Well about samurai body He stated that his body remained 'Intact' even after death don't know how they preserved his body but it was. And later Gesune found it as in story but even after another 100 years his body still remained Intact
As for the flashbacks they were in the trans state and the spirit showed their fear and their mistakes of their past life.. That's why they were traumatized later 22:55
