You must an Inter fan or something . others totally accept how amazing Maldini was .

+Jakiiz Jambo maldini fought against platini maradona ronaldo zidane ronaldinho ibra messi and ronaldo. Twenty years at the highest level in all the positions of the defence. With Beckenbauer and maybe baresi the best defender of all times
+Jakiiz Jambo Ronaldo played against John Terry and Cole who were both in their primes. He faced the Milan side of 2005 which included Cafu, Maldini, Stam and a primal Nesta. Ronaldo also managed to play against Philip Lahm when he was on one of his best forms and against the best right back in the World of the 2010's Dani Alves. Don't get me started on the constant tackling against Ronaldo with Gerrard and Lampard in the Premier League. Ronaldo actually has played against some of the best defenders, and at a very young age. Also, Messi has never played a match against Maldini. Ever. By the way, don't compare the likes of Nesta and Ferdinand to Boateng. There is a huge difference in quality.

This is what defending is about. This doesn't show all of Maldini's and Nesta's talent because they were superb at intercepting and reading the game. These guys are the perfect example of a classic defender, defending with passion. Doing absolutely everything to keep the ball from going into their net. Of course there are many other great classic defenders, these two are just one of the best examples.
+I'mSecretelyAFlamingo the same thing is with Makelele, the best defensive midfielder ever, people do not appreciate him, it is hard to find clips with his skills, true unsung hero. His positioning and game reading was that good so opposition didn't even tried to make a pass because they knew they are going to fail. Busquets compare to Makelele is like baby in a dense fog at night in the middle of the forest.
Actually galacticos Real madrid had too many offensive players, Juventus, Milan and Liverpool were better then them because those teams had a balance in whole lines. Real Madrid defense was a shame, Del Piero and Ronaldinho destroyed Iker casillas every match

Bottom line is: the attacker had to go through them in order to score and to do that hed have to get some bruises on him cos these 2 guys fought the attackers they didnt just defend.
As a Juventus fan, I have nothing but respect and admiration for Maldini and Nesta. The two of them plus Cannavaro are my three favorite footballers ever. Though I wish you showed Nesta's bicycle kick goal line clearance against Deportivo La Coruna in the Champions League from the 2002-2003 season.
+Fastweb my favorite is Pietro Vierchowod ( in couple with Ciro Ferrara ) the faster defender in italy. incredible pace, stamina, positioning. excellent stats in serie A at 40 yo. but, yes, agree, Nesta was the best italian defender of all times.

The most important thing that clubs need to focus on is bringing in good youth players and having a good scouting and coaching system. I still believe that Italians have better coaches and people that understand the game more than the rest of europe they just need to increase their work and have stronger financial support.
drew downs Uhm no. The best defensive era was the 80's in which Baresi played who was a step better than both. The 80's were incredible defensive wise seeing as how not only in Italy but most major competitions teams scored a goal less on average in games eventhough there were crazy good attackers. Thats why players like Maradonna and Van Basten were amazing. They did it vs the best defenders who were actually allowed to defend instead of nowadays.
For me as a barca fan it is like, "once upon a time..." Miss those times so badly when players were playing woth all their passion and not just for cars and shit. It is obvious that players back then were the toughes in defending i mean look at gerrard, puyol and cannavaro.
Happy to see this video has more than 4 Million views , football is not only Offense ,but also defending , and those two legends in this video were a pain in the ass for many well know strikers .
I´m spanish and honestly, dont know how people dare to compare Puyol to Paolo Maldini. Puyol is one of the most respected players in Spain, but gotta admit that he was too weak and slow against skilled players. Just check how Di Maria broke him to win the Copa del Rey , as well as did Zidane in 06 Euro (which sent Spain home) and Cristiano Ronaldo in a Spain Vs Portugal game, where Nani ruined his goal. Without doubt a great player who deserve respect, but.. not a legend at the same level than Maldini.
AFMakers "knew" indeed.. now our best defenders are chiellini , bonucci and barzagli...... even though I'm a juventus fan I don't even compare them with maldini nesta and cannavaro..
+Markovnikov90 Well to me defenders as a whole have declined. Italy still produces some of the best. Chiellini and Bonucci are world class. Rugani is an amazing prospect. Look at the best defenders of the last ten years, none of them even compare to Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro, or Baresi.
Markovnikov90 we still have decent defense; the names you mentioned plus Darmian and Ranocchia. They aren't maldini but they are better than most countries defense overall
Maldini when he retired, he give his skills like this: Captain heart: Puyol Positioning and reading game: Nesta Furious: Ramos Inteligence and control: Thiago Silva Care of the people and clean tackle: Lahm
Wasn’t just those 2. Milan had an aging squad for years, kept having 33-35 year olds in their starting lineup and it eventually caught up to them. It’s when they sold their last remaining world class players in Ibra, T. Silva, and Pirlo and failed to replace them where they had truly fallen
This video makes me sad. It highlights what modern football is missing. There is too much focus on attacking players and scoring goals in today's game. Don't get me wrong, goals are a vital part of the sport but stopping them should be viewed with the same reverence. However, the youth see all these attacking players with the glory and piles of money being thrown at them so nowhere near as many grow up wanting to be a defender. And this is why we have seen such a decline in class of defenders in the modern game.
z9 comanda milano Maldini is better then beckenbauer because he was able to stop the best player in the history, Beckenbauer , against the modern striker, can’t defend like Maldini or Nesta
Maldini belongs to another dimension, to a bunch of people that will survive the passing of time and will remain indelibly impressed in out minds forever and ever

