Wishing I could step back in time and enjoy this again.
I would have thought that somebody would have organised an escape committee!
Watching this series makes me think where some of the bad reviews on TripAdvisor might come from. If I was there I would want to appreciate a free holiday and abide by the rules and get on with everyone as far as possible. Would not mind if the food and accommodation were basic so long as I enjoy the entertainment and activities.
set menu, yes when we stayed in a guest house/small hotel we had the menu up for evening meal, so it was either that or go out, the only thing we had the option was the fish and chips night, those who did not eat fish could have cold meat and chips, breakfast for full breakfast we had to pre order the night before so the staff knew how many of each item to cook when we came down for breakfast. and it was set times breakfast serve from 8.15 am and last was 8.30 am until finish and evening meal was soup and bread roll, main meal and cheese and biscuits, breakfast was cereal choice of four, cooked breakfast and toast in rack.
Atherfield bay holiday camp , now demolished apparently , I stayed there in the early 70’s on a junior school trip
Memories lol or night mares Cheers Rib
Something lovely about it all though . People was different in them days xxx
omg! my cousin is threatening to take me here this summer. I feel a bit ill lol
Lucia DeWinterbottom its derelict lol
Each year I take my bike on the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Four thousand riders. Camping each evening. 600 km of riding. Communal showers, basic food but lots of good company.
Riders ages from around ten to 84 but there are other younger children on tag alongs or in bike trailers. So truly all ages are represented. Other than the riding there are plenty of optional activities available. So I may not like so many organized activities in one way but on the other hand it forces socialization and meeting people. So much better than isolating oneself in a mobile phone or jetting with thousands of others who remain strangers. I could well have enjoyed this camp if I had the opportunity.
19:35 "How gay is that?" Lol, I remember watching this when it first came out, I laughed at that bit!
Hahaha that’s my mate
@@theshems7468 Lol awesome! What's he doing now?
SOOOO FUNNY!!!! The blaring wake up calls, the kids having to sing, the obnoxious insistence on participating in activity after activity, the stupid games full of competition...all SOOO FUNNY!!!!
those lads that said they use to spike someones drink who didn't want to drink don't they realise that pranks like that can kill someone they need to stop and think of their actions on holiday
I want to go back to isle of wight
people were so deferential in the 50s. so different today
Planning has been rejected it's an area of natural beauty
Ugh organised fun!
So many of these ex military types around in the 50s
My mate Levi is in this 😂
My hotel I have booked near Kings Cross in London en route home from Germany this summer has been given so many bad reviews on TripAdvisor that as far as standards of cleanliness are concerned I am not expecting much more than in the bedrooms featured on this video. This and TripAdvisor both show that we are a nation of luxury-cravers.
Is that Katrina from Katrina and the Waves at 2:05? Lookin' good!
This is a reminder why I'm so grateful I don't touch alcohol. How boorish.
Does anyone know if the old derelict buildings have been demolished yet?
Still standing today but very run down
This is ridiculous.
. a therfield wasn't like that. Campers did exactly what they wanted to do. Sure there was organised entertainment but you joined in when and if you wanted to and atherfield closed it's bars at midnight. I think this whole thing is a set up. They did not have a tanoy, either, but we did ring a bell for afternoon tea which was casual. There was no menu, just a set meal, you could change if you had special dietary needs, and you could pick up a packed lunch if you were going out for the day. Most of the fresh food came from the newnhams farm. They never, never, never humiliated children like that. The kids had a great time. There was a pool and horses and plenty of games beaches. As well as working there I took my children there for a holiday in later years. The camp was big enough for 400 holiday makers and the staff stayed in a separate area the faced the street. In the evenings there was dancing or a show, talent contest, etc and a separate bar where you could just sit and drink just like in any other bar, with entertainment, like talent or piano player come comedian. Actually the person who did that job when I was there was Roy Baraclough who went on to coro street. This is rubish.
Twinkle Twinkle little star, I think some of those kids looked scare, put the major in the stocks.
Was this place actually called the Sunshine camp, or was this just a thing for the show?
Atherfield holiday camp was the name of the resort and Sunshine Camp was used for the show
Yes it was atherfield bay holiday camp. I used to work there.
Major would have sent them home for holding a party with the stolen booze., I think the producers kept him away, I prefer uk holidays in the hotel.
I kind of like the rules of no drunks, lewdness or swearing.
I wonder how everyone who was in this series who is still alive now is coping in 2020?
Janet is my great aunty! Such a character is this programme, she passed quite a while ago now!
With people like some on this, no wonder the country's gone down the lav !
