. The construction was mainly due to a lack of cash, I don't really remember having max good reserves at any point. With the civil war, yeah i agree that it was a little stupid, but I got what I wanted soooo. And even though it didn't make the video I did use authority at the start to bolster the industrialists

no,no,no. china should aim for single party state and then council or presidential republic. set workers rights to none, wage subsidides to none, and dissent laws to outlaw dissents. this is historiacl and why they are such a huge menance today.

Great video, really enjoyed it. i have a few suggestions for your future playthroughs
    1) focus your industries, by not centralizing them, you failed to utilize the throughput bonus and that makes a huge cumulative impact. also try and localize production chains as MAPI basically punishes you for moving goods outside a province
    2) dont use labour saving pms nor rail transportation as that employs less people (when playing as china, labour is almost infinite so you should focus on giving people jobs rather than making the existing jobs more efficient)
3)get rid of unemployment, Unemployed people are a drain on your economy, with them causing unrest and getting paid for their social benefits.(so allowing internal migration and focusing your building in states with unemployment.
    4) get rid of peasants, they consume only 10% of what a regular POP does and give very little in terms of taxes. Best way to do this is to build lumber yards and rice farms.
    5) remember to build lots of basic consumer goods(rice, lumber , clothing and groceries), you showed how labourers had a really bad SoL whilst peasants had a really high one. that happens because basic goods that peasants produce are expensive whilst the labourers cant afford to buy them. you want the reverse situation so that the peasants are encouraged to work in industry.
    6) switch to better tax laws as soon as they are profitable, because of how tax burden and SoL demand orders work, the more progressive the tax, the more demand for goods in your economy> more GDP.
so in summary , get rid of unemployed pops, then peasants and only when you run out of people do you use labour saving PM's. build out your economy with a MASSIVE amount of wood production and rice farms(until they dont employ because they cant make a profit). liberalize as fast as you can as it will help your economy which will make further reform easier.
there are many more things(use more institutions and overbuilding universities), but those are the main ones. Hope this helps

The reason I ended the video so abruptly was that the game was taking too long to film due to the slower game speeds. I'd already recorded the video over 3 days already and didn't want it to keep going onto a 4th day just to get the last 10 or so years. I hope you enjoyed it despite the ending.

One main problem I always feel whenever i try to play China is that a lot of the most logical early reforms (some form of education and dedicated police force) are insistutions, every level of institutions in China is insane cost cause of the comically large population compared to almost every other country in the game, at least at starting date.

As someone who's done a ton of China runs, a couple things I noticed: 1) Get rid of poor laws first. It saves you so much in terms of bureaucracy and money. 2) The correct play in the opium wars is to ask for war reparations and force recognition and then navally invade Singapore with your smallest army in a one boat fleet. Great Britain almost never garrisons it so you can take it and force ticking war score. Then its just a matter of just waiting until your position is bad enough that you need to declare white peace or waiting until Britain has to accept war reparations and recognition.

Smithy love the video and a few lucky breaks only half way through the video but love what you are doing the one thing I noticed tho is you didn't know about the expenses of your country it goes week by week for your economy and needs for industry and the time on top right with the gold bar is the tick or turn used in that time. Victoria 3 amazing game and would like to stream again as I do alright and have a good understanding on how to control the world

Why you had such a high budget deficit: I reckon it has to do with the poor laws the Qing start with, which causes you to pay tons in unemployment subsidies. It's better to repeal this law asap and that also frees up around 4k bureaucracy, which can be used to either colonise or enact a first level of police or education

Sadly, the professional army actually boosts the landowner clout when there are many aristocrats.
Peasant levies attract them to the armed forces, because they can become officers, so under PA more aristocrats stay with the landlords.

A somewhat gamey tip is to trade Tomsk for Alaska early game. While Alaska itself isn't great (except for its gold), it gives you a foothold in the Americas and you can actually beat up Canada to take a land bridge with the US (if they become a pain or if you want to force recognition on them after you fix up your military... tho unless you manage to take British Columbia off Canada without fighting the UK, you really should have already forced recognition from the UK anyways...).
Oh, and never get a revolution in Qing. The rebels will *always* outnumber you and ruin all your armies and economy.

Great video, but one thing I would say is, moving from Peasant Levies -> Professional Army actually cements more power to the Landowners than staying - Professional Army means that the Armed Forces get less support from non-army pops. The increased support from Army pops is counteracted by the millions of political strength from the ~30% aristocratic support for the Forces on peasant levies who the mostly defect to the Landowners.
There's a great video on this here: ruclips.net/video/dLJAG8F6GIo/видео.html , using Russia (a similar example because of the massive population base).

Very nice video but seeing you have such a massive (albeit primitive) military and not using it to force your neighbours to become tributaries or lower autonomy was difficult to watch. You have a massive population, use it to crush your neighbours and get some tributary money out of it that you can use to invest in your economy. The lower the autonomy, the higher your tax revenue from them, and your military was mostly sitting around anyways.
