I used to own a fabric store in the 90s and one of the classes I taught was for those terrified of sewing was sewing with a glue gun. There was only one cloudy fabric glue available at the time but I showed people how to make simple quilts skirts Etc. One trick I learned for keeping the seams clean was to cut strips of freezer paper. As you know freezer paper is sticky when ironed on one side but easily pulled away. I would have people press strips, especially on seams in tricky places where a lot of glue would need to be used, before applying the glue. If there was an issue with the ooze it would go onto the freezer paper which obviously had to be on the right side of both pieces of fabric. If the glue did ooze out past the swam you could just peel off the freezer paper and the glue would come up. If it was cooled and the glue had solidified all you had to do is warm it with a blow dryer or lightly with an iron and then pull up your freezer paper and you would have no glue on your beautiful fabric. I hope I explained that correctly. You can use wax paper as well but it tends not to stay in place as well.
THAT IS BRILLIANT!!! Thanks so much for the tip, I'll have to play around with it! ❤️❤️❤️
This is amazing, I didn't even realize they made hot glue for fabric! The wackiest project I've ever done with a glue gun wasn't fabric related at all; I sort of view hot glue guns as a "poor man's 3D pen," and have used them for making terrain and monster miniatures for my Dungeons & Dragons games. I made a tiny waterfall entirely out of hot glue and acrylic paint, and hot glue was a major sculptural component of several monster figures.
I love that! I've seen some amazing terrain builds and I'm obsessed!
Oh my goodness!!! Now this is MY KINDA VIDEO! You did great under dicey circumstances.
I did feel like I was channeling my inner Stephanie for this one! ❤️❤️❤️ I really miss my sewing machine though lol
Wow I give you a ton of credit for the patience on calculating the necessary adjustments for this!!! 💯👏
I have to admit it was a little fun though tee hee
While I don't have the eye hand coordination to manage hot glue and fabric together; this is an amazing idea! It turned out fantastic!
Aw thanks so much! ❤️ There were definitely some tricky spots in the gluing and ironing.
Ok, this is impressive!! Not that I expected any less from you but omg this is crazy. Glue?? And it looks so ADORABLE!! I am so tempted to try it!
If you do try it you'll have to let me know! ❤️
I lost my mum very suddenly & unexpectedly in January, & she was the most amazing machinist, I suppose because she was of the generation who learnt to sew / ‘make & do’ at school (she passed on her 76th birthday, she was born in ‘46), & i would watch in fascination when I was younger at how she’d make something out of nothing either on her machine or by hand! Really quite special! I’ve always had envy for you lovely individuals with talent (& it IS a talent) with sewing skills. I was always scared of machines, I just had absolutely no coordination, & I suppose when you have such a talented machinist in the family you become complacent. I’m disabled now & im not really able to use one as I get quite shakey & wouldn’t trust myself, but I’ve always had a bit of a crafty flare, & now I’m wondering what I can make with glue guns lol. Would you ever consider putting this dress ‘to the test’ in wearing it out a few times, & reporting back RE; how it’s holding up?! Id love to know! I’m very tempted to make a quilt out of mums old clothes, which is something I’ve been desperate to do but with no sewing skills & people charging (understandably) quite a lot of money, I’ve just been a little stuck. Id be quite happy to consider using a strong adhesive / glue (& doing a trial run with fabric squares first) just to see how it goes. Now you’ve got me thinking! What an amazing project!
And I have to say.. your kitty is absolutely scrumptious! 🥰 Aren’t they always helpful 😂💗
Thank you for sharing! Your dress is absolutely gorgeous, as are you!