Such a shame that Maldini couldn't get a world cup. It happened 4 years later in 06, and I would have wished he would have been part of the squad to be there with them when they won it. Maldini is a legend, but do not knock Nesta. He had injury problems but when healthy, he is ranked up there as one of the best defenders ever. Nesta had it all, instinct and was rarely beaten for pace. I remember that one clip of Messi cutting through Milan's penalty area as Nesta was next to him, slide tackled and got his foot on the ball before Messi could get off the shot. Nesta was 35 when this happened in 2011 in a Champion's League match. Imagine what a prime Nesta could do? oLivaz22 is right, youth players see the attention the attacking players get, and most kids wanna score goals. If you were to ask a youth soccer team who are the best soccer players of all time, they'll mention the players who score goals, you'd be lucky to hear them name a defender. As a youth coach of competitive team, I have one player that likes playing defense over any other position. I will be sending him a link to this video to see how two great defenders got it done.
At least you're buying some new players now. Bacca and Luiz Adriano, two very good strikers have already been signed, and maybe Witsel is coming as well. It will be a while before Milan get "back", but it's a start. The defense still needs to be better though.
True story an Iranian wounded soldier during war with Iraq was hospitalised in italia for treatment ,the man said i opened my eye in my room and i saw a a female Italian nurse ,i said to her you remind me of Paolo maldini .she said i am his sister .he said to her i love your brother he is greatest defender in the world. the day after a man walked in my room with a bunch of flower ,that man was Paolo. he wasnt only the best defender he was also a great human being with a great saul. love and respect from Iran Paolo

Great players always want to play for the best team. Back when AC Milan was the best team in the world, it also had some of the best players in the world. That's just how it works.
***** Oh I didn't see that since he just slipped Real in there haha. Yeah that was wrong. He could have put Barca on the list too then. Madrid are rich because of the trophies they won in the 50s and the money they invested from then and continued to build throughout the future with players sold, sponsors, etc. It's not the same way Chelsea and City got rich. They just got some oil rich owners that dropped a ton of cash in on the transfer budget.

+drew downs A+ comment, gotta give it.
now we're back to the dark ages
drew downs Uhm no.
With out a doubt Italy had the greatest ever defenders of all time

-Baresi

And then people born after his retirement (2009) started making Maldini tackling compilations :D
1:57 dude, that's perfect, that's art, beautiful!
Such control at the feet of a defender, football definitely misses those kinds of performances

Without doubt a great player who deserve respect, but.. not a legend at the same level than Maldini.
man not even close and not even close to Nesta.. i mean...Nesta.. he was from a different planet
Thats true! Maldini is best defender ever and than comes others
i liked puyol very much, but i loved maldini and nesta. they were the best😍
Tienes razón tío.
Hector bellerin is my favourite defender
In Italy there was Stam, Kaladze, Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro, Thuram, Materazzi, Samuel... Legendary defenders.
My Lazio had Fernando Couto
+Iron Rottweiler your Lazio brought Nesta up bro, don't forget about that.
Stam too!
and a legendary winger Nedved, but Couto didnt leave us for money
I could argue with Materazzi but overall I agree
Ferrara? Montero?
2 défenseurs exceptionnels j'ai bcp appris on les regardants jouer. Merci à eux 😘
I've watched this video about 20 times and i'm a Juventino!! Awesome video, gets me pumped before i have football matches
Italy knew how to make defenders
AFMakers "knew" indeed.. now our best defenders are chiellini , bonucci and barzagli...... even though I'm a juventus fan I don't even compare them with maldini nesta and cannavaro..
Markovnikov90 They still are legends in their own right to be fair
+Markovnikov90 Well to me defenders as a whole have declined. Italy still produces some of the best. Chiellini and Bonucci are world class. Rugani is an amazing prospect. Look at the best defenders of the last ten years, none of them even compare to Nesta, Maldini, Cannavaro, or Baresi.
Markovnikov90 we still have decent defense; the names you mentioned plus Darmian and Ranocchia. They aren't maldini but they are better than most countries defense overall
+Beatdown15 perhaps...
1:57 Goat tackle!
Facts!
that's the Maestro tackle
Maldini when he retired, he give his skills like this:
Captain heart: Puyol
Positioning and reading game: Nesta
Furious: Ramos
Inteligence and control: Thiago Silva
Care of the people and clean tackle: Lahm
Ramos is just a clown.
Way better than all of them. Only Silva deserve to be mentioned.

after maldini left, milan fell from the top of europe. after nesta left, milan don't even qualify for champions league anymore
The shit started after Inzaghi, Nesta, Seedorf, Zambrotta and Gattuso at the same day left AC Milan
Dario B without selling them :c
Darius now gattuso is back and we are 8 points from the 4th place away
Gattsuo is the coach now he can create an amazing milan tea.
Difensori con senso di posizione, anticipo, piedi buoni per impostare E tanta classe come Nesta , nascono ogni 30 anni. Grande Sandro!!
And this is why we have seen such a decline in class of defenders in the modern game.
and also why "good" defending players are never looked at or get a chance at playing at the top.

And now we have Bonera and Mexes

At least you're buying some new players now. Bacca and Luiz Adriano, two very good strikers have already been signed, and maybe Witsel is coming as well. It will be a while before Milan get "back", but it's a start. The defense still needs to be better though.

Ai, ai! Belíssimos tempos! Eu era feliz e sabia!
Serie A was the real champions league, now players only care about money and go to rich clubs like Real, Chelsea and City.
Great players always want to play for the best team. Back when AC Milan was the best team in the world, it also had some of the best players in the world. That's just how it works.
Yeah but nowadays great teams are great teams because of the money.
I'm a Liverpool fan and I agree. Do you guys remember when 2005 and 2007? ;) Back when we were always on top.
Bokito was referring to the teams that recently became rich like Chelsea and Manchester City.
They just got some oil rich owners that dropped a ton of cash in on the transfer budget.
both of them are the best.
Welcome to 2021 guys.
