*All* of his videos help with the yips. Still doesn't come easy, but getting an accurate diagnosis is key. Video helps - if you can handle the embarrassment that comes with it. 🙂
I have bad yips from this distance. From close range I now chip cross handed which works quiet well. Any chance of a 30-60 pitching videos for bad yippers?
One thing I see a lot is amateurs practicing their chipping with range balls and playing with their preferred brand. Balls react differently. If you are at a facility with a chipping area then use the same brand you play with. Maybe people disagree with that. What do you think?
Should 100% use the same balls you use in play if possible. Further to that the idea of having a 'practice' set of wedges is flawed, one worn out set will behave very differently to a newer set!
How about the same test on the 1st rather than the 11th! Interesting video though. Shotscope tells me I’m slightly better than tour average short game wise (probably how I managed to get to my current 4 index tbh). But it’s certainly not a tour course, having said that conditions have been very good this year. I wonder with a course that isn’t as super pristine as a tour course, does that even things out somewhat SG wise around the green. I hadn’t thought of longer than tour fairways contributing to less spin which you mentioned in another comment but it does explain some shots when I think I should have got it closer given what I thought was a really good contact. Then again, it’s probably me 😬 Informative video Mr R, thank you. 👍🏻
Unfortunately the 1st doesn't have fairway in the right area to hit multiple length shots! There is some degree of evening out for sure, slower running greens but less spin available. How much it evens out who knows..
I think this is a good test but perhaps having Tour conditions would have been a fairer test when comparing your results with Tour pros. Also, this doesn't take into account that some of the Tour shots counted to get strokes gained were probably hit to tucked pins and/or hit to pins where the green runs directly away from the player. Love your videos but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're not quite Tour level as far as playing goes.
These are valid points and addressed in a longer version of the video I have in my online academy. The green is definitely slower but the first bounce quite firm, the fairway longer so the ball doesn't spin as much. These things to some degree cancel out. Less speed on the green but less spin coming in. I think the more important thing you missed is that I hit the same shots over and over vs one wedge every so often and no retakes. And no, I'm not tour level as far as playing goes, not sure how we jump from a short wedge shot comparison to that 🤷♂️ With a wedge though the gap isn't that big.
@@JamesRidyardGolf Oh now James. Calm yourself. I recognize that it's a test and as such has parameters outside of reality. It would take way too many hours to replicate those actual short game shots on the course. And the Tour comparison came from the title of the video and the strokes gained metric I assume you got from Tour averages. All that being said, I would do untold things without shame to have your golf skill. I mean, I'm watching YOUR videos to learn and better my game and not the other way around. Not even close to a comparable test James. Your repeated shots let you see and feel green speed and slope and your repeated swings vary by only a few yards. All this helps you dial in touch and distance. It's just a long way from "one shot" tournament golf. Just the same, I remain a big fan and love all you do for us! If we only had practice facilities like that growing up...as well as currently.
I agree. A longer version of the video on my site goes through all the issues. Thought it too long for RUclips though. People are using this data to guide practice, I'm leading up to something with this...
Yes very good explications
Are you agree with this after ?
For an amateur bogey player
Ten percent dispersion of the distance for a shot wedge
Cool test. Like you said, this really shows that the highlights on tv are the exceptions not the norms.
Hey James, great content! Can you please do video on severe downslope lyes around the green? Similar to the upslope video, thanks Mate!
Damn you’re good. Looking forward to doing mine but hopes are not high although higher now I’m following you and that’s progress.
Love the videos James very helpful
Could you do a video to help someone with the yips as killing my game 😫

James I played a course yesterday with elevated greens it seem every chip would run by the hole any suggestions on how to chip to elevated greens

Great video. There are loads of strokes gained putting calculators online for free. Any short game ones? Would be a very cool training aid.
We're working on something that has an edge on strokes gained for short game. Hopefully ready soon!
Very interesting. I'm actually stunned by how the strokes gained worked out.
You and me both

Any videos on this yardage would be great. I feel like I could be so much better from it!
Noted!
Does this is anyway show, or could we expect, that a tour player would hole out more often from those proximities?
I think if a touring pro was hitting several balls, the numbers would be different.
So do I

I trust James Ridyard@@JamesRidyardGolf
Cool test and not your best. But you are the short game guru
I try 😂
