After you enable a new repository, you have to hit '(refresh arrow) check' (to refresh the package lists) before you can search for the thing you want from said repository. It's one of those few things that annoy me about the Debian package tools. (When you selected and installed the WoL package, it also refreshed the package lists as a first step.)

You don't need to install an plugin for PLEX to appear in Plugins list. The thing that "triggers it to appear" is just "apt-get update".
So either just go to Update Manager and check for updates (whick will run "sudo apt-get update") or SSH into the server and run the command manually.

I'm actually running plex media server on my pi 2 with osmc as the main os, mounting network shares and its shares from there, running well with direct stream.
cheers Richard. very well done. check out the syncthing plugin. I run syncthing to sync photos/vids on my phone to my nas part and then point Plex at it. this would work very well on the pi. if you like omv then defo check out freenas and zfs. sadly not for the pi though. once again thanks

what is the repo for plex? i cant get it installed on RBP2. The default repo is for AMD64 devices. The plex website doesnt support debian builds, only fedora, centOS and Lucid.

I was wondering if you had set the Raspberry Pi NAS server with OpenMediaVault with more than one hard drive for RAID purposes and how the system performed under those conditions
the plex plugin comes when you run the omv-extra and omv-extra testing repository. and you manually ask it to Check under plugins after this you have the plex plugin available. no need for WOL for being able to install Plex on it.
regarding looking for the plex plug in, try refreshing the repo's i might display then. by you installing one of the other plugins, it might of done a repo check/update first and thats why plex popped up. falling that look at this page, this is what i did first omv-extras.org/simple/index.php?id=how-to-install-omv-extras-plugin
Hi folks, great video. I've successfully created a Plex Server and SMB. When I attempt to add a second USB memory stick for NAS storage I get the following error as soon as I try to add a new share "Error #0: exception 'OMV\Exception' with message 'Failed to set file group to 'users' for '/srv/dev-disk-by-label". Has anyone come across this? If so, what's a potential solution?
Good video. Should be noted for those who are using Odroid that this guys instructions are basically the same. Check the ACL as this makes it so Plex can actually see the shares you create.
by installing an pluging you're probably triggering "apt-get update" to run in the background. There's probably other ways to make it run manually. Great video, thanks.

Does anybody have any idea how many clients a low powered plex server like a pi3 will be able to handle ? , i have maybe 10 users who access my server on plex apps from ouside of my network , currently i use a mac as a server , but its noisy and obviously will be using a lot more juice than a pi , would it be worth me setting this up or is the pi a bit " small " for my requirements ?
Joe Reid no chance. pi would be killed on 10 clients. this is where a core i5 comes in.
pi also only has a network port of 100mb. so even bandwidth to 10 clients would flop

Do you have a chromecast near to you? It would be nice to see that is this working with CC? I have seen some posts when users got "This server is not powerful enough to convert video" message when they tried to stream to CC via Pi2/Pi3.
As I know this is about plex config file, which is force this message when it is suppose that this video might be lagging on the TV (Chromecast). But in the real life this is not the case every time, but many users cannot bypass this message.
Also it would be nice to see what is the limit of Pi3 in terms of bitrate? Web-DL 1080p media can go through without any issue, but what is the case with blu-ray rip?

I have almost everything up and working but one problem.
I have mounted a usb drive with exfat format, it is mounted and online. Plex can read it but I can not find it when I make a shared folder. In file system: Mounted YES, Referenced NO, Status ONLINE.
Please help.

I'm trying to do this to the Pi Zero but cant get openmediavault to work on the pi zero, cant access the webgui on it, get an error 502 bad gateway
Justin Frost never installed on a pi zero. sorry. but bad gateway would indicate web services are not running.
Richard Smith I even tried Raspbian and installed plex, but I can't get the 32400 port open, and if I tried to access plex by the web interface I get a error message that can't connect?
Thank you sooo much for the Das Pi 3 Plex server videos... However Plex pan't see any of my media that is on the mounted thumb drive. I have even formatted it in linux format Ext2. Any ideas how to fix it ?
It does show up and is mounted through the OMV interface. Help ! ???
OpenMediaVault, although it has a clunky UI - IT JUST HAS SO MANY GOOEY OPTIONS.

It did not work :(. It says login when installing and has the usual usernam:admin & password:openmediavault. But when you login CORRECTLY it restarts the same message telling you to login.
Does this work with Raspberry Pi 2? I have done everything as in the video but can't get Plex to install, I just get a whole load of errors.
Hi, I finally got Plex installed on Raspbian. But unfortunately it is saving the Library on the SD card (I am using 8gb) which is already full, would it be possible to have it save to an external disk?

I believe after you enable the plexmediaserver-repo you'd need to hit the "update" button at the top to pull down the latest packages available. Most likely it probably did a update when you installed the WOL plugin. Thanks for the vid!

Have you thought about setting up torrent downloader plugin on OMV, and then have the media drop into your Plex

I have a bit of an obsession with raspberry pi’s, have 11 of them and use some running as a cluster. At the moment i have a Raspberry Pi 3 on each TV in the house, i have OSMC/KODI/RETROPI and Debian installed on them duel booting. So i can watch all my movies, tv shows and even play retro games.
I’ve had a Synology Box for a few years and used that as a Always Online Torrent Box as it has some good apps, I’ve used Plex Server on it in the past. However its outdated and the hardware is old, so much so my Raspberry is more powerful now. So I’ve been having a play around with OMV on one, and then like your self using the plugins like Plex. Ive purchased 2x 4TB 2.5 USB Drives, amazon had a good deal on them. Now I’m wanting to get a decent torrent client setup and get all my stuff downloading on the drives and Plex managing the media.
Going back the the Pi’s i have on each TV i can install Plex Client on KODI, which will then link everything up in the house. :)
I’ve considered using Raid 1 for the 2x HDD’s however, i think Rsync will be better option, as then i can just pull 2nd drive out and take it with me, with my laptop if going away, or take one of my Raspberry Pi Media Box’s to a mates and plug it in and play films, games etc. While at the same time keeping a backup copy of all my media, appose to using Raid 1 being now allowing me to do that.
I'm having a thumbnail issues, none are showing for Movies or TV. Your help is appreciated :)

Thank you for the walk through was super helpful, got my pi 3 in the mail yesterday and I'm up and running with media copying over to 3 old usb drives now on the pi for plex media server.
is it the same process for setting it up on an old laptop? Also, will it work as a Nas for a MacBook?
How about a video on how do you update Plex Media Server on the openmediavault?
Thanks very much for this tutorial! A couple of works of caution: I couldn't get the image from OMV's website to work on my Pi using Linux tools like Etcher and DD (I used Raspbian Lite and installed the OMV stuff myself), and the issue with Plex not showing up is still present in OMV 4.1.1.

ive done this hole video and got it all setup now I just need help on getting all the decent Chanel's to stream movies could you do a video or comment would be a good help
i have followed the steps and have also seen other videos with the same steps but for some reason when i enter the web client for plex i cant run the setup page that lets me add the name and shares. it just tries to scan for a plex server.
what am i doing wrong? when i log into the plex server with the ip for the pi3 it opens as a client for my plex server on my main computer and gives me no option to change to the pi server

Vranish76 its there. more than likely 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x . you can also login to your router and look at assigned IPs. :-)

if only update require internet then how to get the IP address which we will enter on the open media control pannel
as according to me you are entering an ip address which is shown on the pi afer the completion of the installation.
