  • Farmer Al in his last Terrytoon appearance This cartoon was originally in Cinemascope. This old 16mm print is letterboxed a bit-- maybe one of these days a scope print will show up!

The final Farmer Al Falfa Cartoon ever released, originally released into movie theaters in February 1956 after a 41-year run beginning in October 1915 with Down on the Phoney Farm.

The end of an era after 40 years. Farmer Al Falfa was truly Paul Terry's baby since he created him. However, I do believe he did say Mighty Mouse was his favorite

i feel this is one of those things that really illustrates how conservative and unchanging the terry studio was before deitch came along. even with the advancements in technology and art surrounding them, a 50s terry is barely discernible from a 30s terry, and even has old farmer al falfa still in the spotlight.

That jeep is the most Benny the Cab like design I've seen in a pre roger rabbit cartoon. 🤔

Obligatory yikes for those Native American stereotypes. Let's move on, folks.

It's been up for a full day and you're the only offended one, child. You don't even recognize the honest miracle happening here: that you can see this hand-drawn gem, nearly your-IQ's-worth of years later; and looking better than it did back then, in most ways. For free.

Even by Terrytoon standards this is a low blow. Some miracle. Cool it, Pops.

It isn't that the natives are generalized charicatures from a deeply racist era, I think we all have thick enough skin to take that hit. For me it's the fact that they're ignored in every aspect except the threat they pose. We learn a lot about the motivation of the prospector and his burro, hell even the jeep gets some depth, but the natives are as two dimensional as the acetate that the animation was painted on.
I don't mind a native being cast as the bad guy, but tell us a little about his motives.