Take care xx
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mama. I love the picture you sitting with her while she sewed...such a beautiful memory. I think getting crafty with a glue gun would be a great way to express your creativity, multi-media abstract art could be fun as well. I will definitely do an update on how its holding up. I'm actually wearing it tomorrow to run into the office for some meetings. tee hee...secret glue dress. He is the most helpful and cutest kitten ever. ❤️
Wow, crazy! Who would've guessed that a dress could be completely glued! 😳 That is amazing! You did a fantastic job, so talented! I wish I was as good with a pattern! In the one frame during the video when you were putting in the zipper, it looked like your kitty was helping, so adorable! Again, great job, the dress turned out awesome! Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy your videos especially your sense of humor! 😊
It still cracks me up that I did this. lol I can't wait to make more dresses with this pattern! I know I can't believe I actually caught that on camera...hands down my favorite moment....he's so helpful. lol
How are you so awesome?!! Also, I was today years old when I learned there was hot glue made specifically for fabrics.
The dress turned out beautiful and those colors look great on you! ❤️❤️
This dress turned out so good and cute!
Thanks! ❤️
@@JenniferElise you're welcome can't wait to see what you create next.🍓🍓🍓
This was great! I decorated some sandals with artificial tropical flowers to make them look Tiki-fied. Your idea was so original though!
Well I love that idea! ❤️
Now this is my kind of sewing!💖
I love the dress! Darts, trim and everything with glue...wow, you are talented!
I've made curtains with glue glues but that wasn't difficult at all 🤣
That is a great use of a glue gun though! ❤️
That little **am i the guy?** made me giggle. What a wild and fun idea! I've used a hot glue gun before, out of desperation, but it definitely wasn't the sort of glue meant for fabric. Nice to know there's a hot variation of fabric glue out there, if the need ever arises again. You were so brave to turn the neckline right side out after glueing it! I would have tore it all and ruined it. The end dress is pretty dang fantastic, considering everything. You should be very pleased with yourself!
She makes me giggle all the time...such a funny dog. I have to admit there was a bit of swears going on when turning out that neckline. gah ha ha
I love it and blown away would never believe that it wasn't sewn . The hem line is fantastic hands down favorite part ,going to give that a try not up to a full construction of a dress with a glue gun ,well not yet . You make it all seem (lol) doable not impossible, zippers are now in my sewing do's not don't list thank you !
It definitely lowers the anxiety that zippers can give. ❤️
I love it! When I was younger I used to make throw pillows with a glue gun!
It's such a quick and easy way to make some fun pillows!
That was cute. The craziest thing I've ever did with a hot glue gun was to make a 3D super large dragon 🐲 face including faux flames. Like you see in the Chinese festivals that people dance under. It was for a work event and I upcycled chip boxes/cartons that will hold little mini chips, craft paper, dowel rods, streamers, and a ton of hot glue and tape. And everybody was so amazed by it.
Ok...THAT sounds AMAZING! ❤️
This is just the cutest summer dress! When I read that notification I was like "she can't be serious!" But you were and I'm happy you went ahead on that challenge because it really worked out so well. Favourite moment of the video: the helping paw - that was adorable.
You know I'm ALWAYS serious. lol Helpful paws are the cutest paws
Not me watching a couple of your videos after seeing you on stephanie canadas channel and not realizing until now that Ive met you LOL
How did I not know about this glue! I could have used this on that backpack! Ah! Ok next time. Now that I finished watching this , dang! That dress turned out pretty,
Thanks! I'm guessing it would have made that backpack a snap!
@@JenniferElise It would have made all those little bits so much easier.
I still can't believe how well this worked!
Right! And I hardly burned myself at all!
I used hot glue a lot when I was costuming high school drama productions. I used it mostly to attach trims and last minute adjustments.
Prior to this I had only really used it for trims so this was on a whole nother level. lol How fun it must have been to do costuming.
That dress is so pretty! 🤩 crazy to think its glued 😯
Thanks! It's such a cute dress I can't even!
Your technique with the lace at the trim BLEW MY MIND. 🤯🤯🤯 I’m not even kidding. You dropped my jaw.
Here for the laughs! Than you.
Birdy
I still keep giggling over the fact that this worked!
Omg. Love the dress
Crazy good!😊
Amazing 😍
So cute!
Thanks! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow Jennifer who would have thought of a glue gun! What a beautiful dress! ❤️
It still makes me giggle that I did this! ❤️
I love you glue guns and sticks. I haven’t seen anything like them in NZ.
