I had an online relationship and we loved each other beyond words. He dedicated this song to me . We never met... one day he said he was done. I never heard from him again. This song guts me beyond words.
It always gets me, when I see someone didn't take that leap of faith - with a healthy shove from love - into the unknown. I did, a few times, from online to reality. It just seems cruel to rob the reality after promising it for too long. I've flown all over the world just to make sure we tasted our promised reality...it's always worth it.
I've been in that same situation When he hung up, i couldn't breathe. I ran around my house like a lunatic panicking, at the time I thought I was dying. Love online indeed exists even though we've never met that person. It's always a great loss.
It sounds to me like they don't know what is important in music. You don't need a perfect voice. His music is unique and that is all what matters. Most of his music is better than 50% of the songs today😁
Damien Rice is amazing. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I listen to it almost everyday. Pure talent from Damien & Lisa. Even if you're not into this type of music you must appreciate the heart & soul that Damien is pouring out, its something rarely seen anymore.
I got the privilege to see him perform this in a small venue in Columbus, Ohio back in 2015. He showed up two hours late, drunk out of his mind, and everyone was pretty pissed. Then he opened his mouth and absolutely KILLED IT as a one man show for the night. It was incredible. Don't even care that my legs were already jello before the concert started, LOL. I was 6 feet from him and in heaven. When he performed The Box, the audience was in tears-- including me. What a wonderful song. This one, too.

This track is absolutely beautiful, but I've since listened to a lot more...absolutely gorgeous and will be rushing out to buy some of his music....so soulful!!!!!!
I think that is unfair on Phillip Phillips - I am willing to bet that Damien's videos have seen an enormous uplift in views since his beautiful song was covered on American Idol - and it is to all our benefit that the lad covered Damien's song so beautifully and led us to find an artist that for many of us lay undiscovered. I thought Phillip's cover was a wonderful tribute to Damien's artistry.
Damien Rice is one of those amazing and rare artists that can recreate their whole studio content live and even manage to better it somehow. Can't wait for the new album :D

Even more poetic than the version on the album, and the whole spirit of the video is classicaly lyrical like the composition itself. What a great blend of insturments and voices, expressing the yearning that can accompany love.

People say that he's far from experienced and technically correct in his singing. Exactly. That's why it's so beautiful.
