Excellent video. To answer your question in the description about TM PS5, I'm more nervous then excited. The tv show doesn't look great and if the game is made to follow a similar style then TM is gonna fall short again like in 2012. I'd love to see you do a TM PS5 wish-list video, or a video commenting on the tv show trailer or game trailer (when it releases). Love the style of your videos and how you break everything down with a bunch of research. Car combat is one of my favorite genres and if this new TM is done right there's so much room for a genre rebirth. Really hope you make a follow up to this video.
Driver: San Fransico had some of the best online car combat on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Made by Ubi Soft. What made that game unique was that it was an open-world game and you could switch to different NPCs cars in San Fransico and cause chaos against real players. Kinda like how agents in Matrix Reloaded could switch into other people's bodies in the Freeway Chase scene.
I always loved Burnout, and I found the "spiritual successor" games in the NFS franchise to be enjoyable despite divisive opinions in the NFS community. Also, don't forget about Full Auto 1 and 2. Full Auto could've been a competitor to Burnout had things went differently.
Your videos are some of my favorite on this website. I've watched your PS3 video atleast 12 times by now lol, just an overall entertainment dude and criminally underrated.
Fantastic video, I'm so glad someone remembered this fantastic genre that is so close to my heart. Only one correction and it's that the Vigilante 8 series don't take place in a tournament but instead they take place in an alternate 1970's where the oil crisis only got worse and the series is also a spin-off from another vehicular combat game, Interstate '76, which has the same story but it's more gritty and realistic so much so that it is actually a simulation game that let's you see how it would be to be in a car combat scenario in real life. All 3 of the Interstate games are on pc through GOG but they require some tinkering to get running properly on modern systems. You should still give them a shot if you want, tho. Finally, Vigilante 8 got a Xbox 360 game on 2008 which was a reboot titled "Vigilante 8 Arcade", it's alright but the wacky suspension of the vehicles will probably be what gate keeps you from getting into it, along with it being a stripped down game that only covers the basics.
I absolutely LOVE it when Twisted Metal and car combat as a whole is featured and talked about. Announcing a new TM game would finally give me a reason to buy a modern PlayStation. Couple points on this video: 1) Vigilante 8 story was not a contest. Each character has a story and each stage was a mission that further progressed that story. Calling V8 a knockoff of TM is like calling Overwatch a knockoff of Team Fortress 2. Any and every vehicular car combat game will ultimately be compared and contrasted with Twisted Metal. That doesn't make it a knockoff. 2) Burnout is not vehicular car combat, nor is Road Rash. They're a sub-genre of racing games with crashing mechanics or fighting mechanics. Their primary gaming function is the racing, the crashing and fighting are icing on the cake. You even used the perfect term for them: Action Racers. TM and V8 define vehicular car combat because that's where the emphasis is, the direct confrontation between you and the other participants and you have to blow each other to kingdom come with weapons to win. Yes, there are some racing bits in TM, but those are the exception, not the rule. I would also LOVE to see a new Road Rash.
I kind of prefered V8 to TM honestly. it just felt funner i guess. the weapon combos, the fully destructible environments. the vehicles handled fairly well as well. it was just fun.
Hey man really enjoyed your video. Just read an article saying that is potentially a new Twisted Metal reboot in the works being made by a Sony Interactive studio. PS5 Twisted Metal baby!
Was surprised that Hard Truck Apocalypse/Ex Machina wasn't mentioned. It's a pretty fun crossover between RPG, a trucker simulator and a vehicle combat game. Also, i am curious: since you didn't want to talk about kart racers, and further into video nothing about wipeout/rollcage has been said, do you consider these cart racers as well?
What a great video until you completely skipped over Small brawl ? That game was so fucking beautiful how it performed on the psx the handling and the combat all of it was on point.
Trying to find the name of a game a played either late 90s or early 2000s. Top down racing game. You got power ups, could drop oil on the track, get Rockets to shoot, shield around you car and so on. Can't find the name of the game. Anyone who knows? Was on PC. I remember there was some jungle like map

Full Auto is the shit man, best goddamn vehicular combat game i've played.

Events like road rage and crash mode are not racing modes, Burnout 3 onwards are definitely car combat games.
It was a really good video, thanks for your effort bro! I really enjoyed it. Keep up with hard work, and congratz

32:40 🙌100% THEE best game mechanics & maps in the series. Honestly the only nad thing was only having 3 characters.
THATS. IT!
Great vid! Love the documentary style!
Im going to send you a message on your FB page
I remember I used to play a lot Vigilante 8 1 and 2 in the N64, it was so fun
Wipeout has a collection in vr. It's pretty dope.
Youre preaching to the choir here. Lol
150 views on this should be illegal. Glad to be here at 16k so I can look back at the past when you're at 500

@@wallaceshawn-zk8iw no. But similar looking.
@@Kristofferheihei K not sure then...
pleees make a video with topdown cargame combat games aswell
Nice video! If you want something fresh in the genere, you can check Death Roads: Tournament. It's not in VR, but it's turn based! ;D
It seems there is only thirdcar perspective games from behind and not any of the topdown games ;(
34:01 Anyone else think this looks like Mini-Baytown from War of the Monsters?
my favorite twisted metal is 4 and 2
Interstate'76?
Upshift Strikeracer was better than Blur. but it was hacked by players, bugs were not fixed, and then it was declared dead :(
You can't make a car combat genre video without mentioning flat out or split second.
