Keep on watch. It's the one you DON'T see that's the real problem. 😉 The .41 mag is my ALL TIME favorite pistol cartridge. When people ask me why, I just tell them, "Because it's the most powerful handgun I can shoot well"... and it is. As a reloader, I vary my loads everywhere from a 205 gr cast bullet at 850-900 fps all the way up to a 220 gr soft-point bullet at 1400+ fps. I usually prefer the slower burning powders like 2400, IMR-3031, H110 for the stiff loads down to Unique and Reloader 7 for the lighter loads. All of these work well and I never have any doubt about whether or not they will do the job. The .357 mag is my 2nd favorite cartridge and it does the job too. Bought my son a Henry .357 mag rifle for his birthday a couple of years ago and he really likes this rifle. I might have to get a Henry in .41 mag, although I don't care much for loading the rifle via its tube magazine. I would much prefer a side loading port, so may consider other brands as long as they come in .41 mag. This would be a great companion for my 6.5" Ruger Blackhawk.
I do enjoy reviews on other calibers, brands and styles of firearms that I do not own. I may have dove in on the .41 Mag had it been more available when I began my saga with big bore revolvers. I am now going to be hard to move in that direction as I don’t even have time to indulge in the ones I do own. Until I get caught up on my rat killin’ I suppose I will stick with 44 Special and 500L as my favorites with 44 Mag, 454C and 480 Ruger as my peripherals. Or should I say mudding up the waters of confusion what is it 50 years of data written Thompson center/ Ruger only loads? It's enough that it keeps me away from the vaquero. It would have been cool at least for me anyway to build it on the super blackhawk bisley. Speaking of your .41, how did the revolver deer season go for you? According to Brian Pearce of American Handloader , who has posted a Short video showing and shooting Keith's gun, Elmer Keith liked and carried a 4-5/8" BH in .41 Magnum, as well. I'd wager that the size of the Model 57 and 58 N Frame had a lot more to do with Bill Jordan staying with his K Frame .357 than the superior .41 Magnum cartridge.
It's about time you showed back up😂, you're preaching to the choir I have owned 41 since the early seventies, once you go 41 you won't go back to anything else..357 is a dirty word to me😂, I do own one but I used to shoot 38 in it, haven't shot it in 20 years.
I picked up the new Ruger flat top in 41 mag in stainless steel and I was thinking about the overall length of the cylinder. The workaround may be 41 special brass to give a little extra room for the bigger bullet. I know you gotta be careful with your load data though when you’re reloading, just something to think about
@Ammo08 that's interesting. I use 8 grains of Unique with a 215 SWC and get 940fps out of a 4" barrel. The shorter case must build quite a bit more powder with significantly less powder. I might have to try some Special brass, seems to be a lot more efficient. Thanks for the reply.
I’d like to run the 10” T/C .41 Magnum a couple times in Big Bore Production Silhouette this year. I’ve practiced with it a bit, and need to get the sight settings written down. I’ve used the Redhawk Hunter .41 Magnum a bit in Revolver Standing - more practice is needed!
I went to school with a kid in the 70s that his uncle lived in Pecos Texas, he shot a lot of competition on Silhouettes with a 41 mag, he had a basement in his house that was about 30 ft by 30 ft from the floor to the top and all the way around it was nothing but trophies.
All of the revolver cartridges I like start with a 4 or 5. The short cylinder BFR with a 6" barrel is on my 2025 wish list. It will have to come from their custom shop, with the Bisley grip and 6" barrel, but that's ok.
For me there's nothing wrong with the 41. I just don't see any reason for me to choose 41 over 44. I had a buddy that loved the 41. But i found out why. I agree, 44 Mag is best for the non- reloader bc you can find 44 Mag and 44Spl ammo fairly easily. 41 Mag makes more sense if you are a reloader because it's no more or less expensive than the 45 or 44 to load for. As far as justification, it's just something different. A 44 Mag or 45Colt can do the same thing that a 41 Mag can on game. Owning just one gun would be boring though.
well, i know an Iver Johnson isn't a Ruger, but got one end of 2024 and looks as nice as that 41, so I just just go ahead and pretend some :-) Got me a holster for it to so I can carry half dozen Keiths in it. I had been looking for a 70s blued revolver for a while and it just showed up while shopping for a 44-40.
I hate to admit it but I bought a Glock 30s back in September. It's so light on my hip I have to keep checking to make sure I didn't loose it. Still keep the Redhawk in 45 Colt close at hand while in the house! 👍😆👍
I just had my New Model Blackhawk down to the range. I shot both .357 Mag and 9mm through it and I noticed that the Loading Gate was opening when it shouldn't be. it would just barely open and stop the gun from working. Id have to close it to get it to fire the rest of the Cylinder. you ever have an issue like that with any of yours Plowboy? it's a brand new Gun. I wouldn't expect the loading gate to do that.
@@rickykeim2005 I've had the gate spring jump off on a partially loaded .45 Colt Blackhawk when running heavy Tier III loads, but I'd be surprised if any .357 Magnum load could cause that
@@plowboysghost they were just 158 grain off the shelf bullets. the 9mm were just target loads. I don't know why it's doing this. it did it twice. is it something I should contact Ruger about you think?
@@rickykeim2005 I feel like its something I could fix, but if you can't see the cause, I reckon you'll probably need to contact Ruger. At least Ruger has great customer service...
Same here in Northeast Georgia, Maybe this Uberti made Cimarron with Standard Pressure Heavy Buffalo Bore can get the Job done on a Georgia Polar Bear long as I do my part.
I really want one of those small frame Bisley .41’s, but the cylinder will be borderline for my 250 grain LBT WFN’s, and too short for any of my other useful moulds.
@ Yeah, from what I saw, I’d have to seat my 250 WFN’s a little short. My only other options are the RCBS 41-210 or an 210 grain Accurate RNFP. Neither are exactly field bullets.
I like the 41. It's possibly my favorite revolver cartridge but ammunition isn't as common in my area (Great Lakes region) as the 357. I have a S&W Model 57 (no dash) with a 6" barrel I got from Dad. I'm not even sure when he bought it, just know he had it for decades before I got it. Looking at adding a Ruger SA in 41 for woods use. The S&W will be handed off to the boy soon enough.
Pistol is beautiful , is it a 2024 Ruger model Blackhawk ? How many inch barrel ? I have not seen a 2 tone like that tried looking it up on Rugers website and on GB
It was bought new in January of 2024, by me. This one is a 4-5/8" but I also bought a new 6.5" a couple months later...while Ruger was running them. I happened to catch the Ruger website listing them as "available" and found them on 'Broker. The gripframe is the factory aluminum with the powdercoat stripped off, the gripframe reshaped, and homemade fancy walnut panels. I've posted videos describing what I've done in the last year.
Alabama Man !! It's good to see you without the sunglasses. Would you comment--or have you already commented--on barrel length differences: 5.5" vs 6.5" vs 7.5". We're in NE GA...no bears, just an random deer now and then; oh, yeah, snow, too. GBY!
You plan on getting the new midsize 41 mag Bisley from Lipsey’s? Ps I’m planning to start reloading my own ammo in 2025 the two cartridges I’m focusing on first is 44 magnum and 44 special
If it weren't for that slightly shorter cylinder, I'd be all over it. Having toted this full sized BH .41 with it's full length cylinder, it's hard for me to want to spend the dough for a new one that will be limited to some of my loads instead of all of the loads I can now carry. That medium frame would be nice, though.
I rarely make year long predictions, but looking back at how solidly .41 Mag factored into my life in 2024, and just how much I still like it, 2025 is an easy prediction :)
Plowboy I have a similar problem but my problem is that I love them all lol although I have to lean towards the 44-40and the 44spl/mag I've even got the old 38-40
I hear that. I set out to consolidate/downsize my cartridges recently. I found myself committed to .41 Magnum and .45 Colt. I will not part with those two....so I realized just how much overlap there is between .41 Magnum and .44 (.429") Magnum...and between heavy Tier III .45 Colt and .44 Magnum. I decided that .44 Magnum was the odd caliber out in my estimation. For me....41 Special/.41 Magnum takes the place of anything I ever had .38 Spec./.357 Magnum for, and 95% of anything I ever had .44 Magnum for. .41 Magnum replaces both .357 Mag and .44 Mag, in my life. If I need that (theoretical) 5% of what .44 magnum could do that .41 Mag doesn't, then I've got heavy Tier III .45 Colt that will do everything .44 Magnum can do, but with less pressure. I'm not saying that .357 Mag and .44 Mag aren't great rounds. They are. I am of the opinion that if the large frame Ruger in .45 Colt had existed when Elmer Keith was pushing his old Colts past their limits, there would be no .44 Magnum today.
Plowboy bringing the 41 magnum back from the brink and I love it

