i feel this is one of those things that really illustrates how conservative and unchanging the terry studio was before deitch came along. even with the advancements in technology and art surrounding them, a 50s terry is barely discernible from a 30s terry, and even has old farmer al falfa still in the spotlight.

It isn't that the natives are generalized charicatures from a deeply racist era, I think we all have thick enough skin to take that hit. For me it's the fact that they're ignored in every aspect except the threat they pose. We learn a lot about the motivation of the prospector and his burro, hell even the jeep gets some depth, but the natives are as two dimensional as the acetate that the animation was painted on. I don't mind a native being cast as the bad guy, but tell us a little about his motives.