I am shook, I didn’t know this glue existed. This is going to change the way I finish off my cross stitch projects. Does it do well bonding fabric to other mediums like foam core board? Al’s, I love my surebonder, the detail tip is life changing.
I love this!
I had so much fun doing it.
OMG your cat is THE STAR of the show! 😍
Great job btw!
Always!!! That helpful little paw kills me
I am in awe.
❤️❤️❤️
So clever!
It still makes me giggle that I did this...now when I wear it I'll be that weird girl giggling for no reason lol
This was amazing.
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
That’s insane Jen but turned out sooo well , good job 👍
Very nice!. All I do with glue guns is burn my fingers!
lol...I hear that! Surprisingly I came away with almost no ouchies! lol
It turned out SO CUTE oh my gosh! And obviously, I love the fabric ;)
Wow the dress came out so beautiful! What an amazing job you did! Much love to you! ❤
Loved it so much.
Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it...it was fun to make! ❤️
I'm so in love with the fabric on the dress you're actually wearing - it's so cheesy but I completely adore it.
Love it! That hot glue bond is serious stuff! Also, those mint green nails are fantastic!
Im glad to see others using, this. I cant sew as its too much at once for my brain to compharend, but a hot glue gun, is quite simple! 😊 Last dress i made was a gold/rainbow dress with hot glue! 😊
Very creative and cute!
Thank you! ❤️
AMAZING!!! I loved the dress :)
Thanks! I'm so tickled with how it turned out!
What I fun challenge! I love this and the dress looks amazing! ❤
Great job. Of course I knew it would turn out great.
I'm still in shock it turned out as good as it did. lol
Definitely I love it, very solution for stitching difficult pieces that streaces and other things. Later on you can sew wherever is needed. Thank you for the video.
Get a cute vintagey dress with no sewing???? Amazing 😍
It's crazy right! lol
I always wondered if I could glue clothes, I was planning on trying it, at least I know it can work now
You are amazing! Loved this video so much, entertaining and informative ❤
I want to see the whole route 66 outfit you are wearing while you're talking about this video!! I love it!! I can't wait to try my own hot glue dress!
It's an old but favorite dress ❤️
I only sew everything by hand. But this is so cool.
One of these days I want to do an all hand sewn project...I just feel like my stitches aren't even enough and my thread always gets tangled. la sigh.
Spectacular 😍 👏. Remain Encouraged 🙏
Cool idea to make a dress this way and very cute how it turned out !!!! I like the cover of your ironing board 😍 Have you also made the cover itself or can you buy it so!?
Thanks! ❤️ It's a simplicity vintage ironing board cover! I think you might be able to still find them.
Wow I am amazed it turned out so cute
I'm amazed as well!!! It's so cute! lol
@@JenniferElise 😊
You are so talented! When you get your machine back, you may want to just sew the seams...What do you think? Love your personality...you are so dear! Thanks for all you do!
Aw thanks! If I don't get my machine back soon I may have to start using the glue gun more. lol
Thank you so much! Love your cheerfulness!! The project is amazing and I think I will give it a try| Thank you so much and hugs from Italy!!!
I mean, I’ve hemmed with a glue gun. And used suture pattern for hand sewing. The dress is lovely, however with the ooze, I’d want to make a swamp monster dress.
Your orange assistant is adorable!
AHHHHHH....I swamp monster dress!!!! I love that idea. lol We also have color glue so I could make some legit ooooooooze. lol He is the best and most helpful.
I used to make all my clothing with glue it worked
Never have I ever seen anything like this, and I love it!
Not tempted to try it, except maybe for mending sometimes! But I LOVE innovative new techniques, and this takes the cake! Great job.