I hate to admit it but I bought a Glock 30s back in September. It's so light on my hip I have to keep checking to make sure I didn't loose it. Still keep the Redhawk in 45 Colt close at hand while in the house!

@@JoseyWalesWisconsin 😁...thanks, brother.

@@anthonyhurtado1131 Midway has 12 different.41 Magnum loads in stock today. Ammo seek has pages if .41 Mag available.
Thank you, ill look. Also like that 480 Ruger round.@plowboysghost
@anthonyhurtado1131 I like .480, too. If I bought factory loaded cartridges, I'd be on skinny ice looking for good .480, compared to .41 Magnum.
I really want one of those small frame Bisley .41’s, but the cylinder will be borderline for my 250 grain LBT WFN’s, and too short for any of my other useful moulds.
Yep. The cylinder length measurement I found somewhere online for it was too short for a couple of the loads I have.
@@regulatorscout6288 I'm glad I started handloading, several years back.

If it weren't for that slightly shorter cylinder, I'd be all over it. Having toted this full sized BH .41 with it's full length cylinder, it's hard for me to want to spend the dough for a new one that will be limited to some of my loads instead of all of the loads I can now carry.

41 magnum great cartridge.
I agree.
@plowboysghost I can agree with that I just hate the thought of getting rid of any of my guns no matter what the reason 😆😆😆
