re: reusing the dress - some people dye their dresses to wear to future formal events
a great example: one of my older cousins got married in white (2001), then dyed her dress light pink to wear as matron of honour at her younger sister's wedding (2002). her eldest daughter dyed it red to wear to junior prom (2018), and now she's dyed it dark purple for her graduation portraits (2019). so eighteen years and several bottles of fabric dye later, that dress has managed to make it through 4 major life events (and into a million photos) without looking too obviously "same". i'd consider that a return on investment 💁🏻‍♂️

Here's a tip that I learned. When you are getting price quotes for everything from flowers to the venue and the hotel, DO NOT TELL THEM IT'S FOR A WEDDING. You can tell them after they have given the quote.

    • @elizabethdenton5599
      @elizabethdenton5599 5 лет назад +2

When I was planning my wedding there was no place that would even give you a quote without knowing what exactly the event was. Many wont sign a contract with you once you lied to them about the event. Maybe this works where you are from but where I live it does NOT work that way.

    • @faeoori
      @faeoori 5 лет назад +5

@@elizabethdenton5599 you don't lie, you just don't tell them up front. It's actually very unethical that many places over charge once they know that it's for a wedding. You tell them that it's a large event. They don't need the specifics.

We also knocked a couple grand off the price of our wedding because we got married on a Friday instead of a Saturday. best decision EVER. 😂

So I just looked up the average cost in the state of Connecticut where I live, and in 2017 it was 47,500 dollars. 😱 My wife and I have been together for 20 years and we got married in 2009 when gay marriage was made legal in Ct. ,(pre transition for me) and we spent about 3000. The biggest costs were for her dress and the tuxedos for me and my sons, brother, and dad. Then we paid $150 for the preacher and got married in our church. Our reception was in our backyard and was a barbecue. We had an amazing day. And we had zero debt. It was great. I know your wedding is going to be amazing. It’s just a shame weddings have become such an industry now that preys on young folks. Good luck!! 💜💜💜💜

I feel like weddings abroad are cheaper at least partly because less guests will come/be invited. Like it's quite rare to have a huge wedding abroad unless your family/families live in another country and you're going back there to get married

My sister's getting married abroad next year, in Cyprus! And yep... in this case, everyone's having to pay themselves to get there, flights and everything... so if everyone does that, it makes sense that abroad weddings are cheaper. But I'd feel so bad making everyone pay for flights and stuff just to get to your own wedding! Idk how my sister doesn't feel bad, and I also don't know how she expects me to afford it, being a student... but oh well hahahaha
Anyway, really enjoyed the video! And looking forward to the double vlog and more wedding content in the future!

Thanks for the wedding related content, very relatable.
    I am so typical :o
    33 years old
    In a barn.
2 of my bridesmaids are coming from America and 6 of my guests, but I am not paying for any of their airfare.
I am American, marrying in the UK.
DIY: I am doing paper flowers (made from old books) instead of fresh flowers.
We've got a hashtag :) We picked a weird date 11.11.19 (monday) it was more cost effective and made it easier for my family to travel.

Weddings are crazy expensive!! My husband and I went super cost effective and still spent around $8,000. But all in all we spent what we felt comfortable to do so and had the BEST day ever. ❤ I look forward to seeing how yalls wedding goes!!! 😊❤

Aww this brings back such fun memories from when my husband and I planned our wedding! Making your own decorations is so much fun - even better if you're likely to reuse them (we had jars with electric tea lights in them) and now we've dotted them around our first home together :D I look forward to following your journey as you plan your wedding, such exciting times for you both!

This was really interesting! I am amazed by how expensive weddings are, all over the world. My sister and her husband just celebrated their first anniversary. They got married in an art gallery- it was a really neat atmosphere. Congrats you guys :)

Im wondering if the average age is first wedding or just in general cause I also know alot that got married younger but also second and third marriages a lot older

  • @lonelybutterfly5988

It makes sense that people are waiting longer to marry since most people, nowadays, want to focus on their education and careers first, becoming more stable mentally & financially, etc. I think it's wonderful that way. I believe it would make the marriage, especially in the beginning, happier and less stressful.😊

For her wedding invitations and all the paper used in the wedding, my aunt used seed paper so that once everything was over, they didn't have to just throw loads of stuff away and could plant herbs or trees or flowers with the paper things from their wedding

Honestly people slap wedding on anything and make it worth more than usual. I think there's ways to get around it like with flowers just say you want flowers BUT DONT SAY WHAT FOR. Or just don't go wedding specific on items!

I wonder how much the average wedding cost is post-covid. Considering people missing their weddings for covid, I wouldn't be surprised if they were charged more to try and have it as fast as possible when there's such a massive backlog.

I got married May 23 2019, currently on honeymoon in USA! I never seen my bride till she walked down the aisle. After being apart for 24 hours after living in each other’s faces for 7 years made it even better when I saw her! We also had a no contact rule, had to be best man/bridesmaid! Was an amazing day!

we are planning a very simple registry office wedding. in 2014 a simple basic ceremony at our local one would be £50. Next year in the time we want it'll be £480...

I think that 2% is genuinely the act of smushing them together - e.g. I'm Avery and my partner is Haley so we could be Haverley. And my friend is one of the 4% where her husband took her name!

My auntie and uncle are getting married, and not changing their names. However, my twin cousins are double barrelled with their parents names! My auntie and uncle have been together since High School and are now in their 40’s, and my uncle proposed on Christmas Day with a Haribo ring 😂

I had a proper wedding dress, but within my budget, and I adored it. Then, years later, I donated it to a charity shop after it was cleaned. My daughter had no desire to wear it, and she's bigger than me anyway. And that sustainable thing - I wanted someone else on a budget to have a gorgeous dress, and a charity benefit from the sale. We DIY'd everything, my mother bought beer and soft drinks, my father and stepmother made delicious sandwiches and snacks, and we paid for everything else. Still our entire budget came in under $3000 US.

Oh! Also, with regards to the wedding dress and reusing it in some way, I think it was a tradition that you'd use the wedding dress to make a Christening gown for the first born child. Also the same with the wedding cake - fruit cake on the bottom tier was traditionally used for the Christening cake. Obviously these are just Christian traditions and not something I necessarily follow anymore, but my mum, her sisters and her mum did these things. I think they're kinda cute.

My wedding was 5,000$ CAD for everything (this was in 2007). We had a brunch wedding, in a venue that was normally an art gallery. There were 62 people, and 12 of them were kids.

I think I started planning my wedding about halfway through this video and then by the end I suddenly remembered I'm single 😂 Still! A lot of this stuff is great to think about and take into consideration. Especially asking people to make charitable donations as opposed to bringing gifts! I think that's a great idea. Thanks for sharing!

Regarding the pet.... when I returned home after wedding that is when I took picture with my cat max. August 25th last year was my date. Made all my decorations, married at my venue and no bride maids.... just matron of honour and flower girl. My husband's daughter was his best person and ring bearer. Wedding cost was under 15, 000.

Your dad makes decisions QUICKLY compared to me. I'm going on 8 years planning on my tattoo. My current phone took 3 days to decided on (only two sheets of spreadsheet though) despite the fact that my old phone was only holding battery for 3 mins when I switched!
