One button is a positive thought, and one button is negative. They are pressure sensitive buttons, so pressing hard on the negative button means they will have a really negative reaction to what someone said. - If you do a roll or cartwheel into enemies it will knock them over. Enemies can be knocked over railings and fall down several floors onto other enemies. - In first person mode you can hold L2 or R2 to lean left or right, this lets you peek around corners or take quick shots from cover in a fight. You can hold both buttons to stand up on your toes for a bit more height. They are pressure sensitive so press harder to lean more or stand higher. - Tranquilizing enemies in different parts of the body makes them fall asleep for different amounts of time. It also takes them longer to fall asleep depending on where you shoot them. - Knocking out an enemy by punching doesn't last as long as tranquilizing, and has a different effect to indicate their status (stars over their head instead of ZZZ's). - In some areas, enemies are wearing nightvision. If you point your pistol at them in first person it has a torch and it blinds them. - During the game you get a coolant spray, you can spray enemies in the face to stop them from being able to hit you. - You can use the coolant spray to wake up someone faster if they have been tranquilized. - If you spray coolant non-stop for too long it will puff out. The player character will shake the can to get it working again. - Shooting at the bird in the cage will make it call for help and start an alert if there are enemies nearby. - If an alerted enemy runs into a room and sees a poster of a woman (the ones behind a door or in a locker), they will get distracted and stop searching for you. - You can increase your grip gauge by doing pull ups while hanging. To do a pull up you hold both shoulder buttons down until fully raised, 100 pull ups gets you to level 2, then another 100 pull ups gets you to level 3. The grip gauge drains slightly faster as you pull yourself up. - You can increase the grip gauge level even faster by intentionally dropping from a railing, then catching the next one down as you fall. - Shooting an enemy's radio will stop them from being able to use it. When they try, it won't work and they give it a frustrated shake. They must leave the area to call for help. - On the tanker, the Commandant's speech changes depending on the difficulty level. He forgets and pauses more on lower difficulty, and the timer stops while he isn't talking. On higher levels he will fake out the troops and say INTRUDER IN THE BACK! and they all turn around regardless of where you are. - During the speech you can tranquilize the soldiers standing to attention and they fall asleep while standing instead of falling over. No one notices they are sleeping. - You can enter your birthday when you find the first Node in Big Shell. If the birthdate matches the system clock, it will sing 'Happy Birthday!' - If you enter the name of certain staff members at a Node, it will automatically fill out other details about them like age, gender and blood type. - When you meet Pliskin for the first time, he will threaten you if you point a gun at him. If you tranquilize him you can do a codec call where he talks in his sleep. - Some lockers can't be opened, but if you punch them with the correct combo the doors will fall onto the floor. If you get it wrong the door falls into the locker and you can't get the item.