It was so fun but I'll be happy to have my sewing machine back soon. lol
I usually make my Halloween costumes with regular hot glue because I can't sew and don't need the costumes to last very long. However, I didn't know the fabric glue sticks existed... this opens a whole new world for me. Hahaha
Fellow Trekkie!! I watch Star Trek while sewing a lot because I've watched every series a billion times and I can sew and still know what's going on in the show. The dress looks fantastic!! The trim looks darling!👏💖
Exactly why I choose it. That and Buffy are two of my go tos. :D
@@JenniferElise Golden Girls is my other go to! 🤣💖
Glue gun......why not :D You are refreshingly bonkers and I love it :D :D And it worked!
I love that you called me bonkers. ❤️❤️❤️
Was excited to order the glue gun kit(because whats a glue gun without glue) sadly the shipping to Canada almost doubled the price and adding the cute silicon mat with shipping amount increase working out being another 60 dollars. So I appreciate the code and the video. Someday I will have that little cutie.
Take care
Quite darn amazing job, wow : o Now this would be fun collab challenge to do with other people, trying to make different type of clothes with gluegun ': D
That is a fabulous idea! ❤️
I haven't received a notification for your channel in months. This saddens me as I really like your channel. Yes, notications bell is on.
Well this makes me sad (wagging a stern finger at youtube) At least I have some fun videos for you to catch up on! ❤️
I’m very curious about this. I was thinking for pillows to make covers easier.
It's so great for pillow making...you can make some really cute ones with great trims and appliques so easily! ❤️
Awesome!!! I can’t wait until it comes in.
Jen! This is so cool! I love the fabric. Cute! Is there anything you can’t do? 😉 I think Troom Troom will totally steal this idea from you. LOL
Gah ha ha...you're probably right and it'll get all the views.
Hi Jennifer. Love the dress but I would never thought of glue to make a dress. But it worked. I would try hand sew a dress if my sewingachine broke.
It's still crazy to me how good it worked out.
Is the dress still lasting? I'm so anxious to hear an update ❤️
How did you attach the skirt to the bodice? Did you layer the bodice and skirt right side in like you would do for sewing
Love the dress! I was wondering if the glue will hold up when you wash the dress?
It will indeed! The glue is made to be machine washable. I have a few other items that I've glued trims to that have held up through the wash. Has to be line dried though. :D
I love my glue gun. Gotta try this!
I definitely encourage this! ❤️
im broke and cant afford a sewing machine and im also afraid id cut my fingers, so knowing that people make dresses and all with hot glue gun gave me lots of closure TT
I will say I don't know if I'll do it again but it was fun!
I still can’t believe you made a whole dress WITH A GLUE GUN! 😂 The dress turned out amazing, can’t even tell it wasn’t stitched
It’s a project my mum can do, because she doesn’t sew much. She also loves the fabric. Very beautiful
I feel like you need some sewing-themed bookends for those collapsing books behind you 🤔
Love some good Star Trek during sewing. What episodes did you watch?
It's crazy right! I love that fabric so much I feel like I need to do more with it. lol...you're right...I need to do something about those books. I was rewatching the back half of season one of TNG.
I am about to do this and wanted to know if anyone else in the world was doing the same lol
So if you’ve ever watched Rupauls Drag Race, they always have sewing and design challenges for the Queens, and a lot of them can’t sew so they literally hot glue their looks and strut them down the runway! So now you know…if you ever wanted to compete on RuPauls Drag Race , youd KILL in a design challenge !
Love some Drag Race and that does make me happy! ❤️
Oooh. I thought you were going to make the fabric out of glue as well.
I'm legit sitting here contemplating how much glue that would take and also how uncomfortable a dress that would be but hummmm...lol ❤️
Okay I love it and it’s cute but aren’t you worried about it melting apart? I’d be worried about it falling off of me😅
tee hee...totally understandable. The softening point is over a 100 degrees so we should be good! ❤️
Wait...you have interchangeable tips - for one hot glue gun? You mean I don't have to buy different glue guns with different tips? 😳
We have a couple that do. ❤️
Sorry to bother you. Do you know if Lacy is ok? She hasn't been on any platform for several months.
Laci not Lacy
I want to know what your employer thinks about this project.
They were so excited to see the final dress. I might win best dressed employee! lol
@@JenniferElise well, you should. It looks fabulous!!
