30 years and mostly peerless at its price point.
It really is. The XR650L is in the neighborhood. But the DR is a truly global bike.
I love it! Fantastic DR build!
Thank you! It has been a lot of fun to build and now ride.
Sweet build. Maybe an XR650L project next???
We have been discussing it. Also thinking about finding an XR650R and having some fun with that.
3-4 mods and the Dr650 goes from "overweight and anemic" to "lightweight powerhouse" Going from my DR650 (heavily modified but nothing crazy like overboring) to my friends crf300l was like going from a shotgun to a sewing machine. My dr650 is a torque monster.
Sounds about right. The CRF300L has it's place, but there is no comparison.
Just picked up a dr 650, what mods do you recommend?

Amazing build! I'm curious how you guys were able to get decals to stick to the plastic tank. Were they perforated? How have they held up with time?
THey only needed to last a couple of weeks for photo and video. They don't hold up at all. Within a month they were bubbled, within 4 they were practically sliding off the bike. We tested a bunch of different perforations too and that only holds off the inevitable by a month or so.
Sweet build. This is exactly how I'd like to build a DR650. Any chance this bike will be up for sale?
Thank you! This bike is staying with us. We sold the last DR and have regretted it ever since. This one is sticking around for a bit.
@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE I hear that. How do you like the drz400sm fork conversion vs the Cogent equipped stock forks on the last build? Is it worth the extra effort?

Thank you
Would like to see a walk around of this Bike, looks nice from what i glimpsed at.
We will post more short videos on our social media feeds. There is more info here: bit.ly/3issu81q
@@UPSHIFT_ONLINE Thanks Mate.
This build is cray cray 😂. Why not start with a SUMO tho? Wouldn’t that have made your build starting point easier?
The DR650 does not come as a Sumo. We married the front suspension of an entirely different model.
I’d love to know the staff’s pick between this DR and the last one y’all built a couple years ago! Value for money pick? Which one y’all like best..? Let us know!
@Upshift Online Also, why stick with the 17” rear vs the 18” from last time if’n y’all were doing Dubya wheels anyhow? Thanks!
We would choose this one because of the transmission, suspension and the lighting package. But the previous one would be the better value especially if you edited the list a bit. The 17" is installed for now so that we could get a feel for the transmission changes we made against the stock wheel size. We will lace up an 18" at some point. Plus we have never actually had a DR with a 17". So we just wanted to get a feel for it.

Thank you for watching.
What headlight is that?
We wrote an entire article going over all the parts and there are links too.

That’s a pretty good copy of my DR650, mines still better.