"Locational damage" leads to a funny glitch that I liked to use a lot to scare clearing teams. Shoot a guy in the leg with a tranq gun, then shoot him in both legs with a regular gun. He'll fall over, and begin the bleed-out dying animation, but then fall asleep in the middle of it. ZZZs appear, and he's marked as sleeping on your radar. It's insane how good the visuals still look, despite the fact it's almost 20 years old. And even more so that they managed it, while packing in so many small details, so early in the PS2's lifespan. And to top it off, it's actually a really solid game, not just a tech demo disguised as a game.
Hence why the PS2 was the most sold consoles in history When exploit the right way it gave us masterpiece like the MGs franchise who had its two best Game on it (MGS 2 and MGS 3 )
@@CloudStrife777FF or the PS3 HD port, you're right. But I still don't think that takes anything away from it, since it's only a texture resolution boost.
About 90% of these are what I spent my childhood finding out. I definitely did the Otacon pictures a ton, and I was obsessed with the part where you can dress up as the enemy as Raiden.
@@Zwodo Yeah but back then that was a completely new gameplay idea. Fully disguising yourself as an enemy guard and infiltrating the place, not being suspicious was a game changer back then. Also the 3rd person camera using a first person one was revolutionary in 2001.
MGS2, even on original hardware, still looks amazing because of the incredible texture work. It also looks really clean and jaggie-free because they relied on textures instead of using too many polygons. Perfect use of the PS2. Sadly, not too many games followed that route, and even the most advanced games of the system in later years look jaggier than this.
Yeah, this is an example of software being used to a hardware's strength, more impressively, early in the hardware's life. It's why porting it to Xbox was a nightmare.
@@MrSapps As I said, "even on original hardware", mgs2 looks really good compared to most other games from the PS2 era. Yes, this is the HD version or emulated. On original ps2 hardware it looks exactly like in this video, just with some aliasing and lower resolution. But still looks great and clean on a modern flat TV, when most ps2 games look much more aliased and blurry.
While it is true that it is far from being one of the highest polygon pushing games on the system, in part as a result of being a game started well before the hardware was finalized, for a first gen game they did push plenty of polygons. As a matter of fact they leveraged the PS2’s raw polygon pushing power to make up for the unknowns of the system, and the performance impact that not yet understanding the hardware could have, by making using extra polygons and textures to achieve the equivalent of shader fx.
@@MegaRayland The graphics are low quality for PS2. The team even stated that they used most processing power to run AI. This is in contrast to the first game where nearly all CPU time was spent on rendering.
The reason this series is my favorite in Video game history. The standard it set for the rest of video games in general is next level. Story wise, details, gameplay and soundtrack were nonpareil
Dio Nah MGS 1 is better. I can’t understand why everyone prefers part 3 when the first has superior storytelling, better characters, better atmosphere, best version of Snake to date, best music, etc. It’s just better.
I played through this for the first time in January, and remember being super impressed that the sea lice crawled on you and actually got into your rations, so you had to shake them off by moving the inventory screen. Only ever had it happen that one time but it was a small indication of things to come. This game is a masterpiece.
If you can analyse the MGS2 Demo, you will see that there is Much more detail that kojima cut out before release the full game. The bottles on the bar, if you break then, liquid will came out. And some more litle details like Rain interacting with enemies and more.
Felipe Machado I remember playing the demo when I bought zone of Enders , then when mgs2 came out, I was disappointed thr bottle breaking details were not there lol 😂
WHAT? Rain doesn't interact with enemies in the final version? I've been playing the Demo since months and back then when i had the game, i didn't notice the lack of rain interaction.
I finished this game 74 times. I remember how I could just create a new game when I had nothing to do with my life. I knew every word and sentence used in every cutscene and codec transmission.
more than 18 years ago, ice cubes shrank to simulate a melting effect and virtually nobody noticed it. Fast forward to 2019, everybody is impressed because the RDR2 horses' balls shrink...
This game was way ahead of its time. For coming out in 2001, it looks amazing and has such an attention to detail. They just don’t make many games like this anymore.
Hate to break it to you 2010's kids but if anything this game was with the times. It's awesome, the birth of the PlayStation 2 this came out at a very happy time in the game world when good games were coming out every week. The PS2 era was the best

Same here! I literally knew nothing about ZOE but after having my mind blown by MGS1 and seeing how amazing MGS2 looked I bought it for the demo. ZOE was actually a pretty good game that I enjoyed.
Gotta appreciate Kojima-san and the level of detail his team goes through for these games. I knew about most of these details but I'm glad to know more.

