I remember doing this 40 years ago on my XL185S, a lovely trail. I've just bought a CRF300 and plan to do it again. Much easier than Gatesgarth and Garburn. Trouble is I'm 70 now, but I'm sure I'll manage! 👍
Good little lane as you say only the one narly little bit, there has been a few repairs carried out when a bit of it was washed out during the storms 👍
I'm looking into trail riding and living in Penrith, its handy this road is nearby. I've been studying the OS maps and can understand the legend for this type of trail as apposed to the BOATS. Very useful vid 👍
Hey up bikerbellend guess you did it from mardale end, did you back up the hill by the quarry, fir a bit of practice 🤔, thanks for watching, ride safe Simon B 😎
@SIMONB1 started at Matterdale End (the nice bit) and ended up at the quarry end. No time for practice though, just straight in! Wouldn't have liked to do it the other way round though, not on those bikes at least.
Hey up Stephan, they don't realise that bikes are going as fast and don't allow for the distance needed to get round them, most are just retards 😲, ride safe, Simon B 😎
Hey up Richard, it takes time to gain the experience, then it will click once the confidence comes, easy really 😉😲, thanks for watching and dropping a comment, ride safe, Simon B 👍
Man you are lucky to have such nice trails to ride, all we had to ride in 80s Strathclyde was abandoned railways and canals, farmers roads, garbage filled lanes and the DUMP 🤢
@SIMONB1 not yet I've been on a few more lanes to get some practice that was one of the 1st lanes I tried. Planning on a lakes trip in October so I'll be trying again I've got some better tyres and a bit more confidence now
Hey up Richard, that's motorcycling for you, them pesky car drivers, can't wait till it stops raining 😁, thanks for watching and dropping a comment, much appreciated, ride safe, Simon B 👍
Great video.. enjoyed the ride. My dear wife won’t let me near a bike.. in working on it though. Is the lane open to 4x4’s to? Saw you pass one just wondered. It’s in great condition for a green lane.. well from the little I know about green lanes..
Hey up Glenn, yes the old coach road is open to all vehicles, pity about the wife, I'd be getting another 😉, the Kan is in good nick bit too good for us on bikes, thanks for watching and dropping a comment, much appreciated ride safe, Simon B 😎
I’ll need to pay a visit to that trail, looks amazing and fun, pitty about the idiot in the car overtaking on a corner, happens to me a lot here in the Scottish Borders and mostly Audi or BMW Drivers, thanks for the great content 👍🏻
Hey up mototripper, happens all the time here in the lake District 😲, thanks for watching and taking the time to drop a comment, much appreciated, ride safe Simon B 👍
Both ends of the lane are easily accessible, Google the old coach rd, i live in the lake District and know of all the accessible green lanes 😁, thanks for watching, ride safe, Simon B 👍
Hey up will, I used this bracket from ultimate add-ons ultimateaddons.com/collections/attachments/products/u-bolt-handlebar-mount , bolts thro the plate, then used the case to match my phone, ride safe Simon B 😎
Nice wee lane that Si. I'd have been effin too, muppet driver. Not sure if you edited it, but it rent from rant to calm instantly!! And have you thought about a helmet with a visor? Been riding off road forever and just bought a Klim Krios Pro, a game changer. The LS2 Explorer is a good cheaper option. Rubber down 👍
Hey up Andy, no edit's there, control 😲, yes I have thought of a helmet with visor, especially for winter, not tried a klim yet, live too far away from decent shops 😲 have to get round to try one, ride safe, Simon B 👍
Hey up David, my go to tyres are the Michelin trackers, got 1700 miles out of a back one on the 690, they are a great all rounder, thanks for watching and dropping a comment much appreciated, ride safe, Simon B 😎
You make it look easy Is this a lane that is open all the time I have heard a lot about this lane Is it an novice friendly lane or should I avoid trying to find it Carlisle based so it isnt to far for me
Hey up guyonacub, it's years of practice that makes it look easy 🤔, yes the road is open all year, yes I think it's manageable for a novice, it's just one bit that's a bit tricky, but just look ahead and keep momentum, give it a try 😁, ride safe Simon B 😎
Hey up Jason, thanks for your kind words, you'll find it's all kinds of bikes will ride the coach rd, it's nothing more than a fire track with a few stones on it, are you thinking of doing it ?
Hey up Peter, if you did it the way I did, from mardale over to St Johns , it would be manageable, or at the top of the quarry, turn round and go back 👍, thanks for watching and taking the time to drop a comment, much appreciated, ride safe Simon B 👍
I had a go at this route in March (approximately) this year but I started from the opposite end to your video. I couldn't get it up, so to speak 😂so gave it up as a bad job. Was I by any chance one of the two riders you referenced in your video or are there three of us? 👍
Hey up Steve, yes I saw that video and yes you were one of the riders I referenced 😉, things like that soon you'll be riding and thinking they are easy, it all takes time 😁 as said we'll have to get out and share some experience 👍, ride safe, Simon B 👍
@@SIMONB1 I'm a long way from being in your league but yes one day soon we will have to get out and share a ride. I'm going to start using my 350 more for off road stuff it's been stuck in the garage since April and only been out once since I bought it! 😳
@@SIMONB1 Right you’ve convinced me, I’m heading up here tomorrow morning and I’ll be starting from Dockray side so that I can leave the car and trailer in the car park. Plan is to do it in both directions and have a good play on it and try to overcome my anxiety re those rocks at the end. You’re welcome to join me and give me some one to one tuition if you’re available. 👍
@@701Adventures would love to , but work calls, as I said in the video, keep your head up look ahead and keep them wheels turning, point it and power, as easy as that 😉, have fun and lets have some feedback, ride safe, Simon B 👍
I have to disagree, you haven't taken in account the wide angle of the GoPro, the car is closer than it looks I come round the apex of the bend and have a car overtaking a cycle 20 feet in front of me😲, also when he passes me his off side wheels are stil over the white lines, there wasn't enough room to give way for the cycle and for oncoming traffic, if I was a car there probably would if been a collision 💥, ride safe Simon B 👍

Hey up don, you'll be fine, age is just a number 😁, are you local to the lakes ?
Hi Simon, not far off the lakes, just west of Carlisle on the Solway, so The Old Coach road is not so far away👍
It all comes right back as soon as your wheels touch the dirt 👍👍
Good little lane as you say only the one narly little bit, there has been a few repairs carried out when a bit of it was washed out during the storms 👍
Hey up Al, yes worth a trip up, if it's just for the scenery 😁, thanks for watching and dropping a comment, much appreciated, ride safe Simon B 👍
Incredible! Great pointing out the mountains! very interesting as I’ve clogged up most of em! Fantastic!!! Nice ride Simon, cheers Graham.

Hey up Apacherider, have you got yourself a bike ?
Two of us did this yesterday on Africa Twins!! That last bit was bum clenching!!! You're right though....momentum is key!!

How do you get to it?
@@gazrobo if you Google it, then use maps it will show you where it is 😎
Cars passing bikes is a big one where I live. No matter what is oncoming they just have to do it, head on into traffic or on blind corners.
Hey up Stephan, they don't realise that bikes are going as fast and don't allow for the distance needed to get round them, most are just retards 😲, ride safe, Simon B 😎

Great lane…been off in that big puddle in the middle…deeper than I thought ! Gatesgarth is jazzer too.
Bit of a trek but good for the view, theres a video of gatesgarth in the back collection 😁

LOL I dropped my KTM on a Moose gut-pile one time, from hunters. Bring me back to the dump! Baaahahahaha
Where you stopped to say someone bottled it I burnt my clutch out trying to go past that point on my bike 😂
