I had no idea what ASMR was until hearing The French Whisperer in an online ad for the Calm app. Got rather hooked on his historical/art/scientific videos, then explored ASMR videos in general. Recently found this channel of Gareth's. Being a singer I very definitely have a fondness for Wales...and I've just now heard Gareth say he's done a degree in Hispanic studies...my dad, also a singer, is mad keen on Spanish, maybe a good thing there's an ocean in the way or he might pester Gareth half to death...😂

Canada? Victoria (on Vancouver Island off the BC coast) is lovely. Toronto is terrifically cosmopolitan. (Peter Ustinov back in the day called it "New York run by the Swiss", but it's much less straitlaced than that now.) And the old colonial towns within Quebec City and Montreal are glorious, but since you've been in places like Prague they might be a bit old-hat for you...

It is admirable that you have already worked and holidayed everywhere. Your talent for languages is undoubtedly a great support and makes things easier. As a German, I speak English relatively well, and my French is sufficient, although I mostly write. Speaking is difficult for me because I need to practice. At least some people take advantage of the freedom to live and work anywhere in Europe, although it offers many opportunities. Unfortunately, due to health setbacks, I have repeatedly failed in my ambitions to live outside Germany. Perhaps my wish will still become a reality.

@@WelshASMR82Maps There were lots of things. I visited the Soviet Union with my family when I was my son's age and it reminded me a lot of that trip. The state's paranoia about outsiders, the desire to control the narrative etc. It is the most 'religious' secular country I have visited with the devotion, worship and myths created around their three leaders. Obviously our trip was heavily curated, but I found the country, particularly Pyongyang much more advanced and modern than I was expecting, the countryside was beautiful and the limited contact we had with local people reminded me as always, that there is more that unites us than divides us.

    • @WelshASMR82Maps

I would avoid Rosetta Stone. It's expensive and doesn't explain anything. Use Duolingo but buy a book and watch YT videos and Netflix. Learning a language is about multiple resources and people seem to expect to get fluent by using just one. I recommend TY books Complete Spanish and Routledge Colloquial Spanish books. If you get a 2nd hand one for cheaper, there is little difference to the newer very expensive versions. That's what I do!! Buena suerte 🍀

It’s not, it’s only spoken by about 20% of the populace. However it’s not only the native language of Wales, but originally all of Britain. The reason why it isn’t spoken in Wales today as much was because of an event called the Treachery of the Blue Books…where the UK government recommended that Welsh holds Wales back and should be eliminated. Look up “Welsh Not” for more information on this subject.