Well, whatever mgs2's aesthetic is classified as.
You missed the best part with the melting icecubes; If two or more cubes lands next to eachother, they melt slower than the seperated ones. Now _that's_ attention to detail!
Snake! The amount of detail in this game is insane! I've played through it at least 5 times over the years, and this video shows things I still haven't seen, well done!
I’m not sure if you knew this, but there weren’t any real-time physics in MGS2. The bottles breaking, the ice melting, the glass shattering are all meticulously animated for the Tanker sequence.
I played this game for hundreds of hours as a kid/early teen. Thought I saw and heard all of this, but I missed those toilet codec calls! Even didn't know about the grip gauge drain. Great video.
This game was such a quantum leap from the first I could hardly believe it. Really was such a good game to have been released nearly 20 years ago. It’s great to see and be reminded of how good it was
I'll admit, the detail in this game, kinda makes me wish I had played it back in the day. For its times, it's truly amazing, even doing more than a lot of games today! With that said, death stranding looks like dog shit. Never played a Kojima game and it doesn't look like I'll start any time soon.
I tried hard to love it but it just didn't have enough stuff.. I mean it really just lacked the content needed for me to believe Kojima put his heart into it.
From what recall, Kojima barely had any control over MGS5. He play-tested the game and was disappointed with it. They just slapped his name all over the intro and ending credits, so they can push sales on the game.
In my opinion, MGS5 is the worst of the series and it isn't even close. MGS2 and MGS3 are basically extensions of one another so it's impossible for me to pick a favorite out of the two, then I'd say MGS Twin Snakes would be my second favorite in the main series, then MGS4 (but then again, I only played though MGS4 once).
This game was so legendary when it came out. I hated Raiden but so did everyone. Still a great game. Snake rules and these details are amazing! I only knew a few of them.
So sad that the most games dont even had the detail like MGS 2. When I played it on release day i was blown away. My second PS2 game what i played after SSX. And do you guys remeber that even the Bell from the Firealarm makes a sound to attract the enemy? So sick.
also how in the part where you have to go through Shell 2, where everything is flooded and you have to swim through, Raiden's breath when he gets out of water gets heavier the lower his O2 bar is edit: also how where you're in that part but with Emma, the controller vibrates mildly to simulate Raiden's heartbeat!! since before getting into the water he tells her to listen to his heartbeat. the lower their O2 bar is the faster the heartbeat becomes
Most of these I knew already due to playing the MGS series religiously, but it still amazes me that this game holds up so well after nearly 20 years. Much love. You earned a sub!

Exceptional game from special developers. I did not yet play THIS Metal Gear, but several others, so I know how special the games are. My plan for the coming years is to play all of them. Each original version on original hardware. It would be so awesome to have a collection of all Metal Gear titles for the Switch! At least...... the ones the system can handle.
Wow I thought I knew ALL the secrets about my favourite game ever but there were a couple of these I still hadn’t noticed before! The ice melting was one and I couldn’t recall going into MG Ray from the top floor. I had gone through the ground, though... I was also mind blown by the Gurlukovich soldiers appearing in the projector during the speech. I had noooo idea! I also had never let the speech time out on me but I did notice it would pause here and there. Unbelievable that so much was possible back then. This game set the bar way high.

It's insane how good the visuals still look, despite the fact it's almost 20 years old. And even more so that they managed it, while packing in so many small details, so early in the PS2's lifespan. And to top it off, it's actually a really solid game, not just a tech demo disguised as a game.
Hence why the PS2 was the most sold consoles in history
When exploit the right way it gave us masterpiece like the MGs franchise who had its two best Game on it (MGS 2 and MGS 3 )
@@togucvinw7 i didn't like MGS3 as much as i could have. i hated the camouflage game play. i'm glad they made it way more streamlined with MGS4.
It looks pretty good, but you have to consider that this footage is from an emulator with higher internal resolution, so it looks even better.
Ramis either that or the HD remaster
@@CloudStrife777FF or the PS3 HD port, you're right. But I still don't think that takes anything away from it, since it's only a texture resolution boost.
About 90% of these are what I spent my childhood finding out. I definitely did the Otacon pictures a ton, and I was obsessed with the part where you can dress up as the enemy as Raiden.
I mean dressing up as the enemy was an essential part of Raiden's gameplay.
@@Zwodo Yeah but back then that was a completely new gameplay idea. Fully disguising yourself as an enemy guard and infiltrating the place, not being suspicious was a game changer back then. Also the 3rd person camera using a first person one was revolutionary in 2001.
Me and my cousins would play hours on hours of that same level as raiden dressed as the enemy. Such good times

That's called life
MGS2, even on original hardware, still looks amazing because of the incredible texture work.
It looks nothing like this on PS2 though, this is high res emulated or HD version...
There's just barely any games like this any more, phenomenal attention to detail and passion put into this game.

Hideo kojima. Always added more detail than necessary. Maybe the reason why he couldn't finish MGS5 on time.
One of the other reasons was them having to create a new game engine from the scratch for the MGS5.
@@RightButton agreed.
